Interesting - I didn’t get that option. Wonder if that means there were more cancellations than they expected and I was too quick on the gun to cancel.

Maybe! I’ve also been a customer for 4 or 5 years. Maybe it’s a loyalty thing?

If you go through the cancellation dialogue, you'll be able to keep the current $72.99/mo rate for another six months.
I'm looking at the "yes, cancel" button but don't quite trust that it'll offer that price instead of deleting my 500+ shows on my DVR library.

I've had YTTV since it was $35/month. Each time they raise the price I look at alternatives. Unfortunately nothing is close to it in DVR or interface. While it is often aggravating when trying to switch back and forth between channels, the others I've tried are worse!
This describes my experience as well.

Once you hook people, they apparently become the frog in pot of water placed on a burner, thinking it's fine as the temp/price rises endlessly.
That frog in boiling water thins is apparently an urban legend, it apears that the frog will jump out before dying no matter how slowly you raise the temp

But it's not just $83/mo - I need internet to drive it. I'm paying $64.99 for gigabit service (Fios), so the cost for comparison's sake is closer to $150/mo.
Yes becouse gigabit internet service used to come for free with the cable plan right? Allso remember that there are probably a few years of a relatively high inflation tate between the cable price you remember and now, so adjust that old price for that before comparing

still worth it IMO, if you're a news and sports junkie.

and it's still better than cable.
This was very helpful, Thanks!!! This will give me time to set up an alternative.

I was a Cox customer, and the last month of service I had with them I paid $135 for cable + 1 HD box (rental) with no premium channels.

That was over 5 years ago. YTTV is still cheaper, and far more flexible. I don't care for the $10 a month increase, but I'm still $50 a month ahead over what I was paying.

It might depend where you live, but most companies don't have equipment anymore. They've become apps.
Xfinity still has a box, and with how bad the Xfinity app is, I do think the box may be semi-worth it. With that said the fees are bad, but when you bundle with internet which 99% of people here have anyway, the savings if you keep promotional rates are better. Right now I pay $95 for Xfinity with X-Fi complete + $83 for Youtube TV = $178. The new bundles are $155 for internet+TV on Xfinity. Even when the promo pricing expires, it becomes $183/month.

So yeah in some ways it's very similar in pricing.

It won't delete a singel bit of data, no per costumer exclusive recording exsists , youwill however loose access to the content linked from your account. This is rhetorical way they can offer 500h of "recording"/costumer whithot going broke on storage arrays and dc power, or Re you talking about storrage local to som stb or the other?

You are even better off than you think adjusted for cpi ( according to Minneapolis feds calculator) that $135 would be 254 today and thats only inflation not any real term prize hikes. Or did you remember to adjust the able pticepefore you compared it, if so congrats, to many people seam to forget that when comparing prizes from more than 2-3 years ago, that **** adds up really quickly.

Not sure how old you are, but back in the day the internet and TV channel components were one and the same, for about $130/month. A quick check with Xfinity has today's bundle for a bit less than $160/month in my region.

In 1980, our Family decided to sub to "Cable TV" for USD8/mo. . . a service that touted the principal of the idea that we could free ourselves from the relentless advertising unto which we had previously succumbed when accessing media via teh Airwaves.

All twelve channels were fantastic!

This was when MTV actually delivered Music Videos.

Long-ago, I distanced and separated myself from regular programming. The Nutrition provided has never supported my Health.

There is No-Way-In-Finland that I would ever share even 1% of my weekly income with a Service which dishes Content that provides no personal tangent 🤷‍♂️

Sorry, GooG.

Why not just go back to cable at this point?
yes Cable is cheap. 1Gbit internet is 100zł from INEA. Cable package including Canal+ is like 140 zł. The major problem tough are outdated boxes and if you have CI module there is no ability to record. Also, no catch-up service at all except TVP Go.

100%.
Cable-cutters (like me in 2016) were proud of saving a lot of money back then.
Now, most subscriptions became so incredibly expensive.

$92/month ? And this is in US Dollars ? Are they mad ? I can bring back cable and have way more stuff here in Canada, for half the price.
USA are 3rd world country, they cannot even run fiber cables to the suburbs. They cannot even broadcast major networks nationwide like in Europe. In Canada you can at least use satellite tv.

I ended my post for clarity, but obviously using cable service implies having the internet included. I can't get cable service for $83/mo, but that's not the real number to use for comparison.
Use Polsat Box Go for example.

YouTube today sent out emails to YouTube TV subscribers, letting them know about an upcoming price increase for the service. Starting on January 13, 2025, YouTube TV will cost $82.99 per month for the base plan, up from $72.99 per month.

Prices are increasing so that YouTube can "keep up with the rising cost of content" and investments in the quality of its service. YouTube says that it is committed to bringing features like unlimited DVR storage and multiview to customers.

YouTube TV subscribers can expect their YouTube TV Base Plan subscription prices to go up in their first billing cycle on or after January 13, 2025. Customers that are on a trial or a promotional price for the Base Plan will have the promotion honored with no changes.

YouTube TV is YouTube's live television subscription offering that shows live TV programming. While the base plan is now $82.99, subscribers can also add on 4K viewing for an additional $9.99, premium channels starting at $1.99 per month, NFL RedZone for $10.99 per month, Spanish TV for $14.99 per month, and Max, Paramount+, Showtime, and Starz for $29.99 per month.

At launch in 2018, YouTube TV was priced at just $35 per month, but pricing went up to $50 per month in 2019. In 2020, YouTube TV's price was raised to $64.99, and it went up to $72.99 in 2023.

Customers who want to share feedback about YouTube TV's price increase can do so on the YouTube TV support site.
