Why not just go back to cable at this point?

There are still very few (and region limited) cable options for less than 83/month, and those that do exist usually involve contract lock in and don't provide near the channel options, content quality or flexibility (or DVR) that YTTV does. Let alone nice features like "catch up through key plays", which is a time-restrained sports fan's dream...

I'm not happy about the price hike either, but let's be real here. Cord cutting isn't just about costs. It's about control and flexibility as well. I'll be re-evaluating how much we use it and if it's worth it - and it's nice having that flexibility. If you don't like the cost of YTTV, just cancel it and micro-manage how you get your content a bit more with smaller/cheaper services. 🤷‍♂️

All I watch is the news and an occasional Saturday Night Live. Hardly worth $83 a month for that. I’m going to look into sling TV or watching CNN from within the Max app.

But it's not just $83/mo - I need internet to drive it.
I can't tell if this is sarcastic or not.

You're technically right. But I'd be willing to bet most people complaining about the price hike have internet as well (and will whether they're on cable or not)... that's a given "utility" IMO. Maybe not for everybody, but for most.

Edit: I just saw you edited your comment for some context. So you ONLY pay for FiOS (or heck, internet service at all) because of YTTV? If that's the case, you're in a very small minority. Your point is legit, but you're not the common case for sure.

How did you manage the keep the $35 rate? I had the same promo and the gave me a BS story that the promo was a $15 discount from $50 to $35, and not a set $35 rate (which I know it was). Then when prices went up, so did my rate. But kept a measly discount of $15 for the run of it. Now my package is $109!!!!
I recorded the initial conversation when I signed up, where the customer service rep told me that I would be locked in at the $35 per month rate for life since I was an early adopter. When they tried to raise my price the first time, I played the recording to management, which had the employee's name an employer identification number on it and that was that. They did something to my account at that time which eliminates me from all price hikes. Always, and I mean always record every customer service related conversation you ever have when money/pricing is involved.

I ended my post for clarity, but obviously using cable service implies having the internet included. I can't get cable service for $83/mo, but that's not the real number to use for comparison.

Thanks, I did as well. Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but when I stated $83/mo, I was referring only to TV, not including internet. It's not uncommon now for cable providers to provide standalone cable or satellite TV service without requiring a TV+Internet bundle, and that's what I'm seeing right now costwise.

Such a waste. Garbage that is always on and loads of ads. People seem to love the slop though. They won’t stop raising prices as the sheeple just happily keep on paying for it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

when a service is new, the price is extremely low to bring in new subscribers. Then you come to expect it. But really the value is much more. Disney+ was the same way. YouTubeTV still a cheaper option than cable was. Especially when you can get it on several TVs and devices at once, anywhere, and unlimited DVR. For cable/Verizon that would cost like $300.

I subscribe to an HD antenna. Who knew there was better picture quality for free. Sure, you have to tune in at the right time but thats alright.
Get a Tablo! That's what I do. One antenna up in the attic connected to this device. Then I stream the OTA channels to the rest of my TVs. You can also pause, replay, and record. Depending on the model, you can watch/record two or four channels at once. It's pretty neat.

I've had YTTV since it was $35/month. Each time they raise the price I look at alternatives. Unfortunately nothing is close to it in DVR or interface. While it is often aggravating when trying to switch back and forth between channels, the others I've tried are worse!

Yeah sorry, I was just not being clear. I knew you weren't including internet. When I think of the price of cable TV, I think of the internet component being part of that. I've been cable free for so long that I didn't realize that they also offer the TV alone these days!

If you go through the cancellation dialogue, you'll be able to keep the current $72.99/mo rate for another six months.

still worth it IMO, if you're a news and sports junkie.

and it's still better than cable.
Interesting - I didn’t get that option. Wonder if that means there were more cancellations than they expected and I was too quick on the gun to cancel.
