Last time I paid for TV of any kind was about 20 years ago. I said I am never going to do that mistake again and I never did.
There are people who pay 73 PER MONTH for TV.
Then again there are people who believe the Earth is flat. Who is worse?
73...
per
month.
hahahahahahaha

Currently have Hulu Live and I hate how buggy it is. but the only thing keeping me from switching to Youtube Live TV is the ability to delete recordings from the DVR. I tried Youtube Live and the DVR was way to cluttered :(

Great, can't wait to see what my costs are going to be this fall when I switch to YTTV in order to get Sunday Ticket. Right now, with ATT/DTV, I'm paying $125 for internet, TV & they threw ST in over the season. No way I'm gonna be anywhere close to that this fall.

IIRC correctly, it will also be available as an add on to YouTube so you won't need to switch to YouTube TV.

It used to be $35/month when it launched in 2017 with around 50 channels. It's now $72.99/month with around 110 to 130 channels depending on location. On a per channel basis, the price has actually dropped but not all those channels are necessarily desirable of course.
Yea my wife and I just have Frndly for a year at the price of one month of some. Get Game Shows, Old Shows, Hallmark, Lifetime. Can just catch sports on another app if we need.

Sports and News. Mainly sports.
This is literally my use case as well. I watch the news, the NFL, college football and college basketball. I can't remember the last time I actually watched anything else that wasn't from a streaming service.

I switched to YouTube TV about 5 years ago when the content, and cost, were way less. Even with the price hike it's still about half of what I was paying for DirecTV - but I'm still paying for a bunch of junk I never watch.

I mean now it's not cheaper than cable so what's the incentive. Just easier to keep cable at this point... They really need a way for you to just choose the individual channels you want and don't want, and pay for just those. That's the service I'm after.

I bet if you posted your monthly expenses you would get a lot of people who could have fun at what you spend your time and money on!

At least you can still just click a few things and cancel with no penalties, and no equipment to return, but how long until that convenience isn't worth the prices difference anymore.

Don’t think I can blame YTTV entirely for this one. The sports networks are the driver for much higher prices. Contracts they are doing and just expecting us to pay is ridiculous. Sports industry itself is a giant money grab right now. The average consumer who just wants to watch or go to these games in person are getting squeezed hard.
I've always heard it's ESPN and other sports programming that drives the majority of these increases. It'll be interesting to see how much the NFL Sunday Ticket will eventually cost.

My favorite for sports is Fubo because I can watch all local teams (NESN for example) and all the other sports channels. But they have priced themselves as much as cable costs.

I notcied they reduced the price of YouTube Premium back to $11.99. Must have seen a drop-off after the big increase.
I guess it just affects family plans? Interesting:

I got this notice March 2nd.

I remember when my parents dumped cable in the 2000s, it was $35 / month.

With all the streaming services, cable, Apple services, music and gaming, not to mention movies and shows, people must be spending ~ $500 / month on entertainment alone.

I'm not judging, I'm just surprised! That's a solid amount that could go towards retirement.

My wife uses Netflix basic which is $15.49 / month, that's it for us.
I was looking at that because I had all of these services when they came out and thought look at how much money I am saving by getting rid of Fios TV. But having Paramount, Peacock, HBO Max, Netflix, Hulu, those add up very quickly. We have cut out a lot of those

I think technically, it could, but that isn't factoring in promos / discounts, & ultimately, clever ways people cut the cord. etc. If a person is paying for everything individually, it can add up quickly!

I have T-Mobile, so that comes with Apple TV+ & Netflix. I get YouTube TV for $32.99 (have a 50% off a year promo). It also comes with Paramount TV+ for a year. Certain Verizon plans come with Disney+, the Apple One Services.

For Hulu, I just do the Black Friday promo every year & get it for $1.99 a month for a year (They've been running this promo for years) I get Apple Music for free.

They key with alot of this is finding out how it works for the individual. There are people who subscribe to a service for a month to binge a series, or just during a specific season (sports). Then cancel.

That isn't even discussing password & account sharing.

Not everyone is paying full price for these services. Whether through work perks, carrier deals, promos, or friends / family.
Yes I still get Hulu, Disney+ through Verizon which is what we watch mostly

I pay that much because they offer the best DVR that exists. I record EVERYTHING all the time. That way when I do watch a show I skip right over the constant commercials. YTTV keeps the recordings for 9 months before retiring the oldest first. It's a sliding 9 month window of everything that aired on YTTV that I can dip into whenever I want. Compared to cable or any other streamer, this is the best way to watch.
This is also how I use YTTV. I time shift everything except sports. If I want to watch the local news I'll usually just wait a few minutes to get into it, then I can skip the commercials.

Especially when you consider that you must pay for Internet access on top of all these streaming services. At least with cable companies, you usually get a bundle price when you get both—which almost always ends up being less money per month in the end.

The problem of course is that most of these media companies are putting content on their streaming service that isn't even available on their respective cable channels. I watch several shows that used to be on broadcast channels that are now streaming only (SEAL Team, for example) so that they can include a few swear words and side-boob shots.
Yes it seems that paramount and peacock are both doing that. Having some shows that would have been on their broadcast channel but make it exclusive to the streaming

Ouch.

While YTTV is still cheaper than cable, no one, myself included, likes a price hike. For us, $73 is encroaching what we’re willing to spend on "live events" - especially when considering our other streamers and their respective price increases. We've been discussing a new streamer strategy for a while now. Might be time to actually put that plan into action.

I guess until enough wallets speak otherwise, there is zero incentive for companies to not push the boundaries of what customers will tolerate. For me, it was when iPhone hit the $1,000 mark that I really started to realize "uh-oh."

I always wanted Apple to offer their own live-TV streaming srevice, like YTTV and Hulu Live. It was rumored for awhile. The interface would probably be best-in-class. They wouldn't have been able to offer it any cheaper, though.

It all depends on someone's wants/needs as far as entertainment, news, sports, etc. content and availability.

This can be said about a lot of things e.g., someone who only uses a mobile phone for talk and text may find it lunacy for a person to pay more than $75 for a phone yet many view spending 10 times that or more as perfectly normal.

Neither is necessarily right or wrong or crazy. Again, it all depends on wants and needs.
