Last time I paid for TV of any kind was about 20 years ago. I said I am never going to do that mistake again and I never did.
There are people who pay 73 PER MONTH for TV.
Then again there are people who believe the Earth is flat. Who is worse?
73...
per
month.
hahahahahahaha
Interesting comparison.

So, please tell us what you have been watching for free for these past 20 years. Which channels/services are sustaining you? Thanks.

You are welcome.

"Cutting the cord" indeed, what happened to that revolution? I think many will be trying to "repair the cord" as fast as possible. Personally I just ditched all those services and find other things to do with my time.

When I first subscribed to YYTV it was $35 a month. It had local TV channels and a decent smattering of cable news / movie channels. Local TV is a must in my area to keep track of severe weather (tornadoes are frequent visitors). As they've added additional content the price has skyrocketed. I'm actively looking for a replacement. The price is just ridiculous. I don't need or want all the sports channels. This sucks!

Huh. On regular Youtube, everybody I see covering the Ukraine war has been demonetized. So yeah, content costs have gone up? I guess they're talking about the how much they're paying for fluff.

Having tried most of them, I still say it’s worth the price and cheaper than regular cable. It’s the best of the bunch.
This, 100 times. Had Time Warner, Comcast, DirecTV... This is still cheaper than all of them, and the user experience is leaps and bounds better, whether it's through Apple TV, tablet, or desktop. Especially the number of people who can watch from different locations. I can have four browser windows open to different NCAA games right now. DirecTV would make you sign out of an account if you wanted to watch Sunday Ticket in your living room and your bedroom.

And lowering the 4K option to 10 bucks isn't nothing. I tried it out during the NFL playoff, and it is indeed a big step up, but cancelled it after the season because it wasn't worth the 20 bucks a month for non-sports content. $10 sound more reasonable (of course, with the price increase on the basic package I'm still paying $20 more a month so...)

Also, notice that date - April 18 - just in time for the NBA playoffs. LOL!
I tried out the 4K option for the NFL playoffs and soccer... and I hafta say the difference was very noticeable for sports. I'm not a pixel-obsessed HD snob, but you could really see the difference. Wasn't worth the $20 a month, but at $10... might dip back in.

Ouch.

While YTTV is still cheaper than cable, no one, myself included, likes a price hike. For us, $73 is encroaching what we’re willing to spend on "live events" - especially when considering our other streamers and their respective price increases. We've been discussing a new streamer strategy for a while now. Might be time to actually put that plan into action.

I guess until enough wallets speak otherwise, there is zero incentive for companies to not push the boundaries of what customers will tolerate. For me, it was when iPhone hit the $1,000 mark that I really started to realize "uh-oh."
So many whine about price hikes and inflation, yet those that listen to investor calls hear time and time again CEO’s comment they haven’t seen any consumer pushback on pricing. They have the data, so stop or cut back buying especially fuel. That’s how capitalism works, especially in consumer driven economy

I didn’t even know YooToob had a TV service. Shows how much I care for this stuff. All I have is Apple Music @€109/year and Amazon Prime for €25/year. Thats it. Lifes too short to spend most of it in front of a TV, I don’t even have one.

It all depends on someone's wants/needs as far as entertainment, news, sports, etc. content and availability.

This can be said about a lot of things e.g., someone who only uses a mobile phone for talk and text may find it lunacy for a person to pay more than $75 for a phone yet many view spending 10 times that or more as perfectly normal.

Neither is necessarily right or wrong or crazy. Again, it all depends on wants and needs.

This is true!

There are people who spend large amounts of money on fine dining & Michelin star rated restaurants vs someone who cooks exclusively at home. Is the person eating out wasting money?

There are those who will happily spend over a $1000 on a new phone / smart home tech, yet will casually purchase clothes at discount / mid tier retailers & would never think of spending that amount on a Fendi accessory.

People value different things.

None of those would satisfy me (other than the NFL games). I like movies and other forms of entertainment that are basically unavailable for free. I have DirecTV, Curiosity, HBO Max, Amazon. I watch You Tube when I need specific information about something. I could never ever just sit and watch videos on You Tube simply for entertainment. Free TV is essentially nothing but commercials with largely garbage programming other than NFL.

YouTube is not the same as YouTube TV.

You can still receive free TV using an outdoor digital antenna. No need to subscribe or have internet.
If you live in Kansas with no hills or mountains in sight. In my case, I get 1/2 the local channels as my home can only "see" one of two mountains the antennas are on. How to get those live/OTA signals to 5 TV's is another headache.
