I don't subscribe to it, but anyone who does who complains but doesn't cancel is telling the truth with their wallet and lying with their words. Same goes for any product or service. I'd also point out people calling it a "rip-off" and saying "get [competing service] instead" or similar things might consider not everyone's looking for the same content/features in a this type of service. So it may indeed not be worth it to you, but for many others, it obviously is, as they have stated here.

@Victor Mortimer Since you "disagree," I'd really like to hear why. What I said is perfectly logical. YouTube TV is a non-necessity, so if someone complains, yet still subscribes to it, then obviously they think it's still worth it or else they would've cancelled it. It's as simple as that. Not sure how one could disagree with that or my other point about everyone having different preferences.

My cable bill is actually cheaper since they lower the price of the TV portion, when bundled with internet.

The one good thing is, the DVR features are included with YouTube TV, but cable companies make you pay for streaming DVR.

I’ve found Hulu Live to work much better - the YT TV app is slow and buggy for me on Apple TV. Plus, you get Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN+ included. However, there are better values out there. Spectrum has a plan where you pick the channels you want (I believe up to 20) which is about half the cost. They don’t market this plan but you can call to inquire/order. I may do this soon.
I got this from spectrum when I tried to cut the cable cord. I was going to keep their internet and use a variety of streaming services. The sticking point was the ESPN license which you can't get unless you pay for cable/streaming. As I was cancelling the CSR mentioned this a la carte package of me getting to pick 10 channels plus have locals and like 1000 other channels nobody watches. Originally, it was $25 plus the fees. it has crept up to $40 plus a $21 "Broadcast TV Surcharge" which looks like it is for the locals. So much for free locals. I'll be calling them today to beat them up on the price or get rid of it. it is worth a shot if you are considering quitting Spectrum or they are available in your area and you can't live without ESPN.

To pay $73 monthly for over 100 TV channels, one must say it’s perplexing that some have nothing better to do than sit on your butt and stare at a screen?

$73 monthly for over 100 channels? One must ask, don’t people have more to do than sit on their butt and stare at a screen? When you remove the reruns, remakes and rambling opinion shows, there can’t be much more than an hour per week of new content. I dream of Jeannie for 4,517th time is a little thin.
OMG. The ego, the arrogance, and the condescension involved in a statement like this is so sad to read, but hardly surprising in today's world. I condemn anyone who tries to impose their misguided mentation on the rest of us.

For the price of 2 months of YTTV you can buy this, pay for it just once, and use it free forever after.

Are you seriously comparing YT (or any other streaming service) with OTA as equivalents? How do people come up with this kind of nonsense?

That's really your problem. Keep paying. I am fine with you paying for it. I am also sorry you can't watch YouTube or Twitch for entertainment. Well not too sorry as it doesn't affect me, but again that's up to you. Have a fun weekend.
I'm curious. What shows do you enjoy watching on YT or this Twitch channel? And what is this Twitch? I googled it and came up with some channel for programmers. Surely this is not what you are suggesting I watch.

This is literally my use case as well. I watch the news, the NFL, college football and college basketball. I can't remember the last time I actually watched anything else that wasn't from a streaming service.

I switched to YouTube TV about 5 years ago when the content, and cost, were way less. Even with the price hike it's still about half of what I was paying for DirecTV - but I'm still paying for a bunch of junk I never watch.
I dd that but switched to Hulu Live. Costs less and includes Disney Plus with ads and ESPN+. Get more for less.

Twitch is a streaming site where people stream their own videos, gaming, chatting, comedy, whatever.
The few shows I like to watch you don't know them as they are local here, not American nor in English.
The tv series you might know and I like to watch, I buy them when they are on blu-ray or Dvd. Usually on sale. This way I can watch them whenever i want, without being tethered to a single company/streaming service, without the need to be online and without the need to keep telling the streaming service what I watch and when.

If you seriously don't know that Youtube and Twitch have entertainment videos, then you might want to have a better look.
Good luck.

Where I live, cable TV PLUS high-speed internet is around $120-130 a month, not counting payTV services. We killed off the cable because we LOATHE commercials, and use that savings to swap around among the various streaming services. Bliss.

I appreciate that some people are infected with the sports virus, or want to record many episodes of shows they’ll never get to before they die, but you’re paying for high-speed internet AND another $73 (before taxes) per month for more sports, more ads, live channels and a DVR?

If you feel it’s a good value, then it’s a good value for you, I guess. Heck, if you can get the other five people on your account to kick in for it, then I totally get it. Over here, it’s just the two of us, so we’ll just be enjoying our four premium streamers that show stuff we like for about $350 per YEAR.

Doubled the price in 6 years!, I hope your income has also doubled in that same period. Mine, not. And I will have to cancel some subscriptions, like My Apple Tv, I was waiting to see the ending of Servant this week and now, cleverly, they put Ted Lasso to convince to stay longer... so, another couple of month paying for jist 1 show.
Comparing prices over leriods of time can be trickyas you always need to inflation adjust the old price pefore you compare ( esp with inflation the way it has been the past few years) otherwise we are not comparing numbers on a level playing field. It's kind kf kate, if i remember I'll return tomthis comment tommorow and do the calc when I can be bothered to look up the relevant numbers, the qusrion is should I use Hedline cpi or core?

They're having a blast with increasing prices recently. Youtube Premium, Google Workspaces, Youtube TV....
A lot of people think that companies that offer TV services, like YouTube, Spectrum, DirecTV, etc... raise prices. They have to. Fox, ABC, CBS, etc... keep raising the prices and that's why you see some of the companies lose those channels temporarily as negotiations happen. If Fox, ABC, CBS, etc... keep raising their prices what can YouTube and others do? They can't keep eating the cost themselves. I get that price increases aren't fun for consumers, but if you ran one of those companies... you would see the why and hopefully understand.

I'm not happy about the increase but it's not that bad ($8).

I switched to YTTV last summer and it was a great move for me! Comcast is outrageous for video services (and that's without the add ons). Then you have to pay a monthly fee to rent a cable box, pay for DVR service, pay sports taxes (I don't even watch sports) and their "fees"...you are easily paying $50 extra which doesn't even include your video service!

YTTV has no tax (at least where I live), I have no rental fees, unlimited DVR, $73 is still a steal in my book, plus I get my high speed internet for free in the complex I live in. It's been 3 years since they increased the price, I'm sure it won't go up any higher for a while. I also don't pay for all these extra streaming services like a lot you all do, I pick one thing and stick with it. You all who add all these extra streaming services, on top of YTTV (just as an example), that's where you get yourself into trouble! Plus I don't have to worry about paying for yet another box in the bedroom and another dvr cost in the bedroom either, since I have Apple TV's, everything is sync'd and I can access everything in either room. It's a good service!

I do agree, as others have pointed out, that Google should include YouTube Premium for free, for YTTV customers. We all know that will never happen though. The ads on YT are getting ridiculous, having to watch 3 ads just to watch a 2 minute video...

That’s pretty depressing.

The average used to be even higher decades ago before the web, smartphones, streaming services, etc. What people watch or how they watch it may have changed but leisure time spent in front of some sort of screen is no doubt higher than ever these days.

You guys are looking at it the wrong way.You are paying 8 or 9 dollars more so that a company can maximize their profit margin. And some corporate executive can keep their high salary. You wouldn’t want them to take a pay cut would you? Or have the company take a slightly less profit than past years? When you look at it that way. You provide a much needed service for them.

I don't get it.

And by that I mean I don't understand why anybody would pay more than the one-time cost of an antenna for live TV.
What do you mean by "live TV". I have an OTA antenna. The only programming I use it for are live NFL games. Network shows are largely garbage. Movies with commercials are unacceptable. Without streaming, there would be nothing useful to watch.

As a T-mobile subscriber, I signed up the TVision LIVE back in 2020. Months later it moved to YouTube TV and there was a $10 discount, it went down to $54.99 per month. On my last credit card statement, I noticed the YTTV monthly cost raised a little bit or the discount was expired. I paused my subscription as I didn't really use the service to justify $60/month for a few channels I interested to.

One day before this price increases, I got an email from T-mobile that they will apply a $10 credit on my phone bill for 24 months. It's still too much for my cup of tea.

Last night, I signed up Hulu + Live TV plan. Since I've already paid for Disney+ (annual plan), why not just added everything there along with ESPN+. I also enrolled the offering from AMEX with $7 monthly statement credit and 6% cash back. The Hulu Live TV web UI is pretty good while I had issue with YouTube TV UI number of times. T-mobile still offers the MLB.TV package and AppleTV+ has MLS season pass, I'm all good here.

According to some stats, the average person watches 2 to 4 hours of "television" per day. This can include new/original content, re-runs, movies, news, sports, etc. $73/month amounts to around $2.40/day. $2.40 for 2 to 4 hours of viewing seems pretty cheap if the plan has a reasonable variety of content people (individual or family) want to watch. Whether streaming services and/or live TV, the "value" can depend on what type of viewing content people are interested in. Not everyone's or every family's viewing interests are going to be the same.
Great point and perspective. Thank you for changing my mind.

To be fair, they give people 6 accounts. I have no interest in live TV personally but my friend gave me one of her 6 accounts to give to my parents who dropped cable so they’re enjoying that.
and this is exactly why Netfilx brought out their new policy changes on account sharing to stop this kind of thing from happening.

And Geolocation is a sort of IP address tracking... And the local market changes when you travel; you're not watching YOUR local news while out of town, you're watching that area's local news because, again, it is tracking you via IP.
This is not accurate. Sitting at home you can use a GPS spoofer on Android and your local market can be updated to your spoofed location. IP stays the same the entire time. This also works using an Android emulator on PC or Mac.
