Having tried most of them, I still say it’s worth the price and cheaper than regular cable. It’s the best of the bunch.

It’s still worth it even at the higher price. Solid reliability for my family for over four years. Our only regret is that we did not give up cable sooner.

To be fair, they give people 6 accounts. I have no interest in live TV personally but my friend gave me one of her 6 accounts to give to my parents who dropped cable so they’re enjoying that.

I recently took a look at my parents cable TV bill and based on what I saw YouTube TV seems well priced. I didn't look any further to see what local channels they offer though. That and teaching my parents a new system could be a deal breaker.

In my area Optimum screwed their TV customers in favor of full fiber internet. Unfortunately their new full wireless boxes for TV are trash. The image quality bounces around from 480 to 720 and it looks really really bad.

Whoever designed it doesn't seem to understand how to upscale digital signals properly. Even the cable guy who installed it said people are not happy with it and some are going back to the older cable boxes that use COAX from the pole to the house.

Maybe I can convince my parents to try Youtube TV before they go back to COAX and older boxes.

Why would you pay so much for live tv if you can get any streaming service with the same content (movies, tv shows, documentaries, sports) for less? You could literally get Hulu, Disney+, HBO Max et al for far less AND you can watch everything when u want! Without commercial breaks every 2 minutes. I don’t get it

However, I have not watched live tv in years so maybe I am missing out on something great that justifies paying 70+ a month haha
My thought too. I cut the cord over 20 years ago and don't watch sports, so I am probably in a minority.

Sports. The answer is live sports. If it weren't for live sports, my parents wouldn't have it.

I look forward to the day when the economy stabilizes and we see price *decreases*! Think it will happen?

I don't like selling tubs of Miso Paste in my small grocery story for $12.25 when my margins haven't changed.

As long as YTTV keeps its famed "unlimited DVR" feature, it is what keeps me subscribed from time to time. It works well and is very stable. No missed recordings. It works perfectly.
You know what is a real unlimited DVR and even works for shows you didn't know you wanted to watch, months after they were broadcast?

Netflix
Hulu
Youtube
Disney+
...

I thought it was $10 a month. And I thought it was rediculous some people paid that. Haha. ⁉️

Damn, I'm so out of the loop.

$10 a month would be crazy, lol.

It has over 100 (cable) channels, unlimited dvr, and comes with 6 accounts...if all that was just $10 a month??!!

First increase in 3 years and the value for this is there. Given the inflation rate this is not bad.

Best of the alternatives to cable. Plus a lot of optional additions you can buy if you like. I think something like 20-25 bundles (sports/specialty channels etc)

They've lowered by $10 month the 4K content and unlimited devices for streaming. So people, even with the base price increase, will see lower overall bills if they have the 4K option.

I can only imagine that people pay this because sports is broadcast by networks in the US; that's the only value left for linear TV. In the UK, we've been paying Sky to watch Sports for decades. Otherwise it seems like strange to pay for TV (does anyone watch "normal" TV? All the shows are on Streamers anyway).

I remember when my parents dumped cable in the 2000s, it was $35 / month.

With all the streaming services, cable, Apple services, music and gaming, not to mention movies and shows, people must be spending ~ $500 / month on entertainment alone.

I'm not judging, I'm just surprised! That's a solid amount that could go towards retirement.

My wife uses Netflix basic which is $15.49 / month, that's it for us.
Jesus, netflix basic is $15.49 now? Ugh and their basic doesn’t even have 4k, or is it even less than 1080? They need a new business model. Like I pay $1 a month for Hulu from Black Friday sign up deals every year and that’s 4k

So basically you need all the other „crap“ just to watch sport? Isn’t there a sports bundle so you can just watch that?

But yeah, I guess sports explains it. I was like why would you pay 72 bucks to watch CBS or FOX

YouTube today announced that it is increasing the price of the YouTube TV service, with the cost set to go from $65 to $73 starting today. New members will need to pay $73/month for the streaming service starting now, while prices will increase for existing members on April 18.

According to YouTube, the price is increasing because "content costs have risen" and it needs to charge more to "bring you the best possible TV service."

I guess YouTube's shringing ad business and declining revenue has nothing to do with the price increase? 🤣

As others have noted, live sports is the largest reason to have such a service.

I have also noticed that channels like National Geographic do not put their latest content on Disney+ until many months after they air live and pretty much everything on the Discovery family of networks takes an extended period of time before it arrives on Discovery+ (and sometimes it just doesn't make it). So if you do not want to wait months (or forever) for some shows, having a live TV service with DVR is preferable.

You would think that a streaming DVR is just a small registry of timestamps identifying the portions of show(s) the "recording" represents. In that sense, as long as the original data remains randomly accessible, a cloud DVR should always be "unlimited" and if it is not, the provider is gouging.

They going up on the prices just like Dish and DirecTV. Time to cut the cord on streaming as well and just watch local channels for free

I think technically, it could, but that isn't factoring in promos / discounts, & ultimately, clever ways people cut the cord. etc. If a person is paying for everything individually, it can add up quickly!

I have T-Mobile, so that comes with Apple TV+ & Netflix. I get YouTube TV for $32.99 (have a 50% off a year promo). It also comes with Paramount TV+ for a year. Certain Verizon plans come with Disney+, the Apple One Services.

For Hulu, I just do the Black Friday promo every year & get it for $1.99 a month for a year (They've been running this promo for years) I get Apple Music for free.

They key with alot of this is finding out how it works for the individual. There are people who subscribe to a service for a month to binge a series, or just during a specific season (sports). Then cancel.

That isn't even discussing password & account sharing.

Not everyone is paying full price for these services. Whether through work perks, carrier deals, promos, or friends / family.
