While interesting, it’s still not worth it where I am. $72.99 CAD a month right now, for YouTube TV with 129 channels. I currently pay $64.99 CAD for 196 channels through my local Cable TV provider, which also includes everything available through YouTube TV in Canada.

Also, with my cable sub, I get access to on-demand streaming included for a lot of the channels … at least all of the main ones I’d watch if I had YouTube TV. I can also watch any of the live channels through my cable provider’s mobile streaming app.

YouTube would need to bring more to the table for me to bother switching.

To be fair, they give people 6 accounts. I have no interest in live TV personally but my friend gave me one of her 6 accounts to give to my parents who dropped cable so they’re enjoying that.
These 6 accounts are meant to be within a household, not to just give out. I'm sure they'll crack down on this like Netflix is doing now.

Which YTTV excels at.

Unlimited DVR means pretty much every show you want to watch is time shifted to your schedule and effectively ad free. It takes a little forethought to select the shows you may wish to watch in this manner, but once done, it's really nice.
If that's how you're using - building your own mini-Netflix catalog using the unlimited DVR - then most of that same content and more can be streamed elsewhere for the same cost. You can buy real ad-free access to pretty much every other major streaming platform for less than $75/month.

You scared me for a minute there, I thought this was for the ad-free subscription. I guess all 3 people paying for YouTube TV are going to be really upset.

We all wined about cable and satellite packages and welcomed streaming services. Now they are just repeating the same tactics of the past. I honestly gave up and got an OTA antenna for basic channels. Use free YT and have Netflix through my TMobile and Amazon Prime. That's enough.

It’s fun until you realize it’s only 3 concurrent streams … (and Google says got y’a ) during the Super Bowl or Oscars

YouTube today announced that it is increasing the price of the YouTube TV service, with the cost set to go from $65 to $73 starting today. New members will need to pay $73/month for the streaming service starting now, while prices will increase for existing members on April 18.

According to YouTube, the price is increasing because "content costs have risen" and it needs to charge more to "bring you the best possible TV service."

With the price change, YouTube is also dropping the cost of the 4K content add-on. While it used to cost $19.99 per month, it is now $9.99 per month, so those who were subscribed to YouTube TV with the 4K add-on will actually see a small price decrease. YouTube TV with 4K will cost $83 instead of $85.

YouTube TV is a live TV service that has been around since 2017. When it first launched, YouTube TV was priced at $35, so costs have more than doubled over the last six years. YouTube TV allows up to six people in the same household to use the service, and it includes unlimited cloud DVR storage.

There are more than 100 channels available, with add-on subscriptions for premium networks like HBO Max and STARZ.

Just cancelled mine …. Personally I just don’t need 100 channels at ~ $.73 a pop/month

Loved it when it made sense (less $, less channels)

We literally went back to 2012 :(

I convinced my parents to get YouTubeTV when they moved houses because they value traditional TV. Even at $73 per month they’re still saving so much compared to their traditional “cable” bill (which would mysteriously go up and up though the package stayed the same).

But it is sad when you consider YouTubeTV was, originally, $55 (correct me if I’m wrong on that). Every price increase makes you have just a bit more pause when you ask yourself, “Is this worth it?”

haha. I guess even the price of 💩 finally had to go up! As usual, my policy is to let it lay and do not disturb.

Outside of live sports - I don't understand the cable-like "live tv" draw - every show is streaming, I don't need to pay $73 a month to watch basically 8 minutes of commercials per half hour - must be an old person thing that people like flipping through content you're not going to watch to catch a property brothers marathon on HGTV... such a weird consumption model people cling to in 2023

Between no YouTube commercials with brave, plus having Amazon prime and also having kodi loaded on my TV, I can’t picture a moment I’d even debate paying YouTube $1, plus I don’t want to encourage their censorship nonsense anymore than I already do with my non logged in (don’t even have a account) clicks

Plus I don’t watch sports ball, and I really don’t bother watching the BS on any of the “news” shows

Why would you pay so much for live tv if you can get any streaming service with the same content (movies, tv shows, documentaries, sports) for less? You could literally get Hulu, Disney+, HBO Max et al for far less AND you can watch everything when u want! Without commercial breaks every 2 minutes. I don’t get it

However, I have not watched live tv in years so maybe I am missing out on something great that justifies paying 70+ a month haha
Live sports, plain and simple. And Hulu's interface sucks.

...It is going to get to the point where, ironically, cable is going to be the cheaper option...
Especially when you consider that you must pay for Internet access on top of all these streaming services. At least with cable companies, you usually get a bundle price when you get both—which almost always ends up being less money per month in the end.

The problem of course is that most of these media companies are putting content on their streaming service that isn't even available on their respective cable channels. I watch several shows that used to be on broadcast channels that are now streaming only (SEAL Team, for example) so that they can include a few swear words and side-boob shots.

That's true. However, as of now, people can still use them outside of the household. I know someone who has YTTB & one of their accounts is in Fl. Granted, the out of state account has to "check in with the Home network) every couple of months, but beyond that. It still works!

No doubt. I'm pretty sure people can still use Netflix as well — at least I'm pretty sure mine is still being used by some people)))

We have YTTV and have had Google internet for a long time as we are in KC area where they started the fiber build out. It has been a solid service and we switched to YTTV about a year back, should have done it earlier.

I am NOT a sports guy so I would love a NO SPORTS tier so I could avoid paying for all that stuff I never watch. Ala Carte has been a pipe dream for a long time but probably will never happen. Each channel needs a piece of the pie from the sports channel money.
