I miss pre-Google YouTube. A lot.
Standalone YouTube existed for slightly over a year before it was acquired by Google and back then it was way worse. How can you miss something that only existed for that amount of time and that Google has owned since November 2006? YT has massively improved since then. Sure, YT nowadays has made some dumbfounded decisions (e.g. locking background play / picture in picture behind a paywall), but you can't argue that YouTube isn't still better than it was back in 2006.

Android version has pip, system dark mode, and 1440p support. Why not iOS?
iOS doesn’t have 1440p support?

Does the one on your Apple TV show commercials? I have the ATV HD...shows ads. My brother has ATV 4K..no ads. Whats your experience?
I'm using YouTube Premium these days but before subscribing I did see ads before some videos.

First I would like to know why major players (snapchat, fb, google, uber...) are updating their app every week.
Are they really fixing bugs? I don’t think so. Sometimes it brings new features (without telling you what prior update and you can’t downgrade) but I suspect there is something else

This. As a premium subscriber, It's annoying that Google is so bitter at Apple's features that they are restricting their own paying customers.
What? Paid customers can’t pip in the app? What’s the point then, playing audio while phone is locked? Cus there are free app for that

Like what?

I hate the fact small developers behave professionally writing a detailed changelog regarding the update, while bigs write only “bug fixes, general performance improvements” and far-from-being-professional stupid things like “drank way too much coffe”. There’s no way to know if there are new features and i’ll not make researches because they are lazy to write a changelog.

Google lawyers: Well, we got the big earner out there. Now let's see how much privacy disclosure obfuscation we can get away with on the rest?

I'm honestly alright with this. The constant weekly updates across a multitude of apps is annoying enough, but on YouTube I found them worse. One week comments are here, another they're somewhere else. The UI tweaks have made the app atrocious for my eyes. I think it's a main reason I've deviated from actually watching vids as opposed to listening to content in the background at 1.5x.

I doubt they are scared of the new privacy policy, everyone knows what Google was doing all along. See they released it now, nobody cares. My only guess is that they didn't want to be featured next to FB under the spotlight.

Anyway, most of these releases are meaningless forever going "bug fixes+improvements" that I never noticed a difference. Waste of bandwidth and energy.

So the update has removed the auto dark mode switch for me and made it manual again.

What clowns are working in youtube?

Really don't understand why Google continues to put the YouTube iOS out without support for PiP on iPhones. Makes no sense other than Google being a bunch of arses.

Is there actually one Google app which doesn’t suck?
Google Calendar. It works well for me. The widget on my iPad is my lifeline in medical school to keep up with my schedule. I've honestly never used a calendar app prior to medical school so have no experience with others.

PiP would technically counteract one of the YT premium “benefits” (background playback), they would never unblock it.
Stupid benefit that’s more annoying than helpful. I want PiP. Not useless media player controls that stay on my lock screen when I’ve long stopped the video, only to have the video continue in my car when I wanted Apple Music.

I've started my Youtube Premium trial last week. If by the end of the month / trial, i still don't have a PiP mode in the APP, i will not continue the subscription. It's simple for me.

Don't mind paying for removing the ads and the other less relevant features, but the ARTIFICIAL / FORCED limiting of the features between Android and iOS is plainly google being douchebags. I will vote with my wallet ... PiP or no subscription from me.

And i want it on the APP .... i know safari is supporting it right now.
