With the launch of the Vision Pro just days away, popular video collaboration service Zoom announced a Vision Pro app that is set to come out on Friday, February 2. The Zoom app for Vision Pro is meant to blur the lines of in-person and remote meetings to help teams feel more connected with one another.

The Zoom app will work on the "infinite canvas" of the Vision Pro, with the scalable interface able to be viewed in the real world or with a virtual backdrop. The app supports Personas, which are a spatial representation of the user in Vision Pro.

A Persona is created by using the cameras on the Vision Pro, and it serves as a stand-in for the user during video calls. Personas look like the user, and are able to gesture, speak, and react based on the facial and hand movements of the Vision Pro wearer.

With these features, Zoom users can expect to "feel like they are in the same room as their colleagues and customers" without the need for anything but the Vision Pro.

Later in the spring, the Zoom app will add support for sharing 3D files, with the files able to "come to life" on the Vision Pro. Team Chat integration is coming as well, and users will eventually be able to pin up to five Zoom participants anywhere in their physical space.

Pinned users will have their backgrounds removed, adding to the feel of multiple people being in the same room.

Zoom will be available from the Vision Pro App Store.

My feelings towards the Vision Pro are… love/hate. I love the concept of the interface, and the different screens on Augmented Reality. I hate the fact of having two bright screens so close of my eyes. And the price. And the battery life. But, as a UI concept, it amazes me.

As for the Zoom App, it’s great to have support of a conference app outside FaceTime. And it would be great to have many office/productivity apps, aside from the typical entertainment apps.

I would hope that Apple has the fursona avatar functionality in the core APIs so each developer doesn’t have to rebuild it. If that’s so, this Zoom announcement feels hollow.

The cool sounding differentiation for Zoom sounds like the sharing of 3D files in session

Some interesting things can be done with VR meetings if everyone is in VR, but if only one person is, it's just standard teleconferencing with one participant having an uncanny valley look.

We use MS teams mostly for team meetings and for Zoom, its mostly a webinar attendance setting for 30 plus users and most users do not have an profile image or have their camers on when attending either except the facilitator. So it would be awkward to be wearing the headset if not everyone is on camera except you :p. Is MS teams getting an app down the road?

No. Because it's just a Zoom Screenshot. Until the app store is up, I doubt they'll actually have vision of people using it.
the screen shot is of a meeting in progress. The point of the PR is that the Zoom app supports personas.

So unless someone was running zoom on a laptop with their video enabled, you wouldn’t SEE them wearing a VP.

(That said, I do admit that the hall-of-mirrors could be tremendous fun to play with)

This is actually a downside of the Vision Pro.

If I haven't seen someone in a while and vice versa, isn't one of the points of a Zoom call to see what that person looks like at the moment and not what the person looked like months ago, a year ago, or whenever the "Persona" was created? Or are people going to update their "Persona" every time their appearance changes (i.e. you grow or shave off a beard; you grow out your hair or cut off your long hair; etc.)? You can't even show off a new tattoo.

Think back to how people were using Zoom to keep in touch with friends and family members during the pandemic. I guess people will have to fall back to using FaceTime on their iPhone/iPad/Mac.

I agree, but they haven't shown that in the screen shot. I never said they would show people using it. Like I said, I guess we will see when the App Store is available? I'm not sure if it's up in the US yet, as I am in Australia. Is it up on the 2nd Feb or up now?
