Does anyone else see the irony of a Apple pushing enterprise hardware/software alternatives to in-office participation as a solid use case while they are forcing their own employees to spend at least 3 days a week in the office or risk termination? Or trying to appeal to people who enjoy all the flexibility of working remotely by convincing them to wear a tethered headset while they work?

Apple further cracks down on remote work

Kind of curious how "3D" the person on the camera will look on the actual headset. A lot of these screenshots just make it seem like it's a 2D overlay within a 3D space, which kind of defeats the purpose of wearing a VR headset at all. You want to feel like the person is there with you, not like you're looking at a screen within a screen. It'd make more sense if it were a normal pair of glasses that you can wear anywhere all day and were strictly AR focused.

It is interesting what they're doing with personas though. Seems like they're closer to solving the issue of being able to see facial expressions, or just straight up showing ourselves in VR.

Zoom with goggles. Imagine, how the see you. Or how you see them, if they ware the same apple VR 🤣
🤣🤣🤣

Apple only promises 2 hours of general use with the battery. And 2D video at that. If you are driving a presentation in Zoom (running a PowerPoint deck that has embedded animations and video files), that will probably drain the battery even faster. Since the batteries are not swappable without turning off the AVR completely first, that means committing to having the power cord attached to your head the entire time just to join a virtual meeting. Hmm.

This is actually a downside of the Vision Pro.

If I haven't seen someone in a while and vice versa, isn't one of the points of a Zoom call to see what that person looks like at the moment and not what the person looked like months ago, a year ago, or whenever the "Persona" was created? Or are people going to update their "Persona" every time their appearance changes (i.e. you grow or shave off a beard; you grow out your hair or cut off your long hair; etc.)? You can't even show off a new tattoo.

Think back to how people were using Zoom to keep in touch with friends and family members during the pandemic. I guess people will have to fall back to using FaceTime on their iPhone/iPad/Mac.
If one doesn't want to appear on screen when communicating in real time with someone or a group of people... isn't that what texting or facetime audio/phone calls are for? Is anyone actually going to all this trouble and expense just so that they can join a Zoom call off camera?

Wow, there are a LOT of people in this thread who don't understand the VisionOS platform at all, or the purpose for this app.

The point of spatial computing is that you can attend a Zoom meeting, be on slack, watch a movie/show (maybe multiple from different platforms), answer personal emails and messages, play a game and a plethora of other things all within one virtual environment. You can do all this whether you're sitting in your office chair, couch, favorite chair or while making breakfast in your kitchen.

This is showing what a Zoom UI will look like on the Vision Pro. It looks pretty nice and clean to me and I look forward to testing it with and without my creepy Persona video on.

Do you type a lot on Zoom calls?
Depends on the call. For example, if it's just a meeting, people are often typing into the chat with something they're discussing, such as URL. If it's a webinar, the mod and/or presenters usually are responding to attendee questions in the chat the whole time. Some questions are best answered that way than verbally by the presenter.

The odds to ever be in a meeting where everyone / anyone has a VP is basically down to 0%. The likelihood that everyone even speaks the same native tongue is down to 0 at my company. Also, people still use Zoom? I thought this crashed after the lockdowns. Only Teams here.

Regarding interactive 3D presentations, which you can „take apart“. Who has time for THAT? Making PowerPoint slides is annoying enough haha

What is going on with MR by the way. I scroll through the comments and see MY POST as a reply by another person??? I was like „wait“ … didn’t I just say the exact same thing?

Your company might have converted over to using Teams as they are a strong second contender but Zoom still has about 60% marketshare in 2023.

This makes me wonder if it is possible for third parties to sell battery packs with larger capacities. Sure, they will be bigger and bulkier, but would let you get around the need for swapping.

If they can’t make a bigger replacement battery, they could at least make a battery extender case/attachment for the battery.

Do you type a lot on Zoom calls?
YES - when it's a productive meeting. Usually in Evernote.
I sure wish Siri was better at recording / generating accurate transcripts.

I don't trust otter or any of the available LLMs to keep those exchanges private.

Slow start? The product is not even out yet. What would be a fast start?
Fair point. The original iPhone didn’t launch with much but I’m assuming developers have a much more robust pipeline these days. I think the coolest thing that was demod thus far was the NBA app where you could see a Birds Eye view of court stuff along with the game.
Yeah. I remember the good old days when it was people excited about technology. Now it’s cool to be a dismissive cynic without adding anything to the discussion. Cheap shots for the likes I guess.

Back on topic though, I can understand people’s dread about Zoom as a killer app.
ahah it wasn’t a cheap shot for likes I’m literally just criticizing Zooms foray into the VR space. I think the app is underwhelming and doesn’t provide much benefit in VR from the desktop version. Y’all are reading a little bit too much into my comment sheeesh

You can plug a power supply in while you are using it. You are not restricted to just the battery charge.

I know but I was responding to someone who said they wonder if third parties will be able to make larger batteries that can replace the Apple battery.

A Persona is created by using the cameras on the Vision Pro, and it serves as a stand-in for the user during video calls. Personas look like the user, and are able to gesture, speak, and react based on the facial and hand movements of the Vision Pro wearer.
I cannot believe how many people are falling for this pure tripe. It sounds infinitely pointless.

Imagine having the luxury and convenience of working remotely or from home. Instead of getting dressed and simply turning on the camera so that people can see you gesture, speak and react… you're going to wear a $4000 headset for the entire meeting that will mess up your hair and leave a red mark on your face.

What does infinitely pointless mean? Do you just mean pointless? But it does serve a point. It is exactly as they said. It stands as a representative of the person and shows reactions as they are speaking.

It may not be very good, but it certainly is not pointless.

Why have a zoom call at all with an AVP?
