I don't want this **** on my phone, Point Blank Period!!!
I honestly believe that most android users aren't going to want it either.
The last thing I want is Facebook injecting itself all over my phone's UI. What a load of crap.
Seriously?! Boy, maybe my iPhone 5 is defective.
Or, maybe you are completely and utterly confused....
There is NO iOS Flashlight app which works in the background. NONE (unless you jailbreak, which I don't want to do on my iPhone, as I have to be OS current).
This is fact.
Apple restrictions dictate Facebook can't.
I guess it's just a matter of semantics. I'm not saying which one is better (get whats best for you) but to me, it looks like you lose most of the functionality without Google apps (i.e. locked to Google).
I think you missed the irony here: Zuckerberg is trying to sell Android stuff while it appears he refuses to use Android himself.
It's funny because they actually had to put a sizable effort into getting their devs to use Android devices. I say this and I don't even have an iPhone but I do find that irony funny.![]()
says the man with a jailbroken iPhone LOL
For many people a jailbroken iOS device still offers a better experience than Android. As long as you're sensible (as in, not installing tons of random tweaks so that the device becomes slow and glitchy) a jailbroken iPhone offers openness AND the best experience, when it comes to the software side of things.
Another good example is VPN.. to turn it on -> Settings -> General -> VPN -> On
I'm not so sure about that. When you jailbreak, it installs some random stuff like MySQL. It might just be me, but I feel like it's a bit slower once you jailbreak.
But you're missing the point, being open has nothing to do with google apps. It's the fact you have alternatives that could get full access on android which you can't get the same full access on IOS
If Zuckerberg can offer a newspaper style FaceBook App that sits on the screen like the HTC One, then I think he will have a hit.
The only problem I foresee is the compatibility with the multitude of Android base devices and their various hardware such as screen sizes etc.
Obviously this idea would be brilliant on a Tablet type device.
If customers want a more open phone they'll start buying Android.. and Apple will respond by "opening up" iOS more - i.e., exposing more API and relaxing its AppStore rules.
No surprise that Zuckerberg is talking up Android really given today's announcement...
Apple could improve the UI, especially Settings. For example, in Safari settings, why is the option "Private Browsing" there? It takes multiple key presses, surely this is better placed within Safari.app itself?
Another good example is VPN.. to turn it on -> Settings -> General -> VPN -> On
How many billion is he worth?
I'm not disagreeing I'm just saying there are other optiobs(although most aren't as good as google apps)Take all the Google apps off your Android and tell me how good the experience is. Technically you are correct but, in actuality, nobody would want to run their Android device without the Google apps. It's a matter of semantics but I don't consider Android open since you are dependent on Google.

I don't see how it could ever be a hit since it will have advertising and will disable widgets
