I don't want this **** on my phone, Point Blank Period!!!

I honestly believe that most android users aren't going to want it either.

I don't think anyone is going to want this. Also, the Android users I know don't use Facebook outside of having an account that stays idle.

Seriously?! Boy, maybe my iPhone 5 is defective.

Or, maybe you are completely and utterly confused....

There is NO iOS Flashlight app which works in the background. NONE (unless you jailbreak, which I don't want to do on my iPhone, as I have to be OS current).

This is fact.

Oh silly boy. The PHONE CALL would be running in the background, while you open the flashlight app. You've got it twisted around. You do realize you can press the home button while on a phone call right? Place your phone call, press home button, open flashlight app.....PRESTO, your flashlight is on while on a phone call.

And I just tested this on MY iPhone 5, so I can 100% confirm that you are completely wrong.

Either you don't actually have an iPhone, or you sure as hell don't know how to use it.

I use Facebook from time to time but this just looks horrible.

I guess it really is just aimed at the teenage market(which is probably the place they would get the best sales from)

1/ Given Facebooks constantly changing rules I'm not likely to trust that they're not doing more than they're telling me.

2/ You have to admire (or be really scared by) a guy that maintains a bad looking college haircut, unchanged after many years, especially when he has a bit of money.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Facebook's marketing plan and how they progress.

Interesting times.

Apple restrictions dictate Facebook can't.

I think you missed the irony here: Zuckerberg is trying to sell Android stuff while it appears he refuses to use Android himself.

It's funny because they actually had to put a sizable effort into getting their devs to use Android devices. I say this and I don't even have an iPhone but I do find that irony funny. :D

I guess it's just a matter of semantics. I'm not saying which one is better (get whats best for you) but to me, it looks like you lose most of the functionality without Google apps (i.e. locked to Google).

But you're missing the point, being open has nothing to do with google apps. It's the fact you have alternatives that could get full access on android which you can't get the same full access on IOS

Irony is how awful their app is on both android and IOS when even their devs use IOS so heavily

says the man with a jailbroken iPhone LOL

For many people a jailbroken iOS device still offers a better experience than Android. As long as you're sensible (as in, not installing tons of random tweaks so that the device becomes slow and glitchy) a jailbroken iPhone offers openness AND the best experience, when it comes to the software side of things.

I'm not so sure about that. When you jailbreak, it installs some random stuff like MySQL. It might just be me, but I feel like it's a bit slower once you jailbreak.

Another good example is VPN.. to turn it on -> Settings -> General -> VPN -> On

The whole "general" section is messed up. It could use some re-organization.

It wasn't exactly a fool-proof test, but me and my friend who has the same model iPhone as me (except his isn't jailbroken) did some speed tests and we failed to find any difference with the speed.

If Zuckerberg can offer a newspaper style FaceBook App that sits on the screen like the HTC One, then I think he will have a hit.

The only problem I foresee is the compatibility with the multitude of Android base devices and their various hardware such as screen sizes etc.

Obviously this idea would be brilliant on a Tablet type device.

Take all the Google apps off your Android and tell me how good the experience is. Technically you are correct but, in actuality, nobody would want to run their Android device without the Google apps. It's a matter of semantics but I don't consider Android open since you are dependent on Google.

I don't see how it could ever be a hit since it will have advertising and will disable widgets

I don't get it. I don't use my iPhone for FB. It's a multi-purpose phone and I'm pretty much satisfied with what I have.

FB does not rule my world!

Zuckerberg: Android's Openness Offers Opportunity for 'Way Better' Experience...

The last thing I want is more Facebook on any phone ios or android. I want the next pile of crap social network to come along already just so I don't have to hear about Facebook. So hurry up and come on wiggle,my universe , meworld, or whatever your going to be called so I can hate you in 4 years too.

If customers want a more open phone they'll start buying Android.. and Apple will respond by "opening up" iOS more - i.e., exposing more API and relaxing its AppStore rules.

No surprise that Zuckerberg is talking up Android really given today's announcement...

Apple could improve the UI, especially Settings. For example, in Safari settings, why is the option "Private Browsing" there? It takes multiple key presses, surely this is better placed within Safari.app itself?

Another good example is VPN.. to turn it on -> Settings -> General -> VPN -> On

Not sure what version of iOS you're using, but in 6.1.3, to turn on VPN, just click Settings. It's the fourth thing down the screen, under Bluetooth.

Other than making a stand-alone app, can't imagine how they can make it any easier.

I'm sure it's way better for Facebook to start jamming more ads at people.

Am I the only person who hasn't exactly been bothered by the 5 seconds it takes me to unlock my phone and open the Facebook app? If it were that important, I would put it on the dock. I don't have it on my dock. I don't know anybody with it on the dock.

If something important enough happens, I get a notification. I'm fine with the level of integration as it is. I have a bazillion other things to do on my phone aside from Facebook. I really don't need what I'm guessing is the nuisance of Farmville on Facebook mobile.

hidden agenda...

you know the real reason they went with the green garbage can over iOS is purely because they are in it for the profits of advertising and tracking users. There is no other reason for not bringing it to iOS in the first place but they have their own agenda to follow.

The public only needs to know how good and handy a facebook phone is; behind the scenes, they can implement any tracking, advertising schemes they wish to in the android OS.

It's purely to make money.

Facebook wins this round. After all, I only care what my friends and family are doing and saying. I want to have a dialogue with all of them while sharing / receiving things and experiences. That's all a phone is for, this just evolves it and makes that experience simpler.

I love my iPhone beyond measure, but this makes iOS seem painfully long in the tooth. Apple has never understood social.

How many billion is he worth?

Who gives a sh i t. The success of a company is not based on how much the CEO is worth. I don't even think much. He landed facebook by accident and so far not a single decision he has made gives facebook revenue. User base , yeah. Advertising, definitely, but none of that was his idea. He IPO'd and promised investors tons of money. How did that go?

So no, success isn't how much someone is worth. And quite honestly, if he were to leave facebook, I don't think any company would really want him. Maybe myspace

I'm not disagreeing I'm just saying there are other optiobs(although most aren't as good as google apps)
