wow.. this IS good..

How can it be better than an iPhone ?

the iPhone does soo much more...

Good for social networking, but if you wanna play a game, you'll need to carry two devices round with you....

The only "better" part about it i can see is the fact its open source.. :), and if you wanna stay open source, get an Android with a facebook app.

Funny, I thought FB and Apple had a strong relationship. Oh well, Facebook stocks didn't drop for no reason :p

The real tragedy is not the Android phones, it is the insanity of FaceBook. Who would want to be involved in a mess that is either ads, or people trying to impress you by posting only the most appealing select bits of their lives?

A giant waste of time.

That said, I do enjoy watching my Android colleagues constantly looking for the nearest outlet to keep their battery hungry devices topped off.

This has the potential of creating substantial change. One that creates even more demand for Android at the ideal time. All eyes are on the plethora of new Android phones that will be rolling out over the next few weeks, well ahead of Apple.

With at least four or five top of the line current Androids about to have their prices slashed lower than ever, the barrier to entry has just been erased.

How Apple chooses to react to this will be quite fascinating. It will certainly reveal their level of confidence, or how well they can hide their fear.

Even if only 20% of iPhone using Moms switch & convince even some of their friends & family to as well, there will be quite a shift in market share.

Facebook wins, the carriers wins, and Apple may be looking dazed & confused.

Good, please don't bring this garbage to the iPhone. Facebook is a terrible platform and has strayed far away from its original purpose. Enjoy your "openness" of tracking and ad placement.

Unfortunately that's not true.

My iPhone 5 is a terrific phone, yet my Note II, or Nexus 4 smartphones can run circles around it.

I want nothing more than to see Apple build a relavent smartphone with a current size display like top of the line Androids, but it's not looking good.

As a long time Apple advocate I know what they're capable of, yet they've been coasting for nearly two years now.

The fact is Android versions 4.1 & 4.2 are incredibly advanced, Both have eliminated the issues of earlier versions. Without even rooting, there's so much that one can do with these, it makes Apple look line they've been sleeping.

Having the ability I and many others do, to use both concurrently. A side by side comparison leaves Apple looking awfully conservative.

I don't get it. I don't use my iPhone for FB. It's a multi-purpose phone and I'm pretty much satisfied with what I have.

FB does not rule my world!

Lol this guys is pissed about something he wont even have to deal with it :D mate this app/launcher is for android, nothing to do with iOS.

I can't see why anyone wants this on their lock screen, my lockscreen and my app launcher are all personal to me on my iphone, I have facebook stored away in my social app for when I feel like interacting with others. I don't really need to know what my friends are doing 24/7.

I think people are misunderstanding this relationship between Facebook and Android.

Facebook does not love Android nor Google. They are not 'working with' Android and ignoring iOS. They are exploiting Android for their benefit. Google would not like this but there's nothing they can feasibly do. If Facebook could do the same on iOS they would.

What do you like so much about it?

Of course Facebook doesn't collect your personal information! They just, um, keep it for you. In case you, um, lose it.

And yes! It's a matter of personal preference when choosing a phone. Some people prefer inferior phones like Android, so please let's respect that.

Oh silly boy. The PHONE CALL would be running in the background, while you open the flashlight app. You've got it twisted around. You do realize you can press the home button while on a phone call right? Place your phone call, press home button, open flashlight app.....PRESTO, your flashlight is on while on a phone call.

And I just tested this on MY iPhone 5, so I can 100% confirm that you are completely wrong.

Either you don't actually have an iPhone, or you sure as hell don't know how to use it.

Some here are so drunk with love....

Actually, the way it works on the iPhone is:

1. You run in the dark, with the flashlight on.

2. Your phone rings.

3. Your flashlight goes off as soon as the phone rings, plunging you into darkness.

4. You screech to a halt, so you don't trip and kill yourself in the dark.

5. You answer your call.

6. You tell the caller to hold on for a minute, because you are in total darkness.

7. You press the Home button.

8. You scroll through your screens of icons, in the dark, looking for the Flashlight app.

9. You turn on the Flashlight.

10. You talk.

11. When you want to hang up, you press the Home button.

12. The Flashlight goes off, plunging you into darkness.

13. You click on the Phone app and hang up, in the dark.

14. You scroll through your screens of icons for the Flashlight app, in the dark.

15. You turn on your Flashlight and continue running.

It's pretty much the same if you want to make an outgoing call.

And it's pretty much the same if you want to change a song or a podcast.

Oh, and if you want to text, or do anything with a another app, you also have to do it in the dark.

And that's why I take my old Galaxy Nexus when I go running, and leave my iPhone at home.

Silly boy, indeed....

I feel for you man, your life seems like a mushroom, kept in the dark and fed bull ****. ;)

What does everyone think Home means for FB's future - if you held shares would you be happier now?

When you quote Zuckerberg, I hardly think that he used air quotes on way better, so why should you? You may have other opinions, but that's what Zuckerberg said.

Your Nexus 7 is made by ASUS and that is a pure Google OS. The Nexus 10 is made my Samsung and is a pure OS. This may change in the future but for now it's just not right.

I know who the hardware is made by. Why exactly would that be a problem with fragmentation when the hardware is made to Google's specs? The key part of the Nexus line is that the OS is stock android, and has a much better support/update cycle on the OS than 3rd partys.

As it stands, I'd hope/guess that the new Nexus line rumoured for later this year, will be by Google themselves under the Motorola umbrella. It'll essentially position Google as a complete hardware/software house like Apple, but with a hell of a lot more services, and better experience/skill in online services. (No, I'm not joking).

The end game is that Android will be sheared of its UI entirely and used only as a collection of APIs. Samsung's fork of Android will feature Samsung's own GUI, its own profit layer, and will not natively connect to Google Play or any other Google service. It will become the de facto Android standard due to Samsung's sheer market share, and the "Galaxy" brand will replace both "Google" and "Android."

And if, for some reason, Samsung decides that Android won't fit into their future plans (due to continuing patent-violation lawsuits around the world), there's always Tizen. Samsung will release Tizen-based devices later this year. They could even swap out the remaining Android API and kernel from "Galaxy OS," or whatever they call their Android fork, and replace it with Tizen under the covers. Same GUI that Samsung's customers are used to. Different OS under the GUI layer.

As I recall, that (ditching the UI and using just the API) has been possible since Android's launch. There is zero benefit to doing that though when you can just customise the existing UI, and remain compatible with most if not all existing 700,000 apps. Would be pretty silly to remove this support, and it'd be a massive overhead to 'emulate' the android UI just to run 'native' apps in a custom UI.

Samsung and co are laughing right now as they dont have to develop or maintain the OS, it's done for them, for free. They just have to keep paying their GAPPS fee and their profits will keep rising. I just dont see them moving away from Android for a long time yet. They have no real ecosystem at all.

isn't it weird that a big player would say such things to stir up the nest. He wants FB to be on both so it will gain more profits right? He doesn't belong to Apple or Android right? Yet he states which one has the better experience like he is siding. He might as well say which one of his children he likes more lol. To say one is better than another when you need both is possibly shooting himself in the foot. He gains nothing from that statement either. What a stupid thing for a CEO to say..

how about doing your homework, first?

1) implement memory management so facebook iOS app doesn't get closed / crash? (i assume you are ignoring the iOS memory warnings, maybe?)
2) implement proper autorotation. - doesn't work on iOS 6 at least.

both features would definately improve the user experience on iOS.
