Why are we all still forced to take part in this charade where Mark Zuckerberg gets to pretend to be anything but a mindless data-hoarder who will stop at nothing to probe & profit off of the personal lives of as many people on this planet as humanly possible?

The jig has been up for so long, its hilarious people still entertain this man's facile, empty words in 2022. Just say it as it is man.

I think there’s some truth to Zucks statement - I’ve always felt that people care so little about VR, that the headsets will basically have to be given away. Or, Perhaps just a monthly plan, like a phone service. I think the masses willl struggle to bite until it’s just an included free accessory with some other service you’re into.

Yeah, which means that meta have an interest in making as much money from your data and ads as possible.

I'd rather pay more for hardware from someone like apple, who I think are far more trustworthy with your data, than meta, who anyone with a brain doesn't trust these days.

I know some really dislike Apple, but the hate for Facebook/Meta is much stronger. I saw this poll and you can see the dislike of Facebook. So Mark can sell it at $1500, if the Apple one costs $4000 I will either buy the Apple one or do without, I'm not supporting Facebook/Meta.

Facebook has a better chance with the metaverse than Apple. A foothold in social networks is much better than in gaming when trying to dominate VR or the metaverse. Besides, there is hardly any AR/VR game on Apple Arcade.

Everything else aside, strategy-wise, Meta is heads and shoulders above Apple. Tim Cook made a fatal mistake in not trying to expand Game Center or Messages into some type of social network. They also wasted a ton of resources on Apple Car with nary a thing to show for. If Apple Car doesn't work out for Apple, they may go the way of Microsoft in the very near future (which isn't all that bad).

Who can be benefitted by using AR/VR headset. My son is using it for playing games. Other than that, how it gonna change our way of living? Some say that you can participate in meetings with colleagues and clients without being there in person. Are we all gonna look like people at Axiom in future? (Wall-E)

Zuck: Apple maximizes profit
Meta: Triples the cost of their VR headset 'to get people into the metaverse'

You can't argue that they are using next-generation hardware on all aspects of the headset. So the price hike is hardly a surprise.

So, basically, he's basically saying Apple is basically doing their business wrong. Hmmkay.

It's true. It's why Apple lost in the TV streaming stick market and in the smart speakers market. Other companies were willing to sell at break even or low margins or even at a loss in order to make money through other ways.

It'll be tough for Apple to win in the VR market unless its devices are significantly superior.
Based on rumors Apple's headset is currently shaping to be the highest tech one. With the best displays and sensors. Not to mention - this is Apple. It will be expensive at first, but Apple will eventually become leader in AR/VR due to their ecosystem and the many developers that will develop apps for their store.

Apple also was late to the party but the AirTags are currently the most popular tracking devices.

Facebook got one thing right on their own or at least successful, that was Facebook itself.

All the rest has been riding on purchasing the ascending trend, they did it with Instagram, and they did it with WhatsApp.

They failed with Snapchat (which nowadays looks itself not well) and TikTok.

In the end they are just throwing money around trying to find the next hit. And they look somewhat clueless.

seems a bit ridiculous and I think this will be a failure for Meta.

Only because the quest 2 is hugely successful, and rightly so given its function and price point... £250.

To introduce a pro version and make it SIX times more expensive will not encourage upgrades.... but of course maybe this is aimed at a totally different market... it certainly doesnt seem at all aimed at gamers like the quest 2 is... so I wonder how many of these they will be able to sell... even at a "loss"

Not shocking. At least the other companies brought something/services people find beneficial. All FB brought was toxicity and allowed people you never liked in school to find you again.

Why da hell would you sell anything at loss if you don’t have to? He is a CEO of a multibillion dollar company yet he doesn’t understand this simple logic?

I got their Quest 2, it is neat! but got drifstick on both controllers, so will have to replace those as cleaning does not seemt o help.

I bought it new for 350 euro this is their 255 GB version.

They since upped the price to 450 euro now, and still it is a fun device that works great minus the stick drift lol.

I dont use it alot anymore but the kids still love it, it is immersive!
Watching a tvshow/movie in VR in a virtual room is just chilling, pure focus on the movie, i like it!

Playing a few games of onward, beatsabers, Vacation VR and some other VR games are just fun.
