Neowin.net reports that Oded Ran, a Microsoft executive in charge of Windows Phone marketing in the UK, today posted a tweet suggesting that the company's Zune software will be making its way to the Mac OS X platform in support of syncing for handsets using Windows Phone 7. The tweet, which has been deleted, promised that more details would be coming soon.

Microsoft's Zune software has not been offered on the Mac platform since the company's line of MP3 players launched in 2006, despite continued growth by the Zune platform to include music and video content across computers, phones, and Xbox LIVE.

Media-focused devices from Microsoft such as the discontinued KIN phones have used small helper applications to enable syncing for Mac users, but Ran's tweet appears to reveal that a more substantial Zune experience is coming to Mac OS X alongside the new Windows Phone 7 handsets introduced yesterday.

Hoping it works with old Zunes too. Zune Pass is the biggest feature MS has over iPods in my mind. This will probably get me to go back to my old Zune instead of using my even older iPod Classic.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Haha! wait a minute, it's not April 1st

Thats good. I've personally had a Zune 30GB in the past, and I liked it, overall I had a pretty good experience with it, never died on me or anything, it was made very solid, I dropped it numerous times :p.. Worked really well... Anyway :p point is I wanted Zune to work on the mac but there was no software, and I know there are some Apple users that do have a Zune so It'll be nice to be able to connect and sync songs through a mac..

Zune's marketshare is so amazingly low, and Mac marketshare is also fairly low. Given that most Mac users use many other Apple products, who exactly are they making this for? Less than 5,000 people? If that? Seems more like marketing buzz than anything else, especially since it came from a Microsoft marketer! This is just an easy way for them to get more word out about Zune to the Apple crowd as it would be picked up on various Apple websites.

Bring on the MS bashing as usual to derail a thread.
If MS doesn't provide Macs software you bitch, if they do you bitch. So, why bother...

I appreciate MS making the software available as an option for Users
since not everyone buys every Apple product they provide.

Zune software on a mac would make my Zune HD much more useful to me than it has been since I switched to a mac. The Zune actually makes a really good media device. The problem is it was "fighting the last war" when it came out. I still think that if Microsoft had managed to pull off real application support for the Zune HD it would have been able to actually challenge the iPod.

I hate to break it to the haters/morons, but the Zune software is completely fantastic and is miles ahead of iTunes in terms of presentation and ease of use. Combined with the Zune pass and you have a serious platform. I use an iPhone 4 but use the Zune HD as a pmp and MAN is it awesome. Best thing MS does IMO. In fact, being on OSX primarily, Zune is the only thing I miss not having. IF this is true, I consider it huge news. Goodbye iTunes if that is the case. No ifs, ands or buts.

If you actaully used a Zune you would understand part of the bashing the UI is a piece of crap

Zune LMAO! what a piece of crap that has been.

How would you know since I am betting you do not own one. Oh wait, you have a friend who..........
It's amazing how mac fans who only own Apple products are experts on every other product on the planet and everyone else doesn't now anything.

I say the more the merrier. I probably wouldn't get a Zune or a Windows phone, but why not have the software if you want it. If anything it might help sell a few more Macs to people that have Windows phones provided to them by their employer. I don't really see it hurting iPod or iPhone sales.

Windows Phone 7? Yeah, late to the game but it might be good.

Microsoft writing Mac software that actually works well? That's not going to happen, and if it does it will take them at least a year.

I'm very surprised that this didn't happen earlier. It doesn't make sense for MS (a software company) to shut out potential buyers due to software limitations.

Not that there are a lot of Mac exclusive households, but still a moderately significant number. It would have stopped me from buying a Zune had I wanted one over an iPod.

Apple offers iTunes, with support for iDevices, on Windows computers. Looks like Microsoft may offer the Zune Marketplace with Zune and Windows Phone 7 support on Macs.

What's wrong with this?

You choose what you want to use based on how well each company designs products and services that meet your needs, within your budget.

Hope this happens.
