Hoping it works with old Zunes too. Zune Pass is the biggest feature MS has over iPods in my mind. This will probably get me to go back to my old Zune instead of using my even older iPod Classic.

Zune Pass is truly dumb, period. It is quite stupid the way you buy the music, that's one of the reasons hardly anyone cares about Zune.

Bring on the MS bashing as usual to derail a thread.
If MS doesn't provide Macs software you bitch, if they do you bitch. So, why bother...

I appreciate MS making the software available as an option for Users
since not everyone buys every Apple product they provide.

Hold on my man before you start flaming everyone else for their thoughts on the matter. The article states that it was just a tweet and nothing confirmed as to when it will happen and knowing MS as we do I wouldn't expect their WP7 system to work on Macs, at least not well.

Are you serious?

Is there anyone on the face of this earth that owns a mac and has anything remotely related to Zune? Be serious microsoft.

Some screenshots of the Zune software on my MBP (Bootcamp). Can't wait!

Nice. Honestly, Zune software is easily my favorite media player. Most of these guys don't know what they're missing. There's also the "Songs" view that makes it more iTunes list like with a bit more elegance.

Microsoft does produce software, but they're really in the "Windows + Office in enterprise" business. Ballmer knows that, and he won't do anything to jeopardize sales of MS Windows, Office for Windows, or enterprise software.

All the costly and embarrassing failures with WinCE, Pocket PC, Windows Mobile, KIN, and now Windows Phone 7 have little or no effect on Windows + Office in the enterprise space. So Ballmer really doesn't care if they succeed or not. He's spending resources on WP7 and Zune only because he'd be fired already if Microsoft didn't at least try to copy Apple's products and successes.
I don't believe he doesn't care. He's not too bright but I wouldn't assume he is that dumb.
As of today the new and coming computing paradigm is the iPad, "a tablet computer done right" as Ballmer himself puts it.
Smartphone war, PMP war, OS war... all those wars are... entertaining (as in generating flame-fests and troll baiting in tech forums and blogs) but IMHO the iPad is the real deal as of today. The naysayers can nay-say as they want but the "personal computer" of tomorrow will be an iPad-type.
But the iPad's success is directly the dividends from the efforts Apple put in to make iPod and iPhone those blockbusters. It forced them to re-think how to develop an OS.
What is striking is how "effortlessly" it appears today for Apple to sell the iPad in the millions units. They just got it right.
I'm sure it pisses off Ballmer and all the Microsoft top-brass to be dragged into "copying Apple products and success" but they HAVE TO do it, not for the sake of pleasing the shareholders and competing against Apple, but because it's entry-ticket to be part of this new personal computing paradigm.
Steve Jobs analogy of PC's (generic, that is including Macs) being like trucks is not some gimmick. MSFT can't afford to become a truck-only company.
What I don't know is whether MSFT can really hope to compete against iPad using their Windows-OEM model or if they'll need to make their tablet by themselves. The problem is that Zune and even worse, the Kin have been excruciatingly hurtful experiences for the Redmond Company.

Good news

Windows mobile 7 looks great and I'd be very tempted to get it if they simple have a decent stock tracking application and I actually needed a new phone. My company currently pays for my old and slow bb cellphone so I can't justify spending money on a cell phone plan. In more then a few ways, I think Microsoft has the iPhone and Android phones beat for more users then one might suspect if the analysts reviews are correct but the key for Microsoft is whether or not they can continuously improve the design/software so that developers buy into the platform.

Apple will need to come up with larger screens since the 3.5 inch screen is getting small for how many people use these devices.

I previously tried out a Zune HD which is an awesome piece of hardware/software for playing music. For music, IMHO it clearly beats any of the iPods. That being said, I wouldn't trade my 3rd generation iPod Touch for a Zune HD since the iPod has a couple of great financial applications and much better application support overall. I would give the Zune HD, an A or A- for Music but only a D+ for other uses. The iPod Touch deserves a B or B- for music but a B+ or A- for everything else.

I don't even play games on my iPod touch and really have no desire to do so but the Apple application for picking stocks and the built in browser is great.

Microsoft doesn't need 100,000 apps to compete but they do need a collection of out of the box applications that compares favorably with what Apple offers.

IMHO It looks like Microsoft hit a home run with Windows Phone 7 BUT I am not convinced right now that they know what they are doing in terms of Tablets. And Apple has the huge advantage of having its stores to show off its phones in the best possible light while Microsoft will be counting on 3rd party stores that will do a terrible job.

The more competition, the better as far as I am concerned so I would like to see Microsoft open up at least 50 stores to put some competitive pressure on Apple and Google.

I would like either Apple, Google/Android, or Microsoft to come up with a 4-5 inch iPod Touch like device that can browse the internet on 3g/4g for modest monthly fee on a data plan without requiring a cellphone plan. I don't care if this device can do skype or not but a built in good camera would be great.

I have two Apple computers but I buy the best products for me and I have had many Windows computers in the past. And I just bought an Amazon Kindle 3 which is a great device for reading books and for free 3g web browsing. The Kindle web browsing is very bad in comparison to other products but the price is great so I can't complain at all.

How would you know since I am betting you do not own one. Oh wait, you have a friend who..........
It's amazing how mac fans who only own Apple products are experts on every other product on the planet and everyone else doesn't now anything.

Now that Zune software is coming to Mac and you can get out your Zune and put away your iPod Classic... How soon before you drop an iPhone and add a Zune to all your Mac products in your signature. Surely you are not ashamed of it and can take a little good nature ribbing from a few. Be proud of your Zune. Dance around like a Monkey Boy, do a line dance, scream "Give it up for me" a few times. Be proud of your Zune and display it proudly!

Heard of a little program called Word?

I have Office 2008 and had to use Word last weekend to create a 30-pages document with quite a few pictures in it. It was a pain in the neck.

  • painfully slow
  • Line spacing bugs
  • Font issues
  • 4 - 5 crashes over 2 days
  • Formatting issues after loading a saved document on re-starting word (which disappeared only after the 4rd time doing exactly the same steps. LOL)

But my favorite was when I moved a page up in the Navigation pane. 3 pictures on that page "jumped" onto the previous page and were locked there somehow embedded halfway into the page (50% were outside the page margins) and couldn't be selected/moved anymore by any means. The whole thing looked like a severe glitch. LOL.

And no, none of these bugs were user errors ;) Yeah, MS Software on a Mac rules

It's weird reading a comment like this on macrumors. I think it reflects the way people look at products when they're not a fanboy. Objective. Kind of like if a person was buying a camera, look at the pros and cons, and not bash the ones that don't have the logo of the company they obsessively root for.

If you actaully used a Zune you would understand part of the bashing the UI is a piece of crap

Shocking that someone with the handle "macfan" would think the Zune UI is a piece of crap. :D And that person would also think everyone else in the world who tried it would share their blinkered opinion.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/8B117)

What's a Zune?

What's a Mac?

Now that was stupid.. You do know that you can not walk into Target, Sears, Walmart and so on and find a Zune.. Zune is really hard to find in the wild then a iPod or other mp3 players.. Also Mac's and iPods are on TV where Zune are not...

Since you've gotten rid of all of your Apple products your opinion matters not here, period. :p
