Just got it too - I'm delighted but confused! My shipping notifications/order statuses have never said anything but the 24th. I'm exeptionally pleased at how all this is going considering I didn't manage to preorder the phone until around 4:30pm EST on the 15th.

Congrats guys!

I will not be coming on here June 23rd because I know I will be jealous. :)

But I'm really happy for the people who are getting it!

Could be their way of trying to reduce activation problems by allowing a certain portion to activate before others, instead of everyone at once

Question to those who received this email...did your original shipping confirmation email indicate the 23rd or the 24th?

Apple confirmation had 6/24 and Fedex still show 6/24 by 4:30pm for me. Which is ok because I have the day off on Thursday, but in the event it does come on the 23rd, my wife can sign for it.

Just got the email as well.

"Dear Apple Store Customer,

You recently received a Shipment Notification email from Apple advising you that your iPhone has shipped.

This email is to confirm that your delivery will occur on June 23rd. Although Apple and FedEx tracking information may currently indicate a later date, you can check the FedEx website the morning of the June 23rd to track your package to your doorstep.

In the event that you will not be available to accept delivery on June 23rd, it may be more convenient to use our pre-sign delivery option by visiting our Order Status website at http://www.apple.com/orderstatus.

Sincerely,

The Apple Store Team"

It's not,

I just talked to the customer support they said they want to get these out as soon as possible! They said they need to take more pre orders!

Now FedEx is like ****, all those people we brought in to work OT delivering iPhones on Thursday will have to come in on Wednesday too :). "Yeaaaaah that'd be great if you could just come in on Wednesday and deliver iPhones."

Well, this is certainly a refreshing change from all these crazy preordering and cancellation and other orders and reservations in limbo...

My guess is that by getting it in the hands of people earlier than the 24th, fewer activations would occur and ATT's networks wont get bombarded with activations.

Now if they would do the same with reservations and allow select people to pick up on the 23rd, that'd be great...

Tons of people got the same email last year with the 3GS only to have it held at the fedex location until the release date. I know this because I have a friend who works for fedex and he told me they got tons of angry calls and people stopping in looking for their package. But they have specific instructions from Apple to not deliver before the store release date..... He said this is common and they do it all the time for big companies. I do however remember him telling me that a few slipped through the cracks and were sent out for delivery.

Just got the e-mail as well. Pleasantly surprised, I definitely think this is a combination of Apple wanting to maybe save face from the issues on pre-order day and also probably to avoid having more drama when potentially a million+ iPhone users try to activate their phones on the 24. Smart move on Apples part. Very excited!

Link to people getting this email last year?

I just got the same email. I got on here to post a new thread (but of course this thread was already here). I have two iPhones on the way, one for my wife and one for me. They were ordered separately, mine shipped 24 hours after hers and her tracking shows hers as farther along than mine. Even so, the FedEx tracking for mine still shows a delivery date of June 23, while hers shows the 24th. The email didn't have an order number or any other way to tell which order its referring to. I wonder if that means they'll both show up on Wednesday. Here's hoping...

Edit: To clarify, the original Apple shipment notification emails for both phones showed a June 23 delivers by date. For my wife's phone, the actual FedEx tracking has always shown the 24th, while my phone has always shown the 23rd.

Wow! It's true. My tracking number said it would deliver on the 23rd, and I called fedex because I didn't believe that. Three different people told me that some indeed were shipping early. In fact one person I spoke with told me "even if Apple called us and said to hold them, we don't have space in our warehouses to hook all of these phones coming in from Hong Kong." ha,ha..I still didn't believe him, but it looks like this is happening...

This just seems fishy to me. I'm happy for you guys if it's true, but I'm still skeptical even with screenshot proof. It just seems un apple. Hackers?

No offense intended, but I ordered the 3GS last year and do not recall receiving an email like this. Maybe some other people did but I definitely did not and I ordered the first day of pre-ordering just like this year.

Same thing, just got the email!

So stoked if true, but i bet its just to ease the traffic and mess on the servers the 24th...smart move apple

So i just got an email ...confirming my delivery for the 23rd?!?!?!

Apple sent out this email not FedEx.

Be that as it may, this e-mail indicates that the specific instructions from Apple say "deliver at will". If Apple had sent an e-mail saying "Look, we know your delivery date says the 23rd, but it won't be there until the 24th", that would be something completely different.

Apple wouldn't send an e-mail saying "it's coming on this date" only for them to go to FedEx and say otherwise.
