just buy the atlona so that when apple release an update that supports 1080p output, you won't need to do anything, it will fix it for you.

This is what is included in the box. Everything you need. Just pick up a $3 HDMI cable from monoprice.com if you don't have one. What other cables do you want?

* Belkin AV360 HDMI-to-Mini DisplayPort Converter
* Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable (4 ft./1.2 m)
* USB cable (4 ft./1.2 m)

I'm in the process of reviewing the belkin av360 right now, I'll post an update here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/962633/

What a read... I just spent an entire graveyard shift catching up on those 40 pages.

So as it stands right now, the Cadillac is AT-HD620. Excellent, great work. Wish I had found this thread before I bought a monoprice cable!

Is there any lag using the 620?

I just got a Dr Bott for my 27", but it's not working. I have my PS3 plugged in correctly, but when I hit Cmd+F2, the screen turns black, then blue, then back to the desktop. I can't set the PS3 to 720 since I have only a standard def TV. I tried holding down the power switch to reset it, no luck. Any ideas?

...And if not, anyone wanna buy a like new Dr Bott for $100? :p

Did you set the PS3 to HDTV before hooking it up? It sometimes won't detect it automatically. You can also try pressing and holding the power button when the PS3 is off. You'll hear a beep, let it go. It just re-detected the display.
You might need another hdtv source to set the PS3 to 720p first...

Well I took the PS3 to a friend's house and changed the settings there. Back on my Mac, the PS3 seemed to be working fine at first, but I tried to start a game it started acting goofy. Basically, I can play the PS1 game I downloaded perfectly. The PS3 game I downloaded plays, but there is a harsh buzzing sound coming from my speakers, and no sounds from the game. The PS3 disc game I tried wouldn't play at all; the screen turned black and there was the harsh buzzing sound from the speakers.

Any ideas what might be going on?

Having had little to no experience with this... no, sorry I don't know what could be wrong.

That's really weird! Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Are there any display settings you can play with on the PS3?

Nope. :/ I think I'll just return it to the seller and wait to get something else.

Would it be possible to...

Connect both a mac mini (2009 model with mini displayport) plus a PS3 as inputs to this Altona box, then have it output to a 27" imac with the displayport in feature?

That way, I could switch between viewing the mac mini (which is set up as an HTPC, itunes server etc), the PS3, and the imac, all on that fantastic 27" screen!!

There's always the possibility that this converter is defective. Is it an option to ask the selling for an exchange? This is what I would do. Of course, having the first one fail, especially if it's brand new, would make me not trust the brand.

I'm going to buy one of these:

$198 and full 1080p!

The Altona definitely seems like the ultimate option for this, especially now that the price has dropped:

I have a few questions for people who currently own this product.

1) Have you tried to hook up your HD cable box to the Altona via the HDMI port?

2) If the answer is "yes you have hooked up your HD cable box" and it works, is it a pain swapping out each device? Meaning does the imac require a restart every time you switch the HDMI inputs?

3) If switching the two devices (e.g. HD cable box and a xbox 360) does require restarting and is not convenient, would an HDMI splitter work and still hold the same quality picture?

I am just very curious about this because I have a standard definition TV and wouldn't mind getting this adapter if I could have both my xbox 360 AND an HD cable box hooked up to my imac display. But if it is too much of a pain in the you-know-what I will probably just invest in a HDTV down the road instead.

Thank you, and any help is appreciated.

I have the Atlona 620, an Atlona HDMI switch, 2 24" LED and my Mac Pro. The 620 is impeccable, there were issues using an MDP extension cable from the 620 to the LED, but Atlona tested this for me and diagnosed it very quickly. I now use the extension cable on the other side from the Mac Pro to the 620, I have a PS3, Apple TV and XBOX connected to the HDMI switch, cable into the 620. The 620 has audio out, so I have plugged this into a shinybow 4 way audio switch, with the Mac Pro audio plugged in as well then the output to my M-Audio speakers.

Switching for the HDMI switch and the 620 are by remote control. Call of Duty is awesome on the display and the audio is great on the M-audio, what I love is I can still have my email and other work on the other display.

This setup will work just as well on the imac, in fact I was going to buy a 27 imac to go with this, but now the 27 monitors have been released I will use those instead, hopefully get one of the new graphics cards as well

just seen you have another thread open on this as well, I have posted there for you as well, let me know if you want more info, I'm going to do a full wirte up when I get time with a video and everything, I said I would do it for Atlona as well, here is the link http://www.atlona.com/3x1-Atlona-HDMI-Switch-HDMI-1.3.html

you need to be careful on HDMI cables too, the mediabridge ones from amazon are tried and tested.

A newbie here to the forums..planning on buying an Imac next week, been reading the thread here about hooking up the 360 to the Imac through the MDP.

Forgive me if this question has been answered already, My Xbox 360 has the HD component cables and not the HDMI, those came later, is there an adapter out there that will connect to the component then to the MDP on the imac?
I like my 360 as is and would like to try having to purchase an newer one just to have the HDMI in the back to plug into..this is my plan B. I would buy the AV360 cable by Belkin if there is no option to the above..

thanks

Hey, thanks for the info. A few Q's...

1. Does the Atlona box you have scale your PS3/360 games to 1900x1200 on your 24" Apple LED Display? Are there black bars or image stretching? How good do games look on it using the Atlona?

2. I'm debating whether to get an Apple 24" or a 27" ACD. Using the ATlona converter, will a PS3's image scale successfully to the 27inch's native resolution? Will the image suffer?

Many thanks!

I'm in the same boat and would like an answer as well. Mdp to hdmi to component is to ghetto. I will probably end up going with the VGA xbox cable(compatible with all 360s), then convert that to hdmi.

Does anyone know of a a hdmi switch that has hdmi + VGA in?

There is a AT-HDVieW - VGA to HDMI Scaler box which will take any resolution sent from Xbox and scale it to HDMI.

Alright, so I have the Atlona at-hd620 and it has worked great for the past few months, but it always outputs the signal to native resolution(2560x1440).

Now I know the Imac 27inch does not output anything to 1080p, only 1440p and 720p, but I can't seem to force/override the Atlona to output at 720p, only 1440p.

So what I'm asking is does anyone know a way to have the output be 720p, instead of native 1440p? Thanks!

There is no way to manually adjust the output resolutions on the HD620. The HD620 will automatically sense the native resolution of the display connected and output accordingly. The reason why we made it the way it is, is because Apple displays are very unique as far as resolutions they work on and we didn't want the user to have issues going through 50 resolutions before finding one that works. The HD620 outputs 2560x1440 when connected to the iMac 27" (which is the highest iMac 27" can take) and 1920x1200 when connected to 24" LED. Also, same goes for HP and Dell displays which have DisplayPort Connection.

Thanks for the info. It still looks great for stretching the 1080p signal to 1440p.
