I made a few videos of myself playing Red Dead Redemption, for those curious to see how the Atlona performs.

And an image:

The AT-HD620 is currently the only device capable of 1080p. I'm quite impressed with the quality so far. Judge for yourselves in my videos/image.

First off, what did you use to capture the video using the atlona and the imac? [EDIT] nvm, I was on my ipod touch last night when I saw your post so I couldn't watch the videos. Didn't realize you just used a camcorder and recorded the imac itself. But if anyone knows some way to take advantage of the atlona and capture xbox 360 footage, please post up a solution even though I'm guessing it's highly unlikely.

Second, when you says it's the only device capable of 1080p, you should correct yourself and say it's the only device capable of 1440p, cause it doesn't output at 1080p, unless you know something I don't. Please reply asap.

Yeah I was on my iPhone at the time and it corrected 1440p to 1080p. But yeah, it'd be nice if it were possible to record what's on screen whilst playing.

Wait, so it's confirmed that this Dr. Blott product actually works? $30 sounds like a much better price than the other adapters running for hundreds of dollars.

Ah okay, that makes more sense. I suppose the other device is only for MDP -> HDMI rather than the other way.

The 30 dollars thing, isnt a device, but an adapter. I guess most people use a mdp -> hdmi adapter to connect their macbook/macbook pro, mini etc to TV with hdmi input.

I kind of dont get why apple keeps using mdp. I mean, come an, atleast add and hdmi port, it would make the life of so many people a hell of alot easier. Then you could connect blu ray, ps3, xbox 360 and all that good stuff, into a hdmi swtich, then run one cable from the switch to the imac, BOOM!

i have a dream...

It really bothers me Apple's lack of support for the common consumer, who in fact would want to connect an HDMI device to such a good display.

if anyone figures out a way to record the footage from your xbox without a capture card and just the imac and the atlona, PLEASE LET US KNOW.

What the heck happened to Atlona's website? Going to www.atlona.com forwards me to another company, http://www.lenexpo-electronics.com/ , which has a dubious rating according to Web of Trust.

Edit: Lenexpo says that Atlona is its manufacturing division. The site still advertises all the Atlona adaptors and things.

Edit, a couple of days later: It looks like the Atlona website is back.

Just one thing. When we're talking about Atlona upscalling the 1080 PS3 output to 1200 and 1440 iMac input, what do we get (in terms of quality) when compared to a 1080 input of a HDTV? Does the image get crappy? How much better than the Kanex XD 720 output with iMac 720 input?

In other words, is the atlona at-hd620 really worth it (130€ more than the KanexXD)?

EDIT: Just one more thing: Is it possible that Apple adds an input resolution of 1080 through the MDP with a firmware update or something that does not include getting a new iMac (which I would not do, of course..)??

I've been following this thread for a while and finally got the Kanex XD.
Its amazing. Its flawless. Although its in 720p, it doesn't look bad at all and there aren't any lag whatsoever.

I think it was worth the purchase. I'll have videos up on my channel.

Don't understand..

I don't get it, on the ebay product page, it says the Mr. Bot product is compatible with a whole host of Apple computers. Quoting,

"Compatibility DVI

iMac 27" OCT 2009
iMac Aluminum 20" APR 2008
iMac Aluminum 20" AUG 2007
iMac Aluminum 24" APR 2008
iMac Aluminum 24" AUG 2007
iMac Intel 17"
iMac Intel 20"
iMac Intel 24"
Mac mini Early 2005
Mac mini Early 2006
Mac mini Early 2009
Mac mini Late 2005
Mac mini Late 2006
Mac mini Mid 2007
MacBook 13 Mid 2006
MacBook Pro 15 Early 2006
MacBook Pro 17 Early 2006
MacPro
Power Mac G4
Power Mac G5"

This makes no sense, as from what I've heard the option of inputing through the displayport has only become available with the new 27' iMac model. Is there something I'm not getting?

If I buy that Kanex XD thing, what will I need to buy?
An HDMI cable? MiniDisplay cable? Or does it come with everything?

Right now I play my 360 on my ghetto Sony TV from 1985.
An upgrade is needed but I don't play/use a TV enough to justify buying an HDTV.

Any help would be appreciated.

I just ordered my Kanex XD, I should be getting it tomorrow :).

It still extremely bothers me that Apple has not yet released an update to support 1080p input. Does anyone have any thoughts as to whether we'll ever be seeing that?

I wish Apple would give in to HDMI, unlike Blu Ray with admittedly will sooner than later be trumped by web streaming/download, HDMI is here to stay for many years to come. The add on of an HDMI-in for iMac would make many people happy, and would resolve part of the Blu Ray issue. For the price they charge for these all in ones, having the option to use it as a stand alone monitor out of the box shouldn't even be a discussion.

In layman's terms, it's pretty fu(king ridiculous it hasn't been implemented already.

Yeah, doesn't include all the cables you'll want though. But sure, it's still a good alternative.

This is what is included in the box. Everything you need. Just pick up a $3 HDMI cable from monoprice.com if you don't have one. What other cables do you want?

* Belkin AV360 HDMI-to-Mini DisplayPort Converter
* Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable (4 ft./1.2 m)
* USB cable (4 ft./1.2 m)
