Both stores are sold out and don't know when new shipments are coming in. I've also been advised that when shipments do come in they're usually sold out within 1 - 2 hours.

This may be the wrong thread to post this to, but hey, ill give it a shot.

"Hey guys, im wondering, im proberly going to buy the iPhone 4 Unlocked from the Apple Store in the UK and proberly going to buy the Sim separate from another mobile company. Im interested in o2's Pay & Go Simplicity Tariff which allows me to have 100 any network minutes, 500mb of web usage and unlimited texts for £15.

With the attached image it says that you get 500mb web. Does this mean 3G web data or WiFi data? If WiFi does this mean i can't use my own network?

Also regarding to money, does the iPhone 4's GPS cost money to use?

Anything is much appreciated, Cheers."

Actually anything UK related - this is the right thread!

Any UK network that advertises "500MB data" or "1GB data" means 3G data. This is not wiFi data or inclusive of it. You can use your own wiFi network at home for free. Most networks also offer free wiFi hotspot access - in the UK this is usually BT OpenZone and is commonly found in coffee shops/Main airports + 100s of other places and this will be mentioned in addition to any 3G data they are talking about.

Don't know when you will be in the UK, but hoping to pick up a phone instore is going to be pretty rare. Your best bet is either to order it online through Apple and have it delivered (most people are now getting it in less than 3 weeks) or you can get a contract phone (Phone + 12/18/24month contract) from the major networks of which there are plenty of iPhones around.

Go over to page 699 of this thread and read some of the Tesco offers I have mentioned. They do a SIM only plan (if you have your iphone already) - £15 a month (rolling monthly contract) gets you 750 mins talk/unlimited text/500MB of data or £10 gets you 500 mins talk/unlimited text/500MB of data per month. This offer is only valid for a month however.

Tesco not only do the shortest contract (12 months) but also do the cheapest overall contract. 32GB iPhone 4 (£429 subsidised) + £20/month for £669. More info on page 699.

Tesco also use the 02 network as their backbone, so any service you get with them will be the same as if you went with 02. Bare in mind however that all contract phones are locked.

Don't quote me on this but the GPS (if you use ones like navigon/tom tom) offer to work offline without cellular service so I know those services dont require any data usage since the entire map is already on the phone. Of course whilst using those respective services things such as trafiic update etc might come through the 3G data which will count against your allowance. You know what however, you shouldnt really even worry about it. Its not a lot and your monthly allowance (500mb+) should be more than enough. Just make sure whatever plan you get explicitly states you have 3g data included.

Thanks for the reply. Btw, i live in the UK, lol sorry if i didn't make that clear enough.

I found a good Sim-Only deal from Three Store. Now is Three good? Whats the 3G connection like? Just to let you know, the only time i would be using the 3G network is when im out and about, so i would mostly be at home using my home network on WiFi, so i shouldn't waste my data right?

Is 1GB of data enough? Also, is this a good deal? (I have an image below of the plan details) I will proberly order the iPhone 4 off Apple Online so it's unlocked.

EDIT: Is page 699 legit? lol, i thought this thread only went up to page 438?

it depends where you live on how any network will be like, I am on 3 mobile and have no complaints on their coverage and 3G is far more widespread than any other network I've been on (orange, asda/voda, and virgin/tmobile)

1GB should be more than enough data (for general web browsing/facebook) and also 3 mobile allow you to use iplayer and skype (skype is the killer feature for me) over 3G (but that would use more data than just browsing the web, if you do find you go near or over the 1GB limit then you can always buy another 1GB for £5 a month which would still make it cheeper than any other network (o2 only give you 500MB for £5)

go here to check you coverage http://www.three.co.uk/Help_Support/Coverage

some people say their coustomer service is rubbish but I have never had a problem though I have only ever called them once when I changed my number over to them, but honestly how much would you ever need to call them.

and because all of these sim only deals are only 30 day commitment if you get rubbush signal or you find the network rubbish you are free to leave without being in an 18 or 24 month contract, it is win win as far as I can see.

(also you can always request a couple of free sims from all the networks you want to try out the signal before you you even sign up for the sim only contracts too)

and yes page 699 is fine we are on 701 now

Thats weird im on page 400 and something atm, lol.

Anyway, i checked on 3's coverage test, and it said this;

"You can use your mobile to make calls, send texts and use the internet in most outdoor locations. If you're inside you may struggle to get a signal."

Is that good? :S

I think i might just go for it, but do you recommend any other networks?

Also, if i bought that Sim for £15, would that come with a Mobile Number for my iPhone 4? Or would i have to ask for new number? And would the Sim be Micro-Sim? lol, soz for all the questions, just making sure!

Does anyone know what courier 3 use to deliver iPhones ordered online?

I have been told its DHL but in the past I have had trouble with DHL as im not in when they deliver.

Thanks

as I say it depends I live in a dark purple area so it says I get signal everywhere, plus if you dont get a signal you can always quit after the first 30 days as there is no contract.

yes it will come with a number all you would have to do in punch out the sim and put it in the phone and give people your new number.

to get a micro sim you will either have to request one when you order, or you can always cut the sim down to microsim size if they send you the wrong size or if they cant send you a microsim for any reason.

I'm looking at O2 Simplicity right now.

I'm not sure whether 300 minutes will be enough for me, so I was thinking about applying for ₤15 plan (300 minutes, unlimited sms, 500Mb) on a 12 months contract, and then, eventually, to upgrade to ₤20 plan (600 minutes, unlimited sms, 500Mb). Will I be able to do this? Or will I have to wait till my first ₤15 contract finishes (or pay a fine)?

Btw, how useful BT Openzone is (in London/City)? Does it just work (like you walking around London and it automatically connects to every BT hotspot it finds) or do I have to log-in every time?

Thanks!

Quoting myself, I'd appreciate if somebody can help me.

Hi there. I'm sure you can move up price plans at any time but its moving down price plans they have an issue with. This is assuming that you're on a sim only plan.

Can anyone give me an update on the iPhone 4 stock in Apple stores on Regent Street or Covent Garden.
My friend is plannig a trip to London next week and he could perhas bring me one, if the have any available.

My friend just contacted me. He was queuing outside Regent Street this morning. Went there at 6am was first in the queue and at 9am he was able to purchase 2 iPhone 4 32GB phones. About 80 people in the queue by the time the store opened at 9am. Not sure about 16GB availability but whatever they had, all phones sold out by 9:30am.

Are there any other stores in Londres where one can get an unlocked, contract free iP 4?

Covent Garden. But best of luck to getting your hands on a phone. I was there yesterday and unfortunately had none in stock. When I questioned a member of staff they said when they come in the generally sell out within an hour or two.

Looking at getting the iPhone 4 from Tesco on the 12 month deal. But just wondering as my company use an o2 simcard (yes I have it on micro sim with adaptor)

Does an o2 microsim work in a Tesco iPhone 4? Has anyone tried this or know the answer

Thank you for your feedback. Do you think the length of my contract will be reset at the moment of upgrade to a more expensive plan?

By the way, when they talk about "300 minutes", do they mean both landline and cellphone numbers of all carriers?

I'm not entirely 100% sure about the contract resetting, but if I had to guess I don't think it would as I recently downgraded my friends plan but her contract still ended the same time regardless so I'm assuming that if you move up a plan you continue on the length of the original contract. I'd ask to make sure though.

300 mins is for both landline and mobile unless stated otherwise!

Ok, great, thank you for the info. :)

Btw, what does O2 do when you reach 500Mb cap limit?

They will probably gonna slow down your 3g conection...
Just to let you know that 500mb is not the limit of your 3g data....Its the amount of data they want you to use it...
But obviosly if you go too much over your data plan they will charge you....

I ordered from Apple online from the UK and they delivered using UPS and they came at like 6pm too!

Waited in the whole day, on the other hand its been 7 days since I received my iPhone 4 and I love it. :)

I'm very jealous! How long between ordering it and arrival? Was it the full 3 weeks? I ordered mine a week ago and hoping desperately for an early delivery (its projected for Oct 4th)

Edit: Just saw your previous post, sorry - ordered 31st August, delivered 7th sept, yes? So maybe mine will arrive next week... I live in hope!

I went with voda uk. They say its sold out on the website but they order them on demand as such and got it about 3 days later

Picked mine up from the Orange shop, Birmingham Bullring on Saturday morning.

They had 15 (12x16gb, 3x32gb) contract phones and 2x16gb on PAYG.

Turns out i had over £28 in my Orange phone fund discount, so got mine for £461 which included £10 credit too.

I'm not surprise, that IS Central London... where tourist and locals flock to the two flagship stores.
