My first iMac, 27" 2010 i7 BTO.

I'm quite satisfied with the screen, have I been lucky or am I not seeing it?

Pictures done from a slight distance zoomed from a closet (it was positioned slightly higher then the screen, so a bit aiming down).

It looks a bit yellow to me at the bottom:)

Would you send this one back??

Do you guys think there is a yellow tint issue.

In real life observation, there is a tiny bit yellow tint at the bottom 1/3 to 1/4; however, it seems to me I can not get shots that is really spot on compare to other photos uploaded by others, what do you guys think?

The part shown has quite a good color uniformity (less than 1% components non-uniformity). However most problems happens on the very edges of the screen, dark here. Also, if you make a picture, try to be straight in front of the screen and use longer focal length. But I think you are probably OK.

Thanks TOM, I have a full screen test here, have a look: http://www.flickr.com/photos/taoxia/5022702106/

Thanks

Got my 21,5"replacement last monday. It has so little yellow. Without the test you can't even notice it. I Will take a photo !

I don't like visible darker corners, but you do not have yellow tinge problem.

Hi Tom, thanks for your reply.

As I said, I can not really take a good photo that is good enough to demonstrate the problem, however, I can clearly see the bottom half is yellow tint effect.

After that, I tried another 3 iMacs, all of them have the same yellow tint issue, therefore, I decided to get my refund.

Try the screen test, look at the top half for 2-3 seconds, and move your eye directly to the bottom, did you see any difference.

The one I return has the yellow tint problem, however, the photo I took looks just fine.

This picture has moire patterns on my screen, could you take a better picture?

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your help, I couldn't stand the yellow, it was getting to me when I browse forums with a grey background, scrolling text + yellow tint = ouchie to the eyes.

Instead of searching for a flawless display, I have opted for the mac mini + random display combo. So far I have noticed the lack of power from the mac mini compared to the iMac but for my needs it seems fine.

Best of luck to everyone who is still searching for that perfect display.

It's really a shame Apple can't fix this screen problem.

How Yellow is Yellow Tint?!!!!!!

Hi guys, for the past couple days I went to 3 different apple resellers (no apple store here), and there was only ONE 27 inch iMac has very very very little yellow tint at the bottom, all the rest of the units (even apple cinema display) have bottom half yellow tint issues, which makes me wonder: is that just normal on LED screens?

I also did a test on my other screen as well, here are the results:

My 2-year old Sony laptop has top 30% yellow tint @_@, and my 24 inch LCD at home also have bottom 40% yellow tint and so on...

The whole yellow tint thing is really start to get annoying.

If I look for the yellow tint, I will find it......

Is it "normal"? I guess that's a good question I'm trying to find the answer to. Or, more appropriate, "will it get worse?"

Running a Fall '09 27-inch iMac, and although I know I should have noticed it earlier given all the news about it, the screen originally appeared fine. But, lately I've noticed that when a lot of the screen is white and I'm using the computer at night, there are two large yellow spaces, each roughly 1/3 from either monitor edge. It's not terribly noticeable most of the time. When I run the gray-bar test, you can see it, but it's not terrible.

If every screen is going to be like this, then no point in trying to replace, right?

Everytime I think about buying as new iMac, I check this forum and decide not to. People in the Apple store say they have not had any problem. Is it even possible to get a perfect one? My 22" Acer monitor with my PC cost $188, has matte screen and No artifacts, no color problems.

Yes, I am planning to do something similar, except I'd rather go for a McBook of some sort (Pro???). And definitely not the Apple display.

Funny but true story.

I had a 60 minutes long chat with one of the apple representatives on the phone( By the way, that guy was awesome, best customer services people I ever seen, thumbs up!), and in the end, we found out the imac (21.5) he is using also had the yellow tint!!

So far, I think the problem is very very common among iMacs.

If you are not looking for it, you wont notice the yellow tint; however, if you are looking for it, it will be there @_@

I have made a feedback to apple about the issue, unlikely I will get a reply, but I tried at least.

Best wishes to all!

Perfect iMac

Relax. I've had my new iMac 21.5 3.2 GHz for a couple of days now. No yellow tint issue, dead pixels, uneven color or weird screen artifacts. I've checked hard but there's nothing visible to the naked eye. Screen is gorgeous, in fact. The 1TB Seagate drive does occasionally rumble when seeking but it's nothing I'm concerned about.

It's a great machine overall: fast, solidly-built and beautifully designed. The screen is its best feature. I've played some HD movies on it and the clarity is outstanding. If you're in the market for an iMac there's nothing, from my experience, that should dissuade you.

5th times a charm?

Just wanted to report that my 4th replacement imac (2 2009 and now 2 2010) arrived today and has yellowing toward the bottom third of the screen as did all three before it. I've already arranged for it to go back and will send it off tomorrow, a process I've become all too familiar with.

I'd be happy at this point just to find one that's not *noticeably* discolored. I strongly believe that the vast majority of people reporting "perfect" screens are simply not perceptive enough to notice the issue.... lucky them.

As someone who's reported an iMac with a good screen I can assure you I'd notice if the bottom half of my display was in any way yellow or discolored. I've even asked others to look at the screen and they've noticed nothing. Screen is just stunning: crystal clear, uniform and bright.

You must be very unfortunate indeed to get four faulty machines in a row. I'd have given up by now. I guess I'm just a lucky so and so...
