I'd be happy at this point just to find one that's not *noticeably* discolored. I strongly believe that the vast majority of people reporting "perfect" screens are simply not perceptive enough to notice the issue.... lucky them.

My 2009 iMac 27" has a slight yellow tinge, I hardly notice it. I decided to keep it, because otherwise it is perfect. Apart from this slight yellow tinge, I am very happy with my iMac.

I'm getting mad...
Today I'll call once again to the Apple Store to replace it...

Keep it if you are happy:)

Should I take a picture with a camera? I took a screen capture for the other picture. From my perspective there is only a slight variation of color in the top and bottom bars. Are the bars supposed to be the exact same color?

you will need to use your camera, the screenshot from the system wont do the job.

If the screen is good, you should have the same color;).

Yep, mine's definitely yellow too. I think my friend at work has an even bigger yellowing problem

I used PS and moved parts of the bottom to the top you can see the noticeable difference.

Is this a problem that gets worse over time? I can live with it if i know it wont get progressively yellower and yellower.

Got my replacement panel fitted over the weekend and it looks better than my first one although I swear if you look for it you will see it.

Rigged it up in the Apple Store to check it and looked really white, mainly due to the excellent lighting they have in there. Bit more 'yellowy' here but that's all over. Got rid of dust from under glass and two dead pixels in bottom right hand corner. Good job I got Apple Care as new panel would have cost over £400 (UK)

I use Apple for 19 years now (Classic II :) ). Last june I bought a new 21.5" iMac in a APR store. Right after connection I noticed the famous yellow tinge. Because of work activities I could only bring it back after a few weeks. The screen had to be replaced. That took 3 weeks.

I got the message from the store: "replaced screen, tested and ok"
But when I checked it at home, a yellow tinge was visible right away. At a different part this time. I need the computer for my study and my work so I asked for another iMac. 'Not possible'. My money back then? 'Not possible'. It had to be repaired again. That took 2 weeks.

"Replaced screen, tested and ok" and... Right! Yellow tinge again. The 3rd screen.

Now I realy wanted my money back. But that was impossible. "Apple has the rule blahblahblah..." After threatening to ask help of a consumers organisation they came with the proposal to trade the iMac for another one with the same specs.

We checked the new iMac in the store and it had a yellow tinge. Also the last one they had in supply showed yellow tinge. The only iMac that didn't have the tinge was the demonstration model on the shelf of the store. And still they refused to give me a refund. But they soon did after I gained some legal advice.

Ok, so today I got my money back and travel to another APR in this area. I go for the 27" this time. I check the screen in the shop, from a distance. It looks ok, slightly yellow lines across the borders, but I've seen worse so I take it. At home, when I'm installing the software I notice a tiny black line... and a dot... and another dot. First I thought of bad pixels but with a magnifying glass it appears to be fragments of black plastic.

What is the matter with these screens? The box says "Assembled in China". Is iMac 2010 just a piece of deteriorated chinese junk?

Your screen looks awful. I'd return it. That is not accceptable.

Most likely, it will get worse. I sure cant see it getting better.

so...

you pay top dollar for an underspecced and overpriced machine..

its duff out of the box and when its repaired 3 times its still duff.

you have to seek legal advice to get your money back and when you do....

...

...

YOU BUY ANOTHER ONE???!!???

whilst Apple's QC has always been shocking I'm inclined to say you deserved it for your 'loyalty'

BUY SOMETHING ELSE!

I was checking if my 21.5 (Mid 2010) had the yellow tinge.
I expanded the boxes so they stretched the whole screen. I took a picture of it and uploaded it on to my macbook. Then I cropped a part of the bottom box and brought it up to the top box and they were the same exact color. Is this a sufficient way to test for the yellow? I'm assuming my iMac has a good screen. Can someone please verify that this was a good way to test for the yellow.

I had to really argue with 2 store managers before getting a refund on my 4th. This was within the 14 day refund period too. I ended up buying the 2009 Mac Pro 4 months before the 2010 versions came out. I didnt want to wait and buy a new Apple product only to find out they had not properly tested it. It felt safer buying a product that had been out for nearly a year.

I notice a very slight variation in color temperature between the top and bottom of the screen but it looks more like a slightly uneven backlight level than a "yellowing".

This is on the 2009 i7 I just got new.

THATS because these monitors JUST came out LESS than a year ago. Give it time. The split screen defect on the older iMac screens DID indeed get worse over time.
I ordered my 27" iMac in the first available batch (ordered Oct '09, received Nov '09) and the yellow, while present but very minor, certainly hasn't gotten any worse. FWIW, my iMac is powered on at all times although the screen does go to sleep when I'm not using it. I realize that's only one data point, but my experience suggests the problem shouldn't get worse.

Unless you have a very serious case of screen yellowing, I suggest you accept it. Honestly, you won't even notice it once you stop fixating on it. I'm as anal-retentive as anyone and I rarely notice the yellowing now that I'm not focused on it.
