The moment I see people are having to make mods like this, the moment I instantly lose interest in this case.

Maybe this user just likes a lot of grip. I am totally satisfied with this case and its grip. I have been using it consistently for the past week now and really do think it is a great case for what all it offers.

I'm getting more and more convinced that this will become my favorite case. I have 30 days from Incipio to test it out. Trust me, it will get a workout!

Yes the sound is slightly muffled but its tolerable. It is waterproof w/ waterproof headphone adapter. I'll include a pic of it. My only concern is I'm not too happy w/ the home button & you have to push slightly harder than I'm use to. All around its the best case I've seen yet. (I've had em all. Waterproof anyway) the connectors are gold played @ it is flat so u can close the bottom after installation.

Took the case with me to the beach yesterday. It has survived the salt water test.

I like the case so much more than the LifeProof Fre. This case is slippery though (think Otterbox Commuter).

I wish Incipio made an actual slot for a lanyard like the LifeProof Fre and Otterbox Armor.

I attached a lanyard at the hinge part of the charge port door, works great! Here's a pic.

2 QUESTIONS FOR ATLAS USERS:

1. Do people have a hard time hearing you when you're talking?

2. Do you hear a humming/screeching sound that comes and goes when you're listening to the other person talk?

1. No
2. I hear the screaching sound all the time. It's starting to annoy me.

I have a grey one I pre ordered from incipio. There was no sticker on the inside of the glass. Just incase someone was wondering.

1. No, never.
2. On my first case, yes. Not on my second case...so far.

Hmm, I may just go back to a Verizon store today and switch it with another one.

Thanks

Haha, yeah its bugging the hell out of me.

I got mine from Verizon and it came with the sticker, but it was not that hard to pull off, you just have to do it slowly.

2 last question guys:

1. Are the 2 tabs underneath the bottom cover being worn out for you guys?

I'm a bit worried about it being worn down to eventually flat as we constantly pull off the cover to recharge.

Eventually it may not provide a good enough seal, and have that "snap" sound anymore.

2. Will these issues deter you from using the case?

I really like this case, it's sturdy, tempered glass, sleek design, and better looking then the Fre or Armor.

But the sound just really bugs me.

1. I have had the case for almost 2 weeks and the door defiantly has loosened up a little.
2. I might give the lifeproof another try. I can't take this sound issue anymore. I called incipio they said I should watch some videos on how to install the case. They also said the case is perfect. I love when people blow smoke up my a**. Feels great !!!!

That's a shame to hear. I exchanged my case twice at Verizon and just returned the third one 'for good.' I held off on getting something else for now in hopes that they might make some improvements soon because I really liked some aspects of the case. I loved how it was more solid than the Lifeproof without being huge like the OtterBox. I really liked the idea of the glass screen but I had sensitivity issues with all three that I tried. The first was awful but the other two weren't as bad. They were actually great when I jammed some business cards in the back of the case to press the screen against the screen protector, but I shouldn't have to do that.

I couldn't get past the awful sound quality in both the earpiece and the speaker however. If they were as good as the Lifeproof I would have been fine with it but the earpiece sounded awful and the speaker was way too muted. I am okay with the argument that sound quality is going to suffer a bit with a sealed case (to an extent), but the OtterBox proved otherwise. On calls, the earpiece of the first case I tried had awful feedback constantly. The second one didn't seem to have any, but the third had it sporadically.

I hope Incipio changes their tune on this because this case could be fantastic if they perhaps changed the membranes they use and insured that the phone's screen presses firmly against their glass screen. Unfortunately it doesn't sound like they're willing to admit to any flaws.

You had better sound then the Atlas?

It's hard to believe, considering the youtube videos I saw of the sound quality on the armor. From what I heard, it was muted about 50% until you take off the rubber cover underneath, which exposes the speaker.

For the atlas, at least for me, the dB was good even though it was a bit distorted, it sounds better if you decrease the volume a bit

Maybe it was a different experience for them than for you.

Let me know, I'm curious about the Armor also.

I'm not wildwillis, but I've tried out two Atlases and an Armor in the past two weeks.

As I said earlier in this thread, both of the Atlases sounded awful to the point of being unusable. The sound reverberated in the case, making the whole back vibrate. People couldn't hear me on speakerphone and when using the earpiece there was a squealing sound.

The sound on the Armor has been perfect. I was surprised after seeing some early reviews, but seriously no distortion or volume difference. No complaints from people I've called and I've even traded phones with my roommate to see how it sounded on the other end.

I have to concur regarding the sound on the Armor. It was really good!
My second Atlas has much better sound quality and, surprisingly, volume. It certainly distorts less than my first Atlas.

Same experiences here. I think the volume on the second Atlas I tried seemed better than the others...maybe more comparable to the Lifeproof but the earpiece was more distorted and I think the speaker was more muted.

Sound from the Armor was great though. Really hard to tell the difference from no case at all. I'm thinking about going back to it, but the size of it was kind of ridiculous for my needs.

If Otterbox made a version that was slimmed down to the size of their newest Commuter anf went with either a glass screen or utilized a gasket to seal off a naked screen (like the Lifeproof Nuud for the iPad apparently does) they'd have the ultimate case for my needs...same goes for Incipio if they would change the membranes to whatever Otterbox uses to fix the sound.

I just recorded a high school band rehearsal using Quick Voice and was pleasantly surprised. The sound was good, no rattles, distortion or muffling. There are still intonation problems, but that has nothing to do with the Atlas ;-)

Oh no, the iP5 version doesn't have that at all. There is a thin waterproof, but sound-permeable, membrane covering the speaker. The rubber piece at the bottom actually has a cutout for the speaker so it doesn't cover it at all.

It can be seen in THIS image.

Is that with the bottom rubber piece on or off?

What do you make of this:

My personal experiences have proven to me that Otterbox got it right when it comes to sound on the IP5 Armor case.

My second Atlas is a distant second, but certainly seems to be better than my LP experiences. My first Atlas was awful.

I am leaning towards keeping this Atlas. I concur with the Wildwillis post above wishing Otterbox had made a smaller waterproof case or that Incipio had the same sound engineering that Otterbox has on the Armor. Maybe eventually...

I 1000% concur with you!

Everything about the Atlas is top-notice besides the sound. If only they would have spent more time revising their case to provide better sound quality, it would have been the best waterproof case period!

Here, 6thDay. I wish I had thought to make a vid for the Atlas. I returned it last week and I'm not about to go buy one to shoot a 1 minute video lol.

Otterbox Armor iP5 sound test

Great video of the sound test!

Some of the reasons why I didnt want the Armor was not really its size, but more or less the "gap" in between the back and top of the case, leading me to worry that eventually dust will make its way through.

Also, the left bottom cover where the headphone jack is located pinches on headphone plug, which also leads me to believe it will eventually prematurely tear the headphone wire.

Also, take a look at this for the iPhone 5:

Since you are an Armor owner, please give me an honest opinion of what your take is with some of the negatives this reviewer is saying?

FYI what's the name of the song? I could have swear I heard that back in the days ;)

I returned my Armor due to the size. I pretty much liked everything else. I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but, if a guy likes his case (Wildwillis), does he really need to defend it?
I love the way the Armor clasps. The sound is much better than the Atlas, both from the earpiece as well as the bottom speaker. I found the flaps on the bottom to be a little stiff, but in a re-assuring kind of way. I find the bottom cover flap on the Atlas to be a little worrisome...I hope it lasts with repeated openings for charging and earphones.

As far as the space between the two halves-dust is only going to possibly enter if and when you open your case. When I open my case, I always wipe everything down before re-assembling it. When the two halves are apart, cleaning the case is relatively simple.

If you're not interested in the case, move on.

I, personally, think both cases are close to ideal. If Otterbos made a similar case in a smaller size with the same features, I would buy it. If Incipio improved the sound quality of the Atlas, it would be a home run.

To each his own. IMHO, any more discussion regarding the Otterbox Armor should go in it's thread.

I agree on both points.

I'd like to see the Atlas in a few months once they(hopefully) get the kinks worked out. It's a solidly built case and I feel it would definitely protect the phone from everything advertised.
