"We now ship junk-" Tim Cook.

I can't imagine Apple doing that. Remember that Jobs set up an Apple "university" to ensure that the culture he created would remain. That was one of his chief concerns before he died. So unless Jobs' vision has been purposefully subverted (which I doubt), I'll trust that Apple knows what it's doing.

About that photo: I didn't realize Eddie Cue was so tall.

Still don't see the problem with this. Yes, it's a lot of money, but Apple's financial team isn't stupid. Clearly they can afford it, and see the price as fitting. I think they know better than a couple of forum users.

Cook's reasoning for not building a subscription music service is rather weak. We all know that a company as large as Apple does not build everything themselves. They acquire companies and expand upon the IP they acquire.

However creating a subscription music service should have been a priority at Apple. Digital music services is their expertise and they have been doing it for over a decade.

It will be interesting to see what Apple does with Beats. Hopefully there is an increase in quality with their hardware and we get a superior sounding Ive designed line of headphones.

“I’ve always known in my heart that Beats belonged with Apple,” said Jimmy Iovine.

Vegetables and fruits are usually good for you, but not always at the same time.

They said the same about Apple opening up retail stores.

...but also about Ping:

Nothing like a bunch of closeted racists.

This deal is exciting. It's going to be great for Apple.

I mean, the sound quality of their headphones is overrated, but that's not what I'm excited about. Jimmy Iovine being on board is going to be great news for iTunes.

And maybe they can work together to improve those overpriced headphones because they're beautiful, but a little too much bass for my liking.

Maybe it took $3 billion to get Iovine to finally take off his hat? I'm not sure if I am sick or mysteriously curious as to what Apple will do with this acquisition? Will we all be eating crow in 9-12 months? Could this be the beginning of iBeats and a new product line?

My guess is they'll put these guys to work on re-vamping iTunes which has been lacking in any innovation for some time now. They'll merge the Beats Streaming service into iTunes and be able to boast the best all round music app in the industry.

The headphones will probably be merged into the Apple product line and perhaps Ive will work on future models.

A name no one has mentioned here but I feel is worthy of a mention is Trent Reznor who is heavily involved with the Beats streaming service. He's been an Apple supporter for many years.. and IMHO he's a good asset to have when it comes to how music should be consumed and perhaps even created/edited. I'm not sure if he's stepping out as he wasn't mentioned in the press release but he would be a great creative asset for Apple. If Apple don't now go on to dedicate the next period of music consumption then something is wrong.

Rich, old white dudes, rich old black dudes, when it comes to what we want out of life, we're all the same.

Wow, there are lot of negative comments on here about this deal. I'd say, let's give it some time before we jump to all those conclusions.

This. Completely, Absolutely this.

Everyone seems to forget that people have a weird habit of growing up. Yeah, we get it: Dre, Cube, and for that matter, Queen Latifah were harsh. They were thugged, pissed off, and militant. In short, they were the product of their neighbourhood and upbringing.

But they grew up, realized that they have families to take care of, and that they can't continue that thug way of life. Case in point: look at Tupac.

So they bunkered down in their labs with pen and paper to figure out how to build themselves a brand to last.

Cube came up with a production company (you have to admit, the Friday series is funny stuff).

Latifah: Grammy and Oscar nominated, Jazz singer, own record label, Cover Girl model.

Dre: his own record label, Beats, and now this.

Everyone wants to harp on how bad of a deal this is, whether it's from the zealots not knowing what the true vision coming out of this is, or think they know better. We don't, so we should sit back, shut up, and let time and history tell us if this was a good deal or not. Either way, you can't take away the fact that Dre has come a long way from his street thug life from Compton. He's built himself a better life, and none of us can take that away from him.

BL.

Corporate Crimes!

Correction: Facebook paid nineteen billion for What'sApp.

Just because Facebook bought for Whatsapp for billions, doesn't make it right! I still think both these moves are huge blunders. These CEO's that don't live "in the real world", don't really have a grasp on the true value of money. They are throwing it around like its play money, when it fact, it's actually money that is owned by all of us stock holders. In other words, they are not spending money out of their own pocket, but money out of "OUR" pockets. Is Facebook basically saying they couldn't find an app building team to build a simple photo sharing app, so they had to spend BILLIONS to attain it?? And Apple cannot find anyone "in the real world" who they can hire to improve iTunes?!

This basically comes down to one filthy rich guy padding another filthy rich guy's pockets with enermous amounts of money. It's just like the rich club, where the CEO of one company hires a big wig from another compnay to be on his companies board of directors, so they ALL can pat each other on the back and hand over to each other OUR money!

Since Apple is keeping it as a separate brand my guess is they will be hands off on the hardware. Which is fine with me. Don't need Apple engineers and designers wasting their time on Beats headphones.

$3 billion that could have and should have gone for something worth a cr*p. I wonder what the price tag for Tesla was?

:( :( :( :(

What? Can I just… hold on a second… what? Tesla? Why in the ever-loving cheese-wads would Apple buy a car company? Tesla makes a great car, sure, but what would the Model S bring to my next consumer electronic device?

I don’t have anything approaching a business degree and I can see that buying Tesla would have been a terrible idea. Why would you even suggest that?

I just can't subscribe to streaming music. You pay for it, twice, and then you have nothing tangible in your hands. You can't store it, and take it with you.
You pay for it twice by paying the subscription, and also paying for the data to stream it if you're not on wifi.
Not a fan.
