I used to pretend to buy books when really it was beer. I wonder where all that money is going?

Maybe it's just me??
But I find it REALLY IRONIC that Dre is hanging out with a bunch of rich, old white dudes!! :D

lol. right, its like this for Ice Cube

Rich, old white dudes, rich old black dudes, when it comes to what we want out of life, we're all the same.

Not pertaining to the above, but as a general observation, there have been a lot of negative comments in these threads about this deal. I'd say, let's give it some time before we jump to all those conclusions.

Maybe it took $3 billion to get Iovine to finally take off his hat? I'm not sure if I am sick or mysteriously curious as to what Apple will do with this acquisition? Will we all be eating crow in 9-12 months? Could this be the beginning of iBeats and a new product line?

How long till the black community called Dre a sellout, uncle tom, etc?

You KNOW it's going to be coming.

They should be happy for him, everyone should. Good for him. Same with Jay Z and Sean Combs, etc. While I personally am not a fan of Hip Hop music, I love the fact that smart business people can pop up in any industry and do well. I have a lot more respect for people like that than someone like Justin Bieber.

the interesting thing you're all missing in this announcement is that the music streaming service offered by beats is available on other platforms (Android and Windows Phone). if apple keeps those apps it means apple now has music on non apple phones.

Tonight's interviews on Recode with Eddy, Craig and Jimmy should be interesting. Am sure Jimmy will stick to what he is allowed to say...I think.

I don't remember the last time an announcement was made of this caliber. You can't pull out the "we buy smaller companies from time to time" line now.

well it is a smaller company. they just paid way to much.

gosh, i just hope Apple knows what they are doing. I hope this leads to a hype in the stocks so that I can sell mine.

He said good not Bose. :p

I don't know. I never had Bose, but they have a history of innovation, and the noise cancelation technology is still generally regarded as the best in consumer headphones.

I think they are less controversial.

Apple has to have more planned than just expanded selling of Beats headphones in stores worldwide and putting the Beats music app on iOS devices.

I have Monster Beats that I use on the plane when I want to see a crappy movie played on the seat in front of me. I have PSB when I listen to lossless on my home iMac and Ultimate Ears when I listen to lossless on my travel MBP.

The quality difference is enormous, the price isn't. I know what quality can buy when you want to pay a lot of money for music listening.

Beats aren't in that category. Hence, they have no place at Apple imho.

I understand that argument and I agree the headphones are over rated but I don't think apple bought Beats for their hardware. I believe they bought it for their talent. Apple may end up improving the beats hardware while retaining the popular brand.

You do realize that Beats pays to have their products placed in these videos, don't you?

I know. It's called Product Placement. They seem very good at it, and that, along with every celebrity sporting a pair, is probably what drives their sales.
