I hear what you're saying, but the footage and detailed analysis of it will be available all over the net afterward. I just don't get why it's so important to see it live.

I'll look forward to following the coverage when I get home or if I have some down time at work. I know it depends on the nature of ones job, but as I said previously, while I could take a day off, I feel like it would be a disservice to people I work for and with.

It's like watching the Oscars, or the Grammys, or a sporting event. You miss the event of it by reading the 'specs' (who won) later. And, yes, you can watch it in its entirety later, but it's not quite the same.

These presentations are about the same length, and the analogy is a good one, I think. Some people can reasonably take the time to watch it, like they would some other event, some can't.

If you're not one of the ones that can't, or don't care to, that's fine. But it's a bit misplaced when people keep trying to say STOP LIKING THAT THING YOU LIKE.

I haven't told anyone to quell their enthusiasm, I've just explained why I personally find it a bit excessive.

I typically just have the video streaming on my phone at work and I just listen in unless they say something that causes me to want to look at the screen. I try to do work, but god knows the only things going through my thoughts are what they are talking about. Your guys hard earned tax dollars put to good use. ;)

Not for me.

As I live in Asia, the keynote will be shown live at 2 am in my country. Though I will be on holiday then (it's a week-long holiday for teachers during that time), I don't see the value of disrupting my sleep over this.

Plus, I have literally been bored to tears by the last 3 iPhone keynotes (4s, 5, 5s). Just boring spec-dumps that lacked the magic of Steve's iphone4 keynote. I will just wake up a little earlier the next morning and catch the stream off iTunes. ;)

Don't know. I won't be taking off from work, but I will wake up for it, because I don't work at 2am in the morning.

Hint. I don't live in the OP's timezone.

The keynote is really the place when I miss Jobs.
Tim Cook is too soporific, he talks slowly and doesn't show no passion.
Federighi is great on stage, but he'll cover only the iOS part of the presentation.
The most interesting part, the product(s) itself, will be presented by Phil Schiller and to be honest I'm not a big fan of Phil.

Anyway I'm watching it since it going to be at supper time here, I wouldn't wake up in the middle of the night just for a keynote

Haha oh gosh classic thread topic. I fondly remember making a similar topic a few years ago when Keynotes started becoming a national pass-time.

There was a larger chuck of people who were appalled because it was still a newly iconic thing. But generally turned out the same.

Nerd pride 4 ever!!!

I did take a few iPhone announcement days off in my single days. Since I have a family now and vacation days are so precious, I'll just catch a live blog on MacRumors or Engadget.

This thread is fascinating. Not so much by learning people will take off work, but the fact that some people are judging the people who are, and some of the people being judged are taking it very personally.

I'm not THAT big of an Apple fan (hubby is) so I'm not taking off work to watch the announcement (unlike hubby). I'll definitely be curious to see what goodies come out though!

I guess if that's your thing, but I was surprised to read that some people actually take off of work just to see an apple keynote. You can easily watch it whenever you want and it certainly doesn't warrant a dire need to take off. But who am I to judge you?

I might take a long lunch to live stream it. I will most likely take the day off to wait in line on launch day if there are no pre-orders.

I find it curious that people are so concerned with how others spend their free time.

Already had the day off for destiny, so I'll be putting it on the big screen if it's live streamed

Priorities right there.......

(not being sarcastic)

Yea, for game launches, you get home about 1-2 am after being at the store you have 2 options, sleep or play. If you get stuck playing......then you have another 2 options......go to work in Zombie mode or call in......

the choice is yours and yours alone.

Personally, just take lunch break during the keynote.

I'm with you here. I don't understand the hate for those who do take off the day?

But I definitely agree with those who have families and limited vacation days. I wouldn't burn a PTO day for a keynote. Just those of you who come on here and bitch about those who do call in.......just sounds like sour grapes if you ask me. You don't pay their bills so why voice such a negative opinion?

I won't be and I can't follow on my phone as phones are restricted once you get past security where I work.

However I look forward to having all the news waiting for me once I get home. I can just skip all the sales data and read about the actual products.
