They are NOTHING alike and you know it. The tone alone is miles apart.

Ask a marketing expert if those ads are the same and they'll laugh at you long and hard; that's how much they are dissimilar.

Strange, I see all those Android fans just come out of the woodwork on Apple forums ever single launch (and just before).

----------

Again, ask a marketing expert if that's true that they are the same if you dare; they will pointedly tell you that NO they aren'T the same at all. I'm a bit of tired of this trope when it doesn't match reality at all.

I'm a marketing expert and I concur that the tone makes them different. Many people actually loved the PC guy in the Mac ads and found them cute.

Bickering aside about what Apple may have done in the past with their ads, it is time for Samsung to abandon this method of advertising and instead focus on the benefits and features of their devices.

Their current campaign has run its course and now only appeals to those who already have Samsung devices and/or dislike Apple. That is to say, they are pandering to an audience they've already captured. Time to go hunt for new audiences.

And you = everyone? I'm Apple user since 2002/03 and I did not really like the ads back then, as many of my friends using Windows.

You might want to work on your reading comprehension, because I just stated opinions. Particularly because others want to over generalize and act like everyone was equally offended by those ads.

It seems this is the only way samsung stays in the news, and on the tech forums. I'm not going to keep talking about it because it's ridiculous. It's what they want... to remain relative by any means. I like competition, and welcome it. It keeps Apple honest and keeps them pushing forward. But there's a big difference between competition, and snarky, shady shenanigans.

I hope Motorola, or Nokia or Microsoft become bigger players in the industry just to quiet these guys a bit. But then again, maybe I prefer samsung stay on the same path they're on with stuff like this. Keep digging the hole.

I did not like them because I think you don't have to make fun of your competitor to advertise your own product, just build a quality product and let it speak for itself.

advertising is advertising.

In general - no matter how good - products are never going to JUST speak for themselves

I've never had a problem with my S4 and the camera app being slow, buggy or not taking amazing pictures. Even many rivaling my iPhone. I can't speak the the S5 however.

Yeah, I was on the fence with going with the next iPhone or the GN4. It all came down to if Apple would release a 5.5" iphone. If not, I was going to give the GN4 a try. Figured it doesn't have to be forever and if i don't like it in a year or two, I would just come back to Apple. Just glad that Apple did release the iP6+ so I don't have to worry about switching.

I hate android. I have both and android tab and iPad. Having them side by side. U clearly see the difference. Android is sooo user un-friendly. Sure it is as powerful, if not more than iOS. But I am sooo sick of older family members get sucker into buying Android phone cuz they are cheaper. Then every freaking meal that we eat together I am fixing their phones/ tablets. I would rather enjoy my time with my baby niece and/or play with the iPad with her (which btw, even she figure out how to play with it)

get a life Android / Samsung; Stop bragging how powerful your HW is when your UI SUCKS!

It's funny seeing Apple unconditional fans (an euphemism for fanboy) arguing. Sometimes I wonder if this is not a kind of patriotism, like Ford x Toyota or something. Why would you think Microsoft is a better competitor than Samsung? Why was Nokia a joke, but now it's on par with Apple's honor & elegance standards?

I think it's explained that now the Nokia's mobile division is an american company (Microsoft) just like Apple. Motorola was only recently acquired by Lenovo, so americans still preserve some affection for the brand, but sooner or later it will be considerd the new Samsung as they become more successful.

The people that I know who bought a Samsung bought it for 1 of 2 reasons.

1) They were practically giving them away at Costco
2) They thought bigger was better

Most, but not all, are already planning their switch to the iPhone.

I've always wanted Apple to make a phone between 4.5 and 5 inches, but I wasn't willing to move to Android to get it. It was never a killer feature for me.

I told myself that if I got all of the same from Apple this year and they not come out with something bigger, I was going to try Android for a year.

I could be wrong, but I don't think that they are trying to lure iPhone users to their Galaxy phones but rather keep their present customers who only wanted a larger screen from jumping ship and going to Apple. This being the case, I don't think that they are concerned about insulting iPhone users because the odds of them leaving aren't very great due to Apple's extremely high satisfaction numbers.

if you're correct thats really sad. Means they don't have confidence in their own product to switch customers. Apple, i'm sure, feels it can grab Samsung customers. If maintaining your current customer base is your business strategy then you've given up and are ready to close shop.

Erm, maybe it's you who should work on his/her(?) reading comprehension? Where do you read that someone stated that everyone was "equally offended by those ads"? At least the guy you replied to did not. The guy you replied to stated that we/you "should not pretend that the PC vs Mac ads were not as annoying and insulting to windows owners" too, he did not say "to all of them". So he was also not denying that there were windows users who maybe liked the ads.
Considering that, what sense does it have to reply to him with your "opinion" that "at the time of those ads running, [you were] a Windows user, and didn't own ANYTHING Apple, and yet [you] thought they were funny, because they talked about real problems that Windows users have to face.", if you did not want to disagree with his opinion that these ads were annoying to (extra for you: some[!] or better an undefined amount of) Windows owners as the Samsung ads are to (some or an undefined amount of) Apple users now?
So either you did not read what he said properly or wanted to generalize?

I'm truly confused on why this site keeps posting these. You're giving more ad time to Samsung. Who cares. Just ignore their garbage advertising. Almost as if MR is trolling it's own readers

I think its fun to watch Samsung try to prove its relevance.

I've never seen a company advertise by whining before.
Does Samsung really think this is going to impress anybody?
Seems desperate and kind of pathetic

What I meant is that you don't have to make an ad which explictly contrasts the shortcomings of your competitors product with the advantages of your own product, especially if it is in a way the other side will look "stupid". Why should that be neccessary? In my opinion that is just not very "classy" in general, although the Apple ads are more "classy" compared to the Samsung ones.
As I said, just concentrate on your own product and by that let it speak for itself.

CUT IT OUT PLEASE??? Enough!! The Mac vs. PC ads are not even the same whatsoever. Apple focused on the problems people were having with Windows and they were 100% spot on. Viruses, bloatware, spyware, multiple complicated versions of Windows, no easy out-of-the-box setups, slow downs from registry errors. Those were real issues.

Actually not once did Apple ever say "Microsoft makes a terrible operating system, come use our Macs". Nor did they say Microsoft's OS resembles ours and we came before them so use our Macs. Nor did Apple ever use Social Media posts as a way to embarrass or put down Microsoft.

On top of that, some of you guys need to stop with using the Mac vs. PC ads as a way to attack Apple in defense of Samsung. Makes no sense.
SAMSUNG is attacking Apple. Just because Apple did ads to sell their product over Microsoft's doesn't give Samsung the green light to attack. Samsung is NOT Microsoft so let it go.

Did you actually read what you wrote?

We never said "Microsoft makes a terrible operating system" but by god the Microsoft OS has the following issues: "Viruses, bloatware, spyware, multiple complicated versions of Windows, no easy out-of-the-box setups, slow downs from registry errors. " Again, don't misunderstand us, we are by no means whatsoever saying the OS is terrible. We are specifically NOT saying THAT!

Oh, and we also didn't use social media... but that was probably a side effect that it didn't really exist at the time .

I wish Samsung fans would do their homework before they think that Apple is being burned. Samsung internally ridiculed Apple for the original iPhone screen being too large.
Keep grasping at straws.

The ads are like rap battles for technology, so of course all the sides are taking pot shots at each other. I thought the ad was funny, and I have no intention of buying any Samsung product. Personally, I'm going to continue making fun of all the phablet lines. :D
