Time to wait for SwiftKey.

Whoa 6.9GB free space required to download on the iPad mini Retina? Might have to hold off while I figure out what to delete. Mine is only 16gb

iOS 8

Downloading iOS 8 on 5s iPhone - saying about 5 hours remaining - holy cow!

3:20 pm - Preparing update is about 80% - so far I'm close to the 2 hour mark.

Just wow. The iPhone 5 requires 4,7 GB to be free for the installation to continue. That hurts big time. Glad I'm going 64GB with iPhone 6.

Preparing update...
Download was painless for the first time in Apple update history.

These days are hilarious... I am north of San Francisco but if the wind shifts just right I swear I can smell the Apple servers down south smoking.

:D

Why are they still selling 16 GB versions of the newest iPhones and iPads at all? They know how much space is required to be free on the devices to install iOS updates. I suspect that next year, they will do what they should have done this time and make the starting capacity on the flagship devices 32 GB.

They WANT the entry level device to be inconvenient. They know very well that 32gb is the "sweet spot" (most people don't need 64gb).

But if they made the entry level 32gb, most people wouldn't pay the extra $100 or $200 for increased storage.

Bit off topic, but I have GM version on my iPod would I be able to do the next update through iTunes? or do I have to download updates off the internet from now on!

I would be ecstatic if this update solved my maps problem. I can't send directions to my iPhone. Sees my iMac fine in the maps program but never my phone (yes I've done tons of work on this signing out of iCloud on all devices etc.. it just won't work and I'm tired of wasting time on it... even though its something i would actually use)

Come on iOS8! solve it for me.

If I have a backup from this morning, is it safe to delete all my photos to make room for an OTA update? Should I just wait to get back to my Mac?

"Preparing update" definitely takes a while. I downloaded the 1.1 GB file to my 5s in about 4 minutes, which means I've been sitting on "Preparing update" for the past 30 minutes. In that time, the bar progressed about 75% of the way across.
