It looks like this may be resolved in 8.0.2. It was intermittent for me, so I'm not totally sure, but I've gotten a number of e-mails since updating with no double notifications.

Hey you're right. I just sent myself some emails from my gmail account on my mac and I didn't hear it. Yay!

iPhone 4s iOS 8.0.2

Running on an iPhone 4S with 8.0.2. and i still have this issue. Since i mainly use gmail i will switch to googles app to see how that goes (also because of the update to iOS 8 push email no longer functions)

--Update: with Gmail app i do not have the problem anymore (disabled iPhone mail app). Also push email is back. Too bad you lose the nice new mail features on the notifications :(

I updated to 8.0.2 last night and it didn't fix the echo.

I only get the Echo bug when my iPhone is locked. I have it set on silent, vibration, staccato. I switched to the quick (default) selection and still getting the echo when locked.

Well I updated to 8.0.2 this morning, and my first email notification was fine, no echo. I'm working, so I have to keep my phone on silent until 3pm ET. But before, even the vibration was echoed, yet so far this morning, it's not even echoing the vibration for email notification. We'll see.

I'll update this afternoon, after work, when I can leave my phone volume on. Crossing my fingers that this bug is fixed.

OK, so this is really interesting. I have two email accounts on my phone... my personal account and my work account. With iOS 8.0 I was getting double notifications on the work account, but not my personal account. So, after I installed iOS 8.0.2 I tested with a few emails to my work account and I didn't seem to be getting any double notifications, so I posted above and said that I thought the problem was resolved.

Even through this morning I've been getting emails to my work account with no double vibrations, so I was quite happy. But just a few minutes ago I got an email on my personal account and it did the whole double notification thing:(

So, it appears that it might be an account specific issue, or perhaps something that happens to one account when you have two email accounts on the phone (I wonder if you had three email accounts if you would get a triple notification for one).

For you guys who are experiencing this issue, do you have more than one email account enabled? And if so, does it only happen to one account?

I also have 2 private and 1 work email accounts. I don't know if it happened on one account only. I will have to switch back to iphone email to test it...

Thanks guys. I haven't had any more emails to validate but I'll be listening.

Just tested it. I have two emails accounts. One work exchange and one gmail. When I get an email from my work exchange account I get double notifications still with iOS 8.02.

For now I have turned off mail notification sounds.

Hopefully Apple fixes this.

Yeah not fixed in 8.0.2 - you need to send bug feedback to Apple (as I always do) so it gets on their list (apple.com/feedback)

I am experiencing this problem also. Echo is an interesting word to describe it. Basically, I keep my phone on default settings which are Staccato for messages and Quick for email. However, when my phone is on silent I get two buzzes from the lock screen. Every email sounds like an incoming message. With regards to actual sounds when the phone is not on silent, it seems to be fine. Also, this issue seems to be confined the the lock screen.

Currently on 8.0 on 128GB iPhone 6

It's not truly an echo but rather the same sound being played twice, one slightly behind the other which gives and echo effect.

As mentioned, I encourage everyone to report it to Apple.

In the grand scheme of things it's a minor bug annoyance but an annoyance nonetheless so the squeakier the wheel, the more likely it will get greased :D

I posted this in the other thread. My 5 has had the issue since 8.0. I am using my home brew tone. My wife's 5S does not do it however. We first attributed to the new case I got. It does it with it in and out of the case. Only on emails no other notifications do it. I have about 5 or 6 accounts running. It's only a double. Have not made a note of which account does it. Since my yahoo is my only push, but I have several of them, I would suspect it's them and not my gmail.

EDIT: ok. So it happened to me twice this morning. Both were yahoo accounts but different accounts. Just trying to add a few more data points.

I don't see anything about this in the iOS 8.1 notes so likely won't see it addressed there :(
