My mail ding happens about a minute after the email appears. I'm thinking, "yeah, yeah I know…"

Unfortunately I can confirm that this is still an issue in 8.1 beta 1. I've filed a bug report with Apple for the beta.

Is there a way to make my own email-alert tone? I have a sound that I used to have on my old Blackberry that I would like to use on here, but I'm not sure how to do that.

Yes, you can create your own ringtones/tones in iTunes and import them to your devices.

Wanted to throw this out there.

I was in safari and a notification came in for an email. It had the echo with it. I swiped up to dismiss it and it finished the tone with no echo. I'm wondering if it's tied to a tone for the email in general then it's generating a second tone beneath for notifications. I'm going to turn off banners and leave it on home screen. If it still does it I am going to turn off visual notifications all together and see what happens.

EDIT: I just got another email with banners turned off and I got an echo, but they were much further apart this time. Moving on to turning off more. I will update this post as soon as I know more.

EDIT: Turned off show on lock screen, same thing. Will report back soon. One thing I did notice about these emails this morning is they are old emails. Some a few minutes, others hours. Don't know if that's a factor.

I wanted to add that I'm experiencing this issue as well and have submitted it to Apple.

It's the definition of a first-world problem, but I do hope they address it soon! I'm surprised more people haven't noticed it though.

Seeing this too

Curious if there's anyone who experiences this issue that only has one email account attached to their phone. Common thread I'm seeing here is that it's affecting people using multiple email accounts.

I have only one iCloud email account and I get the echo. There is a Gmail account, but it's turned off.

Came to the forums specifically searching for this issue. Seems to be a widespread issue - I wonder if it's a common problem but many people just don't notice it.

Hopefully Apple will take care of it soon.

Not sure if this helps. But here's what my phone's log file is generating during a "double" alert. It's an iPhone 6+ running 8.0.2. Keep in mind, this is all for ONE email (and happens within 4 milliseconds):

Oct 4 13:20:53 MobileMail[1117] <Warning>: Attempting to badge the application icon but haven't received permission from the user to badge the application
Oct 4 13:20:49 BTLEServer[127] <Notice>: (Note ) Removed "Email" notification #145 (✗) from com.apple.mobilemail

Oct 4 13:20:49 BTLEServer[127] <Notice>: (Note ) Added "Email" notification #150 (✗) from com.apple.mobilemail

Worth mentioning...
- My badges are turned ON (first message is wrong?)
- Assuming the BTLEServer is related to my Pebble watch
- When Bluetooth is turned OFF, I only get the first error (related to badges)

Should be mentioned that it's not just the sound, but the vibration as well. It's super inconsistent, and receiving mail on silent sometimes sounds like it's a text instead. I don't understand this weird bug, since I can't replicate it on demand....

I was wondering why my iPhone 6 and iPad sounded different when actually receiving emails when they were both set to the simple Note sound for new emails.

I hope this gets fixed in 8.1 it's rather annoying.

I think I fixed the double ding problem.

There are TWO places to set a Mail tone. Turn one of them off (silent) and keep the other one on.

Check it out.

1. Go into Sounds>New Mail and check NONE
2. Go into Notifications>Mail>Notification Sound and set it to the sound of your choice.

Now I'm getting just a single DING.

Let me know if it works for you guys!

This worked for me. My main frustration was the double vibration and this fixed that as well. Unacceptable by apple. This doesn't even make sense...why have two locations to set the sound?

This does not work for me. It has slowed down doing the "doubles" mostly but occasionally it still does it.

Seems sporadic for me on lock screen, but fine otherwise. Hmmm...
