from AI

ok....

MacBook Pro updates within the next week and a half: MA609LL/A and MA610LL/A.

Apple's two existing 15-inch MacBook Pro retail configurations carry manufacturer part numbers MA600LL/A and MA601LL/A. On the other hand, the 17-inch MacBook Pro bears a completely different part number in MA092LL/A.

this is from AI earlier today, can someone decode this please?

AI is wrong. Those part numbers they listed are part numbers used by Apple Retail stores to show it has a Glossy display, instead of a matte one. That's the only difference...

Anyone ansy about buying a week one build of a new machine?

I'm thinking that this machine will really be a second revision of the Intel-based MBP, one where they have spent time getting the bugs worked out...at least we can hope.

Either way, when they're released, it's going to be like I'm buying concert tickets the way I work that store's website ;)

glossy screens

assuming the mmbp comes out today, next week, or dare i say mwsf, what do you guys think about the glossy/non-glossy screens? ive had limited experience with glossy screens, but those ive talked to have generally liked them. how are apple's glossy screens? what would you recommend in this situation?

all the stores are down

Go 'head and put 'em up
Put your macbooks where I can see 'em
Put your macbooks where I can see 'em

I utterly hate them. From MY experience, and I do hope other members add their opinions, I cannot stand the constant dodging of my own reflection.

From my work experience, if you absolutely need to have super-high colour correct monitor for colour/contrast evaluation, then yeah, glossy is the way. 99% of people who vouch glossy dont understant that it is useless unless you calibrate you monitor's profile for accurate colour representation, and for that you need a spectrophotometer plus really good calibration software (say Gretag-Macbeth, X-Rite, etc) PLUS someone who actually KNOWS what they are doing PLUS thar colour correction is very VERY industry-specific orientated. There are many colour spaces, many colour platforms.

Again, this is ONE point I am very well aquainted with.

Spanish and Portuguese stores are down.

mbps! :D

Yeeps ! I REALLY hope that this is finally it! If not, well have a good hearty laugh at my expense.

edit: Meant to say that the Canadian site is down, too.

I think they are taking down the stores to release new, all-fancy colored earplugs for the ipods!

Like a kid...

On Christmas eve!

This is so nerve wrecking...this has to be MBPs, the entire store hasn't been down like this for quite a while.
