As I've been reading through, I've noticed something a lot of people have been saying: "The touchscreen iPod is going to be expensive." Expensive? What? Let's step back for a moment and look at this.
First off, why has Apple been so successful in selling the iPod? Design, technology, ease of use, and so on and so forth. But there is one thing that has made Apple extremely successful. That is pricing. Have we all forgotten the way of Apple?
If you look at past iPod models, they haven't been expensive at all (with the exception of the iPod photo, at least.) As someone posted on this thread before, pricing is what makes Apple undercut the competition. This is indeed true. Consumers aren't going to buy a product that is garbage, but they're not going to buy an expensive toy, either. Apple doesn't risk quality or price.
Next is the argument of Wi-Fi making the price go up. Although Wi-Fi may increase price some, it's not going to make a very substansial impact. But if there's one thing that makes me mad, it's the fact that people think the new iPod will cut into iPhone sales if it's has multi-touch and Wi-Fi. Apple doesn't need to price the new iPod high just so it won't "cut into sales." They also know that people won't buy their 'Pods if they're priced too high. PHONE SALES AND MEDIA SALES ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS, PEOPLE. Unless you are a complete idiot, you aren't going to buy an iPhone for it's iPod features. That's dump. If people want a quality phone, they buy the iPhone. If they want a quality music player, they buy the iPod. 'Nuff said.
And at that, I think people need to step back and look at the big picture. Just becuase a product is "nice" or "technologic" doesn't mean it has to be priced higher. Look at Macs, they are better than any PC on the market, but they are priced very competitively. Apple is above all of that, folks.
So with that said, it's time to rethink iPod pricing and end wacko theories, too. We're all excited, but that doesn't mean to make garbage speculation.
Cheers.
