Really?? I always had that problem, I mean dimming the screen after restart no matter what I change in system preferences. Not only in 10.5 but 10.4 as well. And not only on one computer.
So maybe you think about something else???

Just did the software update after installing 10.5.1 and there is now a graphics firmware update for the Aluminum iMac (1.2.1). Hopefully this will fix issues due to the ATI 2600HD in the new iMacs.

i'd calm down if the $129 I wasted worked on my top of the line mac pro
and it doesnt.putting aside the asinine removal of dock hierarchal folders and simple options to reduce the ugly translucent menu bar,my system is still not usable.clean install and all
my x1900 high end graphics card puts lines all over the screen in leopard,if you think its just me and i'm blowing it out of proportion just look at apple discussions for samples. that and giant yellow and purple shapes that appear all over the screen at random.tiger never did this and hasnt done it since i went back so it is NOT a hardware issue.and no it is not fixed in 10.5.1,i just tried.
so a huge issue like this is just ignored and passed over by :apple: even though it is affecting thousands of mac pro high end customers majorily?! thats not what i'd call an update that should have been never needed

and back to the missing aka REMOVED 'enhanced' features in leopard like the stacks, menu bar, view options staying set and being stable, and a thousand other things ---- yes i am mad as hell at that. even the stacks feature that they demoed to the world in the public WWDC video showed them working MUCH differently.so much differently that it is another feature entirely. leopard is so half-as@ it isnt even funny so yes i have the right to be mad

go buy a vista pc.

That installer (on the blue background) took forever on my MacBook, and actually had me worried for a little while... oh and the restart was really slow, too...

But I just let it be and when it finally rebootes, 10.5.1 seems very nice. :)

Yes it took forever - I thought I'd bricked my MBP

Unfortunately, it looks like the lack of menu bar translucence isn't a bug, after all.

The determinant for menu bar translucence is GPU support for Quartz GL. The GeForce FX 5200 does not support that, so no translucent menu bar.

You can verify this, using Quartz Debug: "Quartz GL Not Supported" is grayed out and in place of "Enable Quartz GL," which you'll find with GPUs that can support it.

It still seems rather odd to me, considering that Quartz GL is Quartz 2D Extreme renamed, the minimum requirements for which are a Radeon 9600 or better, or a *GeForce FX* or better, IIRC.
If this is true then why is a 12" PB capable of doing the exact same effect in menu backgrounds? How come I can fill half the screen with a blurry transparant menu, but not the top 5% of the screen with a menu bar using the same effect, which's background is static?

EDIT: I'd say that I'm sure some bug in the GeForce * 5200 card is to blame, but I can't imagine its not easy for Apple to work around it. That said, its not really a big deal and there are bigger things to fix/add.

"Snappier"

I keep reading and a post here and there says that X feature is snappier. I can't get the "Inconceivable!" "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." dialog from my head. :)

Ahhhh i see. I thought you meant the screen would just go blank...yeah...i've noticed that too.

I got that as well. Fingers crossed this solves the problems. I am hoping.

Is it just me or does Safari feel slightly snappier?

Damn still no transparent menu bar on 12" powerbooks.

Maybe I should switch back to using my 12" PowerBook. I can't figure out how to get back the beautiful Tiger Menu bar. Not the menus mind you, just the menu bar. The leopard menus look awesome, except for the menu bar.

It's obviously not going to happen to everyone...

I haven't had the first two issues ever, but I've had my Expose preferences reset multiple times on multiple machines.

I imagine they are working down a list of bugs like any developer does, those that affect the operation of the OS for the greatest audience will get dealt with first.

I have a laundry list as well, but I am just glad to finally have a 24" iMac that isn't freezing! :)

not sure if this has been mentioned by anyone else but i went to update and also got a graphics update for my 24"imac

Have you ever seen any OS or major software product released that didn't have some bugs? Software is created by humans and humans aren't perfect. Overall, the system works quite well, and Apple is responding fairly quickly to issues.

As for Vista, it costs a lot more than $129 and if you don't like it you can go back to XP or wait another 5 years for Vista 2 or whatever they call their next monstrosity

I said it before ill say it again.

Leopard is vista but done the mac way.

What a disappointment overall.

I do not have and never have had these problems either.

Hmm, when will we be able to use Time Machine via an Airport Extreme drive without using the bootleg workaround??

That was fast...

I hope it fixes those sleep problems I've been having with my MBP, even though it doesn't say it does.

iMac update as well?!

Just did another update check after 10.5.1...

Nice!
