Nevermind, I figured out how to restore it with this 2.0 software, but after the 2.0 is installed and I plug it into iTunes i just get the apple sign on my iphone screen along with the loading symbol, also it vibrates occasionally.....

Can you please post the detail procedure?

Thanks

Ugh, okay so this is what I've done so far:

1) Downloaded the firmware (iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw). It downloaded as a zip file, and then proceeded to auto-unzip, so I had a folder -- iPhone1,2_2.

2) Tried Option-Clicking, to install on iTunes, couldn't find the ipsw file.

3) Read up that I needed to zip the folder back to a zip, and then rename an ispw.

4) Tried re-zipping the folder into iPhone1,2_2.ipsw and then iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ispw.

5) iTunes would not update from either ispw file.

6) Tried restoring directly to the file. Restore broke.

7) Reset the computer, disconnected/reconnected iPhone. Tried restoring again. Nope.

8) So I just restored the phone back to 1.1.4. Everything's as I last synced it last night (lost a couple texts, but not a big deal).

Any suggestions?

Just to update, I downloaded it again with Firefox, so it didn't download as a zip. It updated perfectly.

I see the same thing.

not to be a doom-bringer, but I think you bricked it.

Of course you can't format the phone either.... if it's legit (ie, not jailbroken or unlocked), contact Apple - you and the other guy who had the problem.

worked for me (instructions) mac

ATT AUTHORIZED PHONE ONLY
It wouldn't work for me re-zipping had to download it straight from apple i think the checksum gets changed.
change safari prefs
general 'open safe files' UNCHECKED
save file to desktop.
download file
iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw.zip changed to iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw
choose to keep .ipsw when warned about extention
launch itunes 7.7 SYNC YOUR IPHONE!
after sync
select iphone option+click update button
this opens file browser, browse to desktop and choose iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw
it takes quite a while 5-6 mins on "preparing to update..."
total wait time is about 12-15 mins....
Mine works great, i can't believe how nice the exchange client works!

Folks, iPhone 3G shares a common code library with the classic iPhone for v2.0 of the firmware. However, having said that, 5A347 was designed as an internal build to be used only with 3G development iPhone units and does not include several of the code modules required to successfully run on a classic iPhone.

Build 347 is nearly certain to encounter difficulties when installed on a classic iPhone due, in part, to the reasons mentioned above. I am not prepared to say it's dangerous to install 5A347 on a classic iPhone, but it's definitely not a tested or supported firmware version for anything other than development edition 3G iPhones.

I call BS.

I had 5a345 that was given to the developers of either hardware model and it worked fine. I doubt they would strip parts on a later build just to make it more specific for the 3g version.

Confused

After I update to 2.0 and i restore from my backup it won't load past the initial apple screen on my iphone, the loading wheel just keeps spinning and eventually stops completely. I've tried to restore a few times now, nothing. Also, when plugged into my computer, the computer recognizes it can sync music.

Just to update, I downloaded it again with Firefox, so it didn't download as a zip. It updated perfectly.

Hello NewSc2,

i can not get it back to 1.1.4 , it either coan not connect to the resource or gives me error 20,
any help out there would be appreciated!

I just want to get it back to version 1.1.4 (Was a mistake to get the 2.0 to early)

Thank you

I looked in my trash found it renamed it to .ispw now everything is working great. My phone was not unlocked though.

I went from pretty quick EDGE speeds in 1.1.4 to this in 2.0:

photo.jpg

I think that might be an ATT issue, not the 2.0 firmware.
I just did the same test and got 0.12 Mbps (116 kbps.)
This is on my 1.1.4 iPhone that hasn't been connected to iTunes for a few days now.
Also, during lunch a few hours ago, I pulled out my iPhone and noticed it saying "No Service." I didn't think much of it because a quick reboot fixed it. But sounds indicative of AT&T issues.

Then again, testmyiphone says that the average EDGE speed is only 165.81 kbps, not a whole lot more than it is now...

I don't consider myself a genius by any stretch of the imagination, but what amazes me most about this thread is how many people bricked their iPhones simply by NOT READING THE VERY SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS and/or even reading any of the warnings from, what now, maybe 35 pages of posts!?!?!

Truly unbelievable. Some of these people just deserve to own a brick, sorry.

I guess it's a testament to today's society in some way, I dunno. :(

And yes, my iPhone IS running the 2.0 software and everything is fine.
I just read every single warning ahead of time so I didn't trip over my own foot doing this and it worked out great.

I sometimes wonder how many people here I could entice to jump off a bridge with me (as my mother always used to say when i was a kid) :D

I'm having the same issue. I've tried all I know to try. I restarted computer, and iTunes and iPhone as well, but nothing will work with the new 2.0 upgrade.

Also, the old 1.1.4 update doesn't work either. It starts dowloading, gets about 20 percent done, and then says something about my iPhone having a firmware corruption, and stops the download.

I also kinda just want my iPhone back to it's old state.

Any suggestions? Thanks ahead of time.

Do you have iTunes 7.7?

Basically, when I tried updating with the botched 2.0 firmware, it kept giving me an error message, so I tried restoring with the botched 2.0 firmware, and then the "plug to iTunes" graphic showed up on my iPhone, and when I plugged it into iTunes, iTunes would tell me that my phone was in firmware restore mode (or something like that, firmware archive, etc.).

I just clicked "restore" from there. (no option-clicking or anything). And it restored back to 1.1.4. From there I option-clicked and downloaded the correct firmware 2.0 (using Firefox), and that worked.

Be sure to sync your phone if you find yourself with an updated phone to back up all your contacts.

You might need to restart your computer for some things to update correctly.

EDIT: I didn't need to download the 1.1.4 firmware anywhere. iTunes should automatically have it.

Anyone Else Experiencing Battery Drain?

Exchange Activesync is working great, but I'm down to 40% battery after about 5 hours (it was down about 10% when I did the install five hours ago). Only a few phone calls and total of 10-15 minutes with Texas Hold'em and NYT software. Granted this is iPhone I and the "unofficial" downloaded 2.0, but that is a bit on the scary side.

What are others seeing?

Really? if I was someone in Apple then this would be my thought process: "Do I really think that people are stupid enough find an unidentified link in an XML file, assume that its an update for 1 Gen phones, and actually download and install it?? "

Apple knows fully well there are hackers and breakers all over the world. There is no way they want to screw up the launch of the iPhone 3G by having people get ahold of a file that will brick their iPhone..

And besides that Apple is quit good at making sure a firmware update works on what it's supposed to work on or not work at all.

If this version wasn't designed for the classic iPhone it simply would not install as smoothly as it does.

hints...

the unknown error 5 is if you have not updated to iTunes 7.7 :)

the unknown error 1064 is if your baseband is not correct.

When I download it I get this, where's the .ispw file that I need to use?

Question?

I was just wondering, for those of us who have the 2.0 software, when we sync our phones tomorrow when the update is officially released, will our iPhones brick?

Go figure, there's almost 40 pages of the most impatient people on the planet trying to get the 2.0 firmware on their iPhones, all the while b*tching and moaning about jailbreaks and stuff not working.

What's 24 hours, honestly? Give it a rest. Congrats, you found the firmware before you were supposed to. Wow, it's causing problems! REALLY? This is one of the most pathetic threads I've ever seen on here. But, this does happen every single time Apple releases something new.

When I download it I get this, where's the .ispw file that I need to use?

Download it using Firefox or turn off "automatically open files" from Safari. Either way you need to re-dl it. I tried re-zipping that file and changing it to ispw, but it kinda botched my iPhone install. Flip back a few pages to see my results (I have a 2.0 iPhone now, works fine).

Thank you,

i tried it all different computers etc! Restart, Connect and force restore etc!!!!! No Luck, all the same error!
All the same, it will not let me downgrade back to 1.1.4, lets just hope that when the real update is out it will detect it and over write my mistake ;)

Thank you again

Sorry if this has been asked and answered...

But, does anyone know when the new firmware for the iPod Touch will be available as well as the software we're forced to buy?

Anyone who's trying to go back to 1.1.4 tried using itunes 7.6 instead of 7.7? I have no reason to believe it would work, just a thought, if you've exhausted all other options.

I think you're the impatient one here. Relax.

The rest of us come onto MacRumors to find the latest news on anything Apple. New MBPs, new displays, new everything. We're impatient people. We can't even wait until Apple officially announces anything. We need the latest scoop and the latest rumors on the latest iPod USB cable.
