Exchange Activesync is working great, but I'm down to 40% battery after about 5 hours (it was down about 10% when I did the install five hours ago). Only a few phone calls and total of 10-15 minutes with Texas Hold'em and NYT software. Granted this is iPhone I and the "unofficial" downloaded 2.0, but that is a bit on the scary side.

What are others seeing?

I'm seeing the same rapid battery drain here. The previous beta build did not exhibit this issue. I'm starting to hope this isn't the final release.

Do you have iTunes 7.7?

Basically, when I tried updating with the botched 2.0 firmware

Sorry, I'm pretty sure there would never be such a thing on Apple servers as "botched 2.0 firmware". There is only botched USAGE of 2.0 firmware! HAha!

it's just like guns, guns don't kill people, PEOPLE kill people!

Similarly, PEOPLE botch iPhone 2.0 installs and BRICK iPhones
NOT the 2.0 update!

Update worked fine for me... phone was jailbroken (yes, with ZiPhone for you haters), but not unlocked.
Took about 20 minutes. Quicky restore of my contacts and such and it's good to go.
Not rocket science folks.

So I downloaded followed all the instruction.

I have iPhone 2.0 on my iPhone. Not a single problem with doing anything I wanted. I got my exchange mail setup and its rocking with my work. This is like the greatest day of my life, I don't have to worry about not getting emails on time from my work.

Just keep in mind does take a while, go make some coffee or do something while you wait.

Anyone who's trying to go back to 1.1.4 tried using itunes 7.6 instead of 7.7? I have no reason to believe it would work, just a thought, if you've exhausted all other options.

That's a good thought. I haven't tried that, but I believe I will.

On a positive note, the 1.1.4 download actually is fully downloading this time (I wrote in a previous post that it would stop 20% of the way through, stating a corrupted firmware), so hopefully things will work this time.

If not, I'll try the 7.6 version and see if that will work.

My iPhone will not restore from my previous backup without having issues, before I try to restore it it works great, but when i restore it from my backup to get all my contacts, sms, etc. i get the loading symbol and the phone vibrates twice every minute or so. Any ideas?

Upgrade From Beta

I was looking through the thread and didn't see anyone talking about it. Has anyone upgraded to this final version from one of the previous betas from the developer program? Did you have any problems and did you do it through iTunes or Xcode?

Thanks for any help.
Josh

Slow backups in 2.0

I'll admit, I haven't read all 880 posts.

Is anyone else who successfully installed 2.0 having very slow syncs. Specifically a long 5-10 minute 'back up' period. This is happening everytime I sync.

When the phone is off the cradle, 2.0 works fantastic.

If I previously unlocked my iPhone and then restored it without unlocking, is it still considered "unlocked?"

A couple days ago I was having odd issues with mine, and a Mac Genius suggested restoring the firmware without loading the backup back on. This eliminates any issues the backup may have been carrying over. You will only loose things like settings, preferences, and webclips. Your Contacts, calendar, music, etc will be fine after doing a regular sync. This was all with the 1.4 firmware of course. When I updated to 2.0 everything went smoothly. Good luck!

I think Apple were aware of the battery drain which is why they greatly improved the battery life on the iPhone 3G.

Update deleted my phone!!

I updated and before I did, I synced my phone with iTunes.
After I updated my phone got erased of all my contacts, email accounts, everything!

I synced again and it didnt update the phone with anything.

What do I do, should I try a restore, is everything lost???

Do you have iTunes 7.7?

Basically, when I tried updating with the botched 2.0 firmware, it kept giving me an error message, so I tried restoring with the botched 2.0 firmware, and then the "plug to iTunes" graphic showed up on my iPhone, and when I plugged it into iTunes, iTunes would tell me that my phone was in firmware restore mode (or something like that, firmware archive, etc.).

I just clicked "restore" from there. (no option-clicking or anything). And it restored back to 1.1.4. From there I option-clicked and downloaded the correct firmware 2.0 (using Firefox), and that worked.

Be sure to sync your phone if you find yourself with an updated phone to back up all your contacts.

You might need to restart your computer for some things to update correctly.

EDIT: I didn't need to download the 1.1.4 firmware anywhere. iTunes should automatically have it.

Wait, so you are saying you were able to go from 2.0 to 1.1.4 ? This is odd, since no one has been able to do that as yet.

Did you have to re-activate after installing 2.0 ??

Upgrading from ZiPhone

I have read a lot of these, with a lot of people with Jailbrocken iPhones like I have.

ZiPhone with firmware 1.1.4.

I went back into ZiPhone and did a restore in it.
Opened iTunes 7.7 and did a Restore back to factory settings with no issue.

I have downloaded the posted firmware but am yet to install it.

But the process is so simple, just take some time in doing it.

And of course your iPhone will not be unlocked after you update the firmware, they never have been you will have to wait for the Dev team to fix that for us.

Again, I ask - did you have to mess with activation after restoring?

I was just looking for a post like this. Very slow back-ups. After using Apple Remote.app it went to shutdown once, now it works fine. Hmm...

How fast till 2.01 comes out?

Activation

Again, I ask - did you have to mess with activation after restoring?

iTunes automatically did the activation for me within a second or so. I did not have to touch it..

iTunes backed up my phone so when i did the restore I lost nothing. But from what I can see you have to run the restore from ZiPhone first before the restore in iTunes as ZiPhone repatches it.

I did the update with no real problems.

I was so anxious, that I didn't update iTunes, Mac OSX or even backup/sync the phone before jumping in to install the update. I was greeted with the "UNABLE TO INSTALL UPDATE" at this time message, and my iPhone was in a limbo state. I installed the 7.7 update, Mac OSX update and rebooted. iTunes came up and said that the iPhone needed to be restored.

So, I option-clicked RESTORE, chose the new version, and it applied in less than 10 minutes. It then asked if I wanted to restore from my back up as of 7/7, and bingo = iPhone 2.0 with all of my contacts/email/etc. perfectly in place.

Installed a bunch of apps and now I'm installing more - it's addictive.

The REMOTE application is simply AWESOME with AppleTV. You can even start a movie playing!

Re-Activating

I updated from 1.1.4 ZiPhone and now iTunes is asking me to activate again. How can I sign up the same iPhone that was working on AT&T just this morning.

I have the same issue -- going to wait and see what solutions arise. I don't have an iPhone plan was just using my regular data plan (with ATT) on my iphone the past few months.

Thanks for the info too Rick.

All of these problems could have been solved if you just waited for the 'official'' release
