I deleted two events from online iCal but they're still in the desktop iCal. Am I supposed to do something??? I can access all the online apps, but can't access my account information; it times out. Still nothing in Software Update.

Push calendar is still not working for me. To add to that, I sent myself a test email from my Gmail account to my MobileMe account and while it did appear in both the web version and my phone, I didn't receive the little notification icon on the Mail application icon on the iPhone.

48hrs Steve and co would rather forget?

I fully sympathise with those who have been disappointed by the launch of the iPhone 3G and MobileMe, what with the various technical problems in purchase and activation. The last 48hrs seem to have been a torrid time for Apple.

I certainly hope that we get some kind of "official" apology and explanation as to what has happened (iPhone and MobileMe). I work at an airport and the worse thing you can do to people is not to give them any information. Even if you can't give details, something is better than nothing at all, as long as it's the truth.

I got the feeling that there was very little if anything coming from Apple. What people found out they seem to find out from their own efforts.

The problem with a company that is held in high esteem by their customers, is that when they get it right the praise floods in.
But when they get it wrong? Well, hell has no fury like an Apple fan pi**ed off!

Lets see if Steve can turn a PR disaster into some kind of triumph.
Every time I close my eyes I don't want to see the guys in Redmond rubbing their hands in glee.

I exported back ups of my Bookmarks, Calendar App database and Contacts just in case - but did not get any duplicates. Just be sure when you hit sync in System Preferences that if it asks to merge your data say no and choose replace...

Thanks, I very nervously did this and all seems to have gone well. I'm impressed with the calendar so far.

Calendar event notifications seem to work for me - assuming you mean the alarms you can set on events - I just got one I set up last night via MobileMe when it was up for 15 minutes.

Odd... not working for me. In fact, there isn't even the option to create it when I am in Calendar via the web.

Just got off the phone with Apple support. MobileMe is not working, or at least not working properly. For those that are able to login and work with the web apps, good luck. Now I'm on the phone waiting for iPhone support, but the messages indicate this wait is going to be a long one.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again... this is an absolute failure for Apple. People can stop with the "it's still in a transitional period" or the "there were no promises made by Apple on when it would be working" junk. MobileMe doesn't work, and it's very clear that Apple can't keep it working, in a stable manner, for any great period of time. It might work properly sometime in the future, but it doesn't work now like it is supposed to.

Add to that the warnings that updating the iPhone might lead to disaster remind me of the launch one year ago. What a mess. What a joke.

There are warnings and news articles popping up in several locations that already blast Apple for this fiasco. They apparently didn't learn anything from last year, it seems.

www.mac.com is finished you should use www.me.com from now on

hmmm, I'll wait until I am off work and have a real computer in front of me.

Internet Explorer 7 is not fully supported
Internet Explorer 7 has known compatibility issues with modern web standards which affect Web 2.0 applications such as MobileMe.

You can use Internet Explorer 7, but you will not have access to all MobileMe features and will experience slower performance.

For the best MobileMe experience, please use Firefox 3 or Safari 3.

Get Firefox Get Safari Continue

Well, atleast the truth is there. I never knew IE7 to work with web standards.....

--------------------------------------------------------------

On a side note, my Windows xp work computer just threw up on the last update MS pushed. today has been horrible.

I installed the 1.1 update for MobileMe through Software Update. Now the IMAP server inside Mail on my Mac is "mail.mac.com". If I try to change it in "mail.me.com" it will immediately return "mail.mac.com"...

I setup my contacts to sync with Gmail, again I only get updates if I do a manual sync, still no push.. not even sure if auto sync works either.

It seems the web apps all work but the 'cloud' aint talking to anything yet!

Edit: And actually even the syncing isn't working correctly, I added a contact in MobileMe and in Gmail, did a manual sync and MobileMe got the new contact from Gmail but Gmail didn't get the new contact from MobileMe. Also even though it tells me it's syncing calendars, my outlook calendar doesn't sync

Yeah I just tried it online again and sure enough there is no option now... weird...

I wonder if there are just going to be a lot of features that aren't actually online that are only available using Apple's native applications. For example, not being able to create notifications (or receive them?) via the website. Another example: in testing aspects of the contacts portion of the website I've found there is no control over what portion of a photo is used when it is being attached to a contact. You either crop it in Photoshop or iPhoto, take what you get, or have to use Address Book.

Both omissions are, in my opinion, especially lame considering the ability to do the two examples I've listed have been available in gmail's free service for at least a year.

I'm not sure if this has been asked, but when can we get the update in software updater so everything switches to the mobileme icon? It seems some have it. Anyone have any ideas when that will show in the updater?

Thanks

Web Galleries Dead Too?

I'm not even considering buying an iPhone until my current verizon plan expires in 3 months;by then it should be stabilized :). But I have other problems.

I've been trying to send an email announcement for a web gallery to friends and family for two days now and I can't. I tried software updates and it says my Mac is up to date. I don't have the MobileMe icon... still have the .Mac icon but I can't use .Mac. Am I doing something wrong or should I be installing something that I'm not aware of?

I realize it all sounds nice, but I think Apple bit off more than they can chew with the launch of the 3G and MobileMe. One or the other should have preceeded the other, and a global launch for PR's sake is extremely dumb.

Those maroons at MS are probably all giddy :(.

For those of you who have used the IMAP feature for Gmail on their iPhones:

What do your settings look like on the 3g now? IMAP seems to be working more like POP3 for me now. My computer and my iPhone say two different things between what's read and what's unread when I try and test it.

I guess Apple may have tried to help by changing the setting options in the Mail app. However, it could also be viewed as an attempt to sabotage Gmail's IMAP setting to appear inoperable thus increasing appeal for mobileme. Unfortunately, neither are working for me at the moment. :(

So should I be seeing some sort of software update on my Mac for MobileMe? I downloaded iTunes 7.7. Just wondering if MobileMe needs to sync with iCal on my computer...

And on a different note, still no WYSIWYG (fonts/colors/sizing) for the online mail app?! What about the ability to copy and paste in WYSIWYG-style for online clips you want to include in messages? Would be nice (and yes, Gmail does it for free... sorry for those who are sick of hearing that).

Thanks for any insight.

I know MobileMe isn't fully functional yet, but I'm curious if anyone is getting the same symptoms as I am. When I go to www.me.com, it takes me straight to http://www.me.com/idisk/en/ and nothing on the page is clickable. I can't click any icon to go to mail, address book, logout, etc. Just curious if these are the same symptoms others are having.

Well spotted. I installed the first Mobileme updater and it changed the incoming mail server to mail.me.com but still left the outgoing server as mail.mac.com. I thought when they released 1.1 it would change the outgoing server to me, but it seems like they've had to revert back to mail.mac.com for both. That seems quite serious, but maybe they have taken the server offline to try and make it work. If so there'll probably be another MobileMe updater to change all the mail servers back to mail.me.com.

reset safari, it sounds like you have a bad cache of that page.

My guess is once they get MM stabilized and running over time they will add little features users request as well as a planned upgrade path that they probably already have in place. I hope anyway that they will add to its functions - I would love to have an editable calendar that I could sync with my partner and my family, and domain emails as well (I have several I use that I personally own that I would love to have Pushed...)

Which browser are you using? It was doing this on Safari 4 - I had to go back to public release (3.1.1) to use MM.

I hope that your guess is right, although personally I'm a bit jaded on it considering I've sent in - and from other discussions I know I'm far from the only one - a suggestion/request or repeatable to-do items ever since iCal was released and every subsequent update.

Here's hoping that MobileMe is more than .Mac... meaning more than just pretty paid packaging around services that are available elsewhere, and better, for free. Aside from the push services available syncing with Apple programs and Outlook (which I admit are significant), I'm not seeing it yet, even in what has been promised.

I have to admit, I'm pretty excited about junk mail filtering being usable via the website though. :D

Just a brief note to say:

Tried for 24h to get into MobileMe but kept getting the invalid username/password error message.

I had tried changing password many times, but always to the same as the original.

Then I changed the password to a new one (i.e. different from previous).

THIS WORKED STRAIGHT AWAY! Thanks to all in this thread who suggested this.

Good Luck!

(Now to bide my time until I try and install the official 2.0 firmware, praying that I didn't mash up the phone with yesterday's unofficial 2.0 firmware! Any suggestions on when to try it?!)
