Thank-you, I didn't think of insuring my MacBook Pro and the iPod Touch that came with it. (Student deal). I just added insurance coverage to my homeowner's policy against accidental damage and theft for all my electronic gear for my home and for my daughter at university up to $5000, for $20 a year. (Liberty Mutual).
You're welcome.

After a friend had all his camera gear stolen from his hotel room in Costa Rica while he was having dinner downstairs, I came to realize that I needed coverage for my gear as well.

Sometimes, your personal items can be covered by your homeowner's policy even if you are away from home. However, they are not covered for accidentak damage and you must pay your homeowner's policy deductible, which for many people is $1,000 or more. That is why I think more people need to be aware that getting a Personal Articles Policy (in addition to or in place of AppleCare) is insurance coverage that you cannot afford to be without.

Cheers

I was down on the Al MacBooks, but after the Nano refresh yesterday I can totally see Apple bringing color back. I would definitely want one, but since I technically do not need one I'd wind up with the previous gen at a nice price.

Then again I don't need a Nano but I definitely have use for an Orange Nano!

I've been predicting 2nd week of October for the couple of months but no one listened. Now it looks like others are getting on the bandwagon. It's not hard to figure out. August/September is all about going back to school promotion and iPods. That leaves October as the most likely month - so that we don't get too far into the holiday season. Since it's been over 6 months since the last upgrade I knew that they couldn't wait until the first of the year at MacWorld. Picking the second week of October was just a hunch. Let's hope I'm right because I could sure use a new laptop. :D

I think most people don't want to be on that bandwagon. We wanted September release ;( I liked the Sept rumors best. Now I like the Oct rumors best, :( hate the November and December ones...

I'm currently on a HP Pav v6000. The last time I used a Mac was in Primary School. I'm 27... I just had this PC returned after 6 weeks at the repair place. A new motherboard was needed... the sound just went after 18 months.

Yea the same happened to me, I have a HP DV6000 and the motherboard gave out, I just sent it in to be fixed, I really hope it doesnt take 6 weeks to be fixed! They told me 7-10 days

This was my last straw for Windows computers, I cannot stand Vista, I would use Linux on my HP more than I would Vista, except for those times when I absolutely needed a Windows application

Cannot wait for the new macbooks, Ill be in line for the new ones right when they come out

Oct notebooks

My guess is that they had/have enough inventory left of the old notebooks that needs to be sold. The student promo was one way to do that and back to school buying should eat into the inventories a bit. October would be enough time to get the holiday mind share.

What's interesting is that the people selling the "NIB" laptops on ebay will probably start to drop those prices as the new ones get closer.

I'm hoping for the 12" MB myself to replace my work Lenovo X41.

The ipod "let's rock event" barely got slightly higher positive votes than negative ones. And the macbooks are getting TRIPLE positive votes!!!!!!
:p:apple:

APPLE GET A CLUE AND GET THESE MACS OUT ALREADY!

Hah, I would have never noticed that. Good point, though.

I think most people don't want to be on that bandwagon. We wanted September release ;( I liked the Sept rumors best. Now I like the Oct rumors best, :( hate the November and December ones...

Or the worst...January!

My wife has just managed to lose my 17"MBP, she left it on the pavement outside a casino! Great. Actually it is as I was going to have one hell of a job persuading her I needed a new one when they were updated anyway and now she hasn't got a leg to stand on. Thanks Love ;)

Divorce is an option...I'm glad I waited on the MB update...Hopefully they don't have this event only to find out they added more colors to the i-Pod Nano...

When I read about the October rumour my first reaction was: Oh no...

Let me explain:

Apple's business model is all about innovation. When I first got the "Apple bug" I was excited by their innovative products. It seems to me, Apple have lost the ability to innovate. Look at the "Let's rock" event. Very disappointing. The iPod nano is an evolutionary step, not a revolutionary one. iTunes 8 is a minor update, nothing too interesting. The rest of the keynote was Steve Jobs presenting old stuff as new and groundbreaking - he's lost the reality distortion field. Yeah, and the Jack Johnson thing wasn't really necessary.

I used to wait for the video to be posted first... Not gonna do that anymore. I'm gonna follow the live ticker. Or just ignore the event and read about it in the paper.

I do not expect Apple to do anything revolutionary and innovative in the future. I have lost faith in their ability to innovate. October 14th is gonna be a let down for many people.

jeez take it easy. Apple events might not be as exciting as in the past but they do their job, it just keeps getting better financially for Apple as a company anyways.

I do though agree that this is the first event where Apple really really were disappointing for me personally, but to say that they have lost their innovation because of a single event like this is a bit harsh.

The recording of this event wasn't exciting at all though, it felt like Steve himself wasn't that enthusiastic.

Hopefully these new notebooks will follow the trend where Apple creates some unique functions for them so they can be told apart from the PC competition besides the OS.

I'm optimistic, I think most of us will be satisfied.

When the announcement to intel occured, I switched my Whole Family to Mac's...bought some macbooks, mac mini, some ipods, and a time machine.

I want to buy a new desktop. I was thinking about a iMac(even though I REALLY want an Xmac) but even the iMac's are getting damn old looking at this point with their little ATI HD2600 cards at this point and I am not going to buy a PC with an ancient video card. Apple needs to get with the program. They should have known that by moving to intel they are going to be under much more scrutiny to keep their hardware specs updated.

I like OSX, but if they can't keep the mac mini and the iMac lines updated in some sort of at least half-way reasonable manner, I am gonna give up and either start building my own or just move to Linux instead.

anyone know where we can resell our macbooks? and around how much would it be for?

i just got mine one month ago:mad:
if the new ones come up, i might sell my current one and get the new ones

What to do? What to do?

Sorry to complain to everyone, but I can’t wait!!!!! I’ve finally scraped together enough money to replace my (yes, wait for it) iBook G3 600 MHz! Finally!! So, I’m now stuck debating if it’s worth waiting for the new MBP to come out with a new design, hopefully a decent graphic card upgrade (graphic design student), a better latch design, etc., or do I wait and buy on Sept. 15 (if there’s no surprise update) and get the Back to School deal with a new iPod to replace my Mini? The only reason I said the 15th is because that’s what an Apple store employee recommended I do. Oh, the exquisite torture! Do I want another month or do I cave in and buy? Any suggestions?

The promotion has been going on for 3 months. I'm certain that Apple doesn't keep 3 months of inventory around. I'm equally certain that they wouldn't hold back new models that were ready, just to sell out their old inventory. If they are not announcing new laptops, it means they aren't ready yet.

You act like it's easy to come up with an innovative new product that also fills a market need. I think even Apple can only do that every few years; in the meantime all I would expect is evolutionary improvements.

You're mad because you bought a Macbook a month ago and now new ones might come out? Whose fault is it that you didn't research it? A month ago the press and all the rumor sites were buzzing about potential new Macbooks.

If you absolutely have to buy now then do it - you'll still get a great system. But if you are able to put it off then I think you should wait.

Well I'm disagree with you, but maybe we are so spoiled we don't see it anymore.

The MBA was and is innovative. That lot's of people have a wrong judgment about the MBA or simple dislike the device doesn't say it isn't innovative. It is and once again Apple sets the trend, in ultra thin and light.

I'm sure Apple will surprise us again somewhere in the future.

Wit kind regards,
Bas

macbook pros - back in black

coming in october for certain.

think iphone w/ a keyboard. silver on the outside, black on the inside.

new monitors, too. think big iphones...

Agreed.

Especially since it also costs Apple money to store all those laptops in a central warehouse until such time as stocks of the current model get "low" enough to justify shipping it.

Could be true -- there's no way to know of course. But, there is a manufacturing pipeline that includes a multi-week shipping process from Asia and we certainly haven't heard of them running out of stock in the last couple of weeks.

In any case, it will be quite interesting to see...

I HAVE TO get a notebook at end of aug since I am going overseas to study. There wasn't any choice for me other then to get it at that time.

That would be a backward-step for Apple. They are way past that. If you want a KB, go Blackberry or Windows Mobile...

sorry, i should clarify. the *look* of the pro is going to look more like the iphone. all glass, smooth front like the iphone. and with a black keyboard like the Air.

the monitors will have the look of the 3G, too. smooth curves.
