Could be true -- there's no way to know of course.

Well here's some evidence from the 1999 MacWorld conference:

"Apple's taken 'Just in time inventory' to a new level - while other PC vendors like Dell have 6-9 days inventory, Apple has it shaved down to 15 hours of inventory, 0.6 days."

That may not be quite the case now, but you can be sure it's not as long as 3 months. Here's a 2007 AppleInsider report in which someone comments that the turnaround rate is 7.3 days, based on 50.8 inventory "turns" during the year:

I am SOOO exited!

Although 14th of october still seems far away, I can live with it. I mean, I have been waiting for this since February due to the rumor about June upgrade. I am fine with my Powerbook untill then, and I am happy I kept using it for so long, but now it really is getting time for a new one.
I am also really curious about the new design. From what I have heard a good part of it is the batary, which would mean longer battery life, and that is pretty nice.
Oh man, I am just really excited about what it is going to look like, I liked the old designs a lot, but Mac has been making very good looking products for a long time, so I trust them.
I am arfraid that the MBP will have the MB keyboard, which I dont like that much, because I dont like the look of individual keys that much, but I will see I guess.
Well anyways, lets hope they stick to the 14th, and that this is a true rumor!

I really need help about what screen I should get!

I will get the new MBP as soon as it comes out. However, I do not know whether I should get the glossy or the matte one (given that there will still be a choice). I have seen the to in a shop, yet I cannot decide? What do you people think is better, why, and what are generally the differences generally, like the pros and cons?

Thanks for any answers, every bit of information helps.

I can tell you that I always preferred matte over glossy and was unhappy over the lack of a choice for the Macbook. However, now that I have the glossy screen I find that I like it. I don't have a problem with glare unless I'm directly under a bright light, which is rare, and even then it's not bad. I don't use it outside in the sun, so I can't say if that would be a problem. But the screen is very clear and sharp - I think it's great.

This is a common question, and lots of people hate people asking it as it comes up so much (similarly to "should i buy now or wait!?") but it's worthwhile. I've loved my matte iMac since I bought it a few years ago, and have been amazed at just how good the screen is. Compared to some glossy screens on windows computers it even has better colour saturation, but the glossy screen on macs is better in that respect. If you know your whole house is full of strong lighting and you'll have a problem with glare then I'd recommend matte. If you're using it in quite a dark room most of the time then almost definitely glossy. If you travel a lot it depends which you prioritise out of having no glare or having a shinier but deeper coloured screen! I'm debating the same question in my head for my next MBP (how nice would a surprise update be on sep 16, btw!) but think I'll go for matte* as glare reaaally drives me mad!

What a long ramble. I think realistically though, you'll be happy with either. Its not like the matte has bad colours or the glossy reflects ridiculous amounts of light! Good luck.

Edited: *matte, not glossy, oops!

The Mac Mini is DEAD. Some of you just don't realize it yet.

It was not a big seller for Apple.

I also predict that Apple will exit the Monitor business.

While I totally welcome the aluminum Macbooks, there's one thing I'll still like my plastic one over the aluminum - stronger wireless signal. My friend's Macbook Pro's and my aluminum iMac suffers from strong wireless signal compared to my Macbook.

Calm. Deep breaths. Release some of that stress.

All Apple employees, regardless of their role in the company - from low-level sales folk to upper management - are sworn to secrecy regarding upcoming products. Beyond that, there are likely virtually no low-level employees who have any measurable "insider knowledge," as these sorts of secrets are part of what makes the Apple mystique what it is. And, should anyone break their oath, they will be fired.

Out of a cannon.

Into the sun.

And you wouldn't want that, now would you?

I'm still going to cross my fingers and pray that new MBs come in the next couple of Tuesdays *crosses everything possible*

Some sites are calling the so-called event 'Let's Macbook', is this a made up event name?

B.R.I.C.K:

Blu Ray Inclusive Computing Kernal.

Or something along those lines. I believe the "BR" of "brick" refers to blu-ray in some sort of way or fashion.

So from this blog, we have October 14th, does anyone know this guy or if he is reliable?

It seems anyone can throw us a Tuesday and we all jump on it and pick it apart until every plausible possibility has been written off for that day.

Yea tell me about it, Im as excited as everyone else to get a new macbook, but when someone says its coming out on this date everyone takes it for a fact, Im learning to be a bit more skeptical

I really hope that BRICK refers to Blue Ray like someone above mentioned! That would be pretty awesome

On another note, Apple mentioned that they were to reduce the profit margins from 35% to 30% and most people are taking this as Apple reducing the price of their laptops, but I have another idea

Could Apple be putting much higher end components in the MB and MBP when they first come out than you will see in Dells, HPs, etc? To me this makes sense because as standard practice for Apple they tend to spread out the updates to the notebooks so eventually the profit margins would work there way back up to 35%

for what's its worth

Today at my university computer store, the manager told me that the Apple rep told him that MacBooks would be refreshed on the 14th of October and that MacBookPros are not ready yet due to a few issues with the new enclosure....

Coming from someone who used to work at BestBuy, and worked in the Apple Shops as an Apple Product Professional, I can tell you that not even district managers in Best Buy (or Apple Reps) know anything about shipments. Take that statement with a grain of salt.

For all we know, Apple could have been working on the next MBP design for a year- trouble with the enclosures seems really sketchy. They probably have a room full of built (new) MBP's running some stress tests, but an enclosure issue would have been detected way before producing. They have teams of excellent engineers working on this stuff....
