I Have Copy And Paste Now!!!!!! Omg Omg Omg :d
J/k! :)

How, Where, How do you use it? Or are you just taking the pi.s, because Apple are unable to provide a function every single other phone released in the world does?

Personally, this update is dissapointing and shows many broken promises. Is this the new Apple? Full of bullsh.t, unable to work out how to perform the most extreem basic functions?? Broken promises, are they turning to lying now because they cannot perform?

As far as I'm concerned we are all still suffering from Apples absolutely stupid selfish and slack actions of not getting full access to codes for 3rd party developers.
I mean really no document management? Not that pathetic code in the OS, you cant even load let alone edit an excel file over 200kb. PDF's dont have bookmarks, word doesn't render correctly for basic formats, of course they knew all this, and were approached by DataViz, but Apple sent them away, only of recent do they have access, so how much longer do we have to wait, OH sorry not wait, I mean STOP ALL MY WORK FUNCTIONS USING A MOBILE DEVICE?
Push Data?? What happened?

Also, how is it that, a more normal battery life, Apps not crashing, etc etc are now called functions by Apple??

Steve Jobs - No wonder your health is in such array, all that guilt must be getting to you. How do you sleep at night? We've done our bit, we gave you the $$$ AND if your Australian or a few other countries, we gave you heaps of $$$$.

Having said all that, I guess Apple are not really a phone company, they make computers and are good at it. This is only their second phone, and it really shows, but I guess their focus and money go more towards their computers AS IT SHOULD I GUESS.

HEY MAYBE APPLE COULD ALSO OUTSOURCE THEIR IPHONE PRODUCTION TO HTC HTC HTC HTC HTC HTC Yeah, then we'll have the best phone around!!

Needless to say, I'm not happy with the hyped up bug fix (but certainly needed)

Anyone have a link for a standalone update download? I'm at work now where I have nice speeds. At home, this could take 8-9 hours to download. I'd really appreciate it.

get over it dude, it's still a sick phone - the best out there.

OMG 46 pages! So, obviously I didn't read all of them, but can someone tell me if the update does any of the important stuff:

1.) Text Messaging
2.) Picture messaging
3.) copy/paste
4.) Flash support
5.) Any other basic stuff that should have been there from day 1

Seriously though, this is not a knock, I'm wondering.

Read the very first post.

As far as I know only smart phones have copy and paste, not every phone. Not all smart phones can do document editing, far from every phone.

Battery Life

Unfortunately my macbook crashed this afternoon and I'm having to repair it, but I did want to check back to report my battery findings:

Currently I'm at below 20% remaining (it just popped up as such):

Time since last full charge
Usage: 6 hrs 11 min
Standby: 8 hrs 14 min

Here's what I have done today:
1.5 hours talk time
2 SMS
Loading of webpages via Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi constantly on
Push 30 min.
3-4 hours iPod w/ Genius and shuffle on

If you do a lot of heavy document editing on the go, it sounds like you need an ultraportable laptop/netbook to me. Whatever you go for, make sure you read the specs so you know it does what you need before you buy it. ;)

To paraphrase Ben Franklin,

"Those who sacrifice stability for extra features deserve neither stability nor extra features."

I don't think anything more needs to be said.

Ok, what am I missing? I have Genius enabled in iTunes, updated to 2.1 and I can't find the Genius icon. Is it because the songs have not been fully synced since the update? iTunes must embed something in the database that has not been transferred yet. I will have to sync all the music when I get home as my library does not reside on my laptop.

Hey James

great CD there-one of my favourites! Great screen shot :)

I agree, this update is a PIECE of CRAP! Of course, it is GREAT that some bugs are fixed, that is EXPECTED! What is also EXPECTED in a software update is a SOFTWARE UPDATE! Again I ask, where is MMS, where is a NATIVE DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT APPLICATION, where is STEREO bluetooth, where is a USEFUL GPS APPLICATION? I guess all of these are trivialities! The jerks at Apple are intentionally jerking ALL OF US AROUND with these BS updates! Where's the friggin' beef! Version I of this phone came out 14 months ago! The phone is SPECTACULAR, yet, it is CERTAINLY lacking some core, easily implemented features!

You're an idiot for buying something you hate so much.

*Nods*

There is a new app coming out in the Apps Store tomorrow. This new app resolves all of the issues that are being complained about in this thread and on this forum. Because Apple could not do it a team of independent developers have rushed this new application out.

The new app is called A Life. If you have ranted and raged on here about the 2.1 update whatever you do, make sure you get A Life at the earliest opportunity.

If you get 2.1 problems..

If you 'mistakenly' upgraded to 2.1 /itunes 8 and find your iphone requiring activation and want to downgrade to 2.0.2, the usual alt+restore in itunes doesn't work. I had all sorts of error 6, error 1604 etc in itunes and caught in a loop of not being able to downgrade or use my iphone.
The solution:
1. Make sure itunes 7.7.1 is in applications (find a online resource hosting old itunes)
2. Log in as a Guest
3. Plug in the iphone
4. Launch itunes (if it doesn't automatically launch)
5. You get a message asking you to upgrade to itunes 8 - DON'T
6. Allow itunes to check for iphone updates
7. You will be asked to download 2.0.2 (not 2.1!)
8. download and install (takes ages but be patient)
9 Once done you can alt+restore with your pwnaged IPSW 2.0.2
10. Phew! Wait for iphone dev team this time.........

It's still September...

Doesn't September have 20 more days, and couldn't another update be coming that fulfill the "broken promises"?

The whining is annoying...keep it in perspective.

iPhone problems vs. living on $1/day in a third world country...

I'll be happy when the new MacBook comes out and I can stop being addicted to these forums.

i noticed on my 1G that when i made a call the new edge icon went away. after hanging up the icon immediately came back up. anyone else notice this? i wonder if this is one of the new power saving features...

I agree, and I am glad that my phone is stable now. :)

-after all, it is a phone, and we depend on it to be stable if we need to make calls if there is ever an emergency. I'd hate to be in an emergency predicament and grab my phone out of my pocket only to find that it is frozen or it says "no service" when there really is service - when I need to make an immediate phone call ! This is why stability comes first - because it is a PHONE! Remember ten years ago when cell phones first came out - a lot of people bought them for security, so that if they ever needed to make an emergency call, they'd be able to. What if someone breaks into your house and you grab your phone and press the "phone" icon and it had been on "contacts" and you have to wait for a 4 second "contacts lag" delay before you can click on "keypad" ?

incase it has not been posted...

repeat text message tone is 5 minutes after original text, and then a further 15 minutes after that.

I hope they develop on this in time, because I struggle to hear my phone if i'm outside or in another room.

but its a good start!

upgraded my 1st ten phone-quick and painless -apps stay in the same place after update!!!!! I'm happy

The firmware size is smaller than 2.02, why? Normally the firmware size will get bigger and bigger ^^

Took 5 minutes to download. Now I am doing my backup. Can't wait for the improvement, if this one will work.

2.02 said will fix such and such. However after using a while, all the buggy things came back. Hope 2.1 will ever fix everything.
