Gah, I updated, Wordpress app still crashed, I restored the phone back to its factory settings and the app still crashes after I try and save my details, anyone else having this problem with wordpress?

actually i had the same problem too. everytime i saved my details it would crash my phone. the worst part was if i tried a restart, i would get stuck on the apple logo. happened EVERYTIME i tried wordpress.

since then i've been scared to try it :p i was going to put it on just now cuz i figured 2.1 would be fine, but after reading your thread, i'm gonna maybe wait :p

Steve, up on stage in front of the entire Macworld crowd in January, did in fact promise us Application Push support in September. If they fail to deliver, it's just one more failure in a long list of failures. Apple's inability to hit promised dates with products that are stable and production ready has been tragic. The fact that it took them 3 months to release this update is testament to this. We all love Apple on this forum, or else we wouldn't be here, but they've really been screwing up lately -- and I feel they owe all 3G owners who purchased a phone pre-2.1 an apology (maybe even iTunes App Store Credit? or another form of compensation?)

Tell ya what you can get compensation as soon as I get compensation for having to wait until your phone came out to have apps. Steve said early June the delayed it to early July. I didn't get compensation you know what I got? Half an iBrick (I say half cause it did eventually work so not a full brick).

Unless you owned a 2G iPhone prior to a 3G I really don't want to hear crap about compensation for something wrong. Its the 3G phones that are distracting Apple from doing things right.

Sorry I'm not going to read 1000+ comments, so what the crap happened to Push Notification??? From what I read at Apple Insider it is NOT in this update still. What's going on?

Apple 2.1 informartion page

I noticed they don't say "stronger/better 3G signal"...they say:

- Improved accuracy of the 3G signal strength display

Not trying to be the master of the obvious, but that is a big distinction. See the entire list according to Apple here:

the only comment you need

everyone has differing reports on this update. i can't tell you exactly why, but my report is actually the most accurate you will read.

1) contacts lag is still there. takes a moment to start scrolling.

2) better EDGE and 3G reception. Used to have to talk outside my house, now I can talk indoors.

3) GPS location is faster

4) verdict still out on battery life. i've browsed and emailed a bit today, and in 7 hours of normal use I am probably at 30%.

see all the time I've saved you? now you don't have to read any more comments.

the location system seems to be able to get a true GPS fix in places where it couldn't before, such as the basement of my house. Before, it couldn't get a GPS fix even on the main floor. Anyone else seeing significant GPS improvements?
YES! In my apartment I was previously only able to get a cellphone tower fix.. now I get a blue pin drop, at the right place. Thanks Apple!

The early 2.1 betas for developers had it, but then it was pulled out by Apple "for further development". My guess is they learned from the MobileMe debacle and decided not to stick to their announced release date at the expense of quality. In other words, it was not ready for prime time yet. No word on when we'll see it. But kudos to Apple for focusing on an update where everything works (at least for me).

Handsfree link in car

not sure if this is part of the update, but didn't notice it before:
when i have my phone linked to my car (Acura DMX) with Bluetooth and try to make a call using my iphone (while parked, of course), it gives me the option to make the call with the phone or handsfree after it dials.

Pretty nice feature for someone who doesn't feel like programming all my contacts into the car's system, which doesn't recognize my voice very well in the first place.

Please report the modem firmware version on first gen. iPhone after the 2.1 upgrade.

Thanks

USA AT&T Service - Non-Hacked - 1st Gen Original iPhone

Model MA712LL
Version 2.1 (5F136)
Modem Firmware 04.05.04_G
Carrier AT&T 2.6 (that looks new, I think it used to say just AT&T)

By the way, I've nearly confirmed there is a serious issue with decreased battery life after this 2.1 upgrade on my iPhone Original 8gig.

Battery is now down to 25% and I've not touched it since about 3 hours ago. Was completely charged this morning and after 2.1 update has benn rapidly falling. This is very very bad.

My update to 2.1 went on 3G steroids!

Have you power cycled recently?

If you haven't tried that. If you have then I would consider taking it to an Apple store.

Also never say you confirmed or almost confirmed when you are only testing on your phone. There are a ton of people with iPhones so yours could be an odd situation.

:D
It just doesn't correspond to the emergency call function on any other mobile, i find it unsafe for all users not being able to block their sim card in reasonnable delays, and whose operators don't insure calls placed after the theft and until the sim deactivation.

Sorry for being surprised, but the "It has always been like this on the Iphone" doesn't seem to be an excuse for me...but that's just me then
Sorry but maybe you do not understand that this iPhone is being released as 1 model all around the world in various markets. Some of those markets will have short form emergency dial numbers while others will not.

Apple has to keep this generic enough to work everywhere. I think you are confusing "emergency" mode which is a sim based feature allowing calls to emergency number while roaming on an unauthorized network or in the case of low signal with the emergency screen on a phone that has been locked.

Well I left 3g on all day and normally i would have a dead battery by 6pm, its 3pm and its still almost full. Works like the iphone should, very nice.

It's frustrating when it was promised now and wasn't even mentioned to be delayed.....if they can't deliver on time that's one thing, but at least be forthcoming about it.

People have to remember, this thing ain't a phone, it's a computer that makes phone calls

Whenever you install new software on your computer, ESPECIALLY an operating system update, restart your machine.

It works wonders!
