MacBook Shipments Have Begun?

What kind of price reductions would I see see in current gen hardware, if the new stuff does indeed come out. Say for a High res 17" macbook pro

I think that depends entirely on the price points of whatever Apple releases. I read somewhere that Apple is rumored to be doing some "aggressive" pricing on this next round of releases. If the new machines come out with new, lower price points, then that will drive down the prices of the previous gen machines moreso than usual.

For the High res 17" MBP, I would guess a $300-400 drop would be pretty reasonable for a like-new machine--and even more if the price points on the new ones are lowered.

I think it's safe to say that we will NOT see a screen under the trackpad glass...Apple is, after all, the company that won't even put a second button on a mouse. Nope. Not gonna happen.
Well Apple did include multi-touch gestures in trackpads. But extending that to a display may be far-fetched.

And a question to everyone: What real benefit is there from a glass multi-touch trackpad (without a display) over a regular multi-touch trackpad? Because if there is none, then that implicitly points to a display or something else special about the glass trackpad.

You are my hero!!! Thanks for all of the info!!!
You're welcome. :)

But in your opinion, do you think Snow Leopard an a fifth of a GHz faster processor is worth it for a student not in college yet? I use my computer for web surfing, word processing, tons of wi-fi, photoshop and after I buy my Mac I would like to learn how to write code and begin developing and web page design on the side.
I don't think waiting until H1 2009 or later is better than buying in September, given that your current computer is "a crappy Windows (powerless Acer Aspire)." The 133 MHz improvement delivers a 5.6% performance increase over a 2.4 GHz CPU, so I doubt you'd be able to notice the difference in most situations. And there's no guarantee that there will be an update then. Snow Leopard helps with multi-core Macs (like the MacBook Pro) and also improves other areas such as stability and GPU acceleration. But that'll be mid-2009 so it's an even bigger wait. Of course there is likely to be other hardware updates along with the 133 MHz bump, but that's expected with every update.

You don't need to play the waiting game, when a new design and new chips are due shortly! :D It'll be a great time to buy soon.

That was exactly the kind of reassurance I have been looking for, lol:D

And the Snow Leopard upgrade is said to possibly only be $79 and if that is true I will probably upgrade.

Quick question: How do you get all this info??? -Thanks

Seth Weintraub suggested the benefit might be "to use the capacitance qualities of glass over the current materials". So greater accuracy, then?

But yeah, if Apple really is going to use glass for the trackpads, then maybe it's to include some low-res display, like I said in an earlier post: something that could supplement or expand the keyboard's functionality. Maybe the keys for iTunes, screen brightness, keyboard backlighting, widgets, etc. could be invoked in that region. That would save a whole row of space on the keyboard, making more room for guts inside or enabling the laptop to shrink in size.

I know I don't have any credibility but I was at the apple store today and they were pushing a cart into store at the Grove. At first I was looking at the printers and underneath they had largish white boxes. I'm 95% sure I saw the new macbook boxes, it didn't look to be tapered and its definitely aluminum. At first I thought they were macbook air superdrives but it definitely said macbook. I would have taken a picture but I didn't realize it until it was too late

Sorry, I know this post is a bit behind.

Just because there's no black keyboard does not mean its fake. Really, if you look closely, the keyboard does not look like the current MBP keyboard. The keys actually look separated. Maybe they'll use the MacBook Air's keyboard in white.

So..the image has been removed from the T-Mobile website. Was it fake or was it the new one? Maybe it was real and Apple asked them to remove it.

Proven fake earlier on this topics and at least two others.

I really really hope you are right. 3 days to find out

Apparently, Apple ship their Macbooks in big brown box to be sure the macbook real box don't get damaged during shipping.

I don't think they would have shipped the Books by the front door. More likely, they would have delivered the packages by the back doors, to be sure nobody see the boxes.

they had 2 carts coming that I saw. The second was in brown boxes but they were bigger than the boxes than I first saw. Looked bigger than the current mbp boxes. The one with macbooks looked like they were loaded on a pallet and unpacked.

I literally got food and sat around the front of the store waiting for it to come in. The store at the grove doesn't have a back entrance since its against the mall's parking lot, they have a loading dock thats down the street. During the iPhone 3g launch they had trucks bringing them in off the street constantly through the front door. The guy behind me got interviewed for attack of the show as being "the last guy in line".

the loading dock for the grove is about where the B is on the map I believe. They were bringing them in through a back hallway between the movie theater and whatever is next to it. I think its cheese cake factory.

Well, if they actually are being delivered to stores, it seems unlikely that they would let them sit around for a couple of weeks, tempting the staff to sneak a pic of them. Sept 23, then?

Let me get this straight. You saw a box that was mostly white or had a white background and a picture on it of some silver-colored product, but not so tapered as a MacBook Air. And it had the word "MacBook" on it?

Does anyone know if there are any large, white product boxes currently in use? I know my MBP came in a box that is mostly black.

Wow!!!

Jeez! You may just have been the first person out of the loop to see the new Macbook! You gotta get the word out!

But I would have gone up the manager and asked him about them ("How much are those") to see the expression on his face!!! lol:p:D

iMacs, Macbook & BlackBook, and a lot more other apple product use white boxes as packaging as far as I know.

Unless Apple have changed it very recently, consumer lines come in white boxes, pro lines come in black boxes. It's been that way since the PPC days.

It literally looked like an oversized white macbook air superdrive box, in fact I thought it was a macbook air drive until I was like why is it so big.

imagine this only with a computer and the size of the laptop boxes. I had to look twice to make sure I wasn't seeing things.

My iMac came in white, my macbook air came in black. There was a picture of another black box further up the page.

Well if Apple have produced a true ultra portable I'm there with bells on. It's taken the patience of a saint for me not to buy an EeePC and turn it into a Hackintosh. I wanna keep my Blackbook for performance only, and an Apple netbook would be lush.

But, as has been mentioned, even fewer people would be buying MBAs.

We'll see. ;)

Does anyone think the new MacBooks could sport some design cues from the new silver and black Nano. I think it would look pretty cool. With black colored features here and there and a slightly curved body?

I'm sure it will. The MBA, and now this new Nano. White on silver just don't look that good after all, just look at the macbook mocks, it look horrible. Nano 2G and 3G were ok, but an computer using this pattern really don't look good. And for the black glass outline for the screen, that would be way too great. Nanoised Macbook FTW.
