I think the mbp will be released with out and event. Since the case is already aluminum. I think the event will be held for macbooks and possibly a mini and maybe something new

Disagreed. The current MacBook had no event and it was a dramatic change from the previous generation which was the iBook.

I also think there's a small possibility of a September 23 MacBook Pro release (per Engadget). If so, then the October event (if there's an event) could be consumer-focused, maybe with this?

"Netbook"??? Surely not. That name defines the device too narrowly. Not a very Apple thing to do.

I also don't quite understand what that screen purports to display. Some internal page at Apple? As if this person hacked into it?

Even though I won't be getting one until January at the earliest, this is good news. I look forward to seeing what they are like.

No events for the new aluminum MacBook. Expect to see the Apple store with the "We'll be right back" yellow sticky note early Tuesday morning, Sept 23rd...

Your own hunch or do you know something we don't? lol

And both notebooks were plastic. But just about everything else changed though. The MacBook Pros could get a change almost as big as that, especially if the display goes to 16:9.

I don't think the picture is real either.

This Tuesday, 830 AM EST :)

Stop it, you're getting my hopes up! :p

And so I'm amending my prediction. Likely chance of an announcement/release of new MacBook Pros on September 23.

No events for the new aluminum MacBook.
Well that's not impossible, but will there be a separate event in October for some new stuff? :D

Count me in the "not wanting to wait until October" group. Nothing would make me happier than to see the new MBs on Tuesday. This will be my first Mac, and the waiting is driving me crazy! Come on Apple! Make it happen!

TBH, I hope they don't hold an event to release them... just want them to release them asap! lol... plus I think the anticipitation of these MBs and MBPs have generated enough interest not to hold an event. ALSO, holding an event releasing new hardware so soon after the Back To School deal ended is kinda wrong to the consumers who have just bought one. Apple should just ease the new hardware into the stores, lol

I am hoping both the MBs and MBPs are released on the same day (September 23rd please :D) So I can make up my mind which one to buy. I will probably end up with a MB for the portability value, but if the MBPs were made lighter I might consider one.

no black keyboard = fake.

screen should look pretty close to that, though.
Sorry, I know this post is a bit behind.

Just because there's no black keyboard does not mean its fake. Really, if you look closely, the keyboard does not look like the current MBP keyboard. The keys actually look separated. Maybe they'll use the MacBook Air's keyboard in white.

So..the image has been removed from the T-Mobile website. Was it fake or was it the new one? Maybe it was real and Apple asked them to remove it.

I am wondering whether the updated aluminum macbooks will have multitouch like the MBPs. I sure hope so

Multi-touch maybe. Glass trackpad maybe not. The statement Seth Weintraub has in his notebook rumor list:

Seth Weintraub said:
Trackpad. I've heard multi-touch glass. But glass's transparancy opens up more options. Will there be a screen under the glass? Will the option to put widgets like the calculator in that screen be given? Or is it just to use the capacitance qualities of glass over the current materials...we'll known a month
...only appears in the MacBook Pro list. :(

I think it's safe to say that we will NOT see a screen under the trackpad glass...Apple is, after all, the company that won't even put a second button on a mouse. Nope. Not gonna happen.

wouldn't it be too expensive to include a 'glass pad'? I can see it being implemented ONLY if they were to use cheap screens for the 'glass pad' with low res, I just don't think they would implement a high res screen for the 'glass pad' as its just too much $$$

Hmm. Now there's an idea. How about a low res display that supplements or replaces some of the keyboard features? So it wouldn't be a screen per se, but an extension of the keyboard. Might make a smaller keyboard possible...and in turn a smaller laptop?

If its possible to wait, do you guys think it would be worth holding off until MWSF and get iLife '09? I have a fear that i will wish that I had waited when I start High School next year and my current computer is a crappy Windows (powerless Acer Aspire). But Sept. 23rd sounds like a great date, but that brings me fear that the next revision after will be at MWSF (four months) seeing as how the lappys are updated every 4-6 months... Anyone got any ideas?

On another note, what specs do you all recommend to get when the Centrino 2 Macbook comes out? I can spend $1200 max and I would like to have some ideas on what neighborhood I'm in...

Also, how long does a OS take to hit the market after it has been seeded? I know Snow Leopard had it's toe pinched a few weeks ago and noone has said anything about when it will hit the market. I'm kinda new to the Mac World and I'm gonna buy my first Mac (Macbook) and I want the full story, lol

Additional ramblings:
What kinda of Nvidia graphics card will there be in the Macbook? Will there be graphics options?
When will Blu-tooth come to the Macbook at least an an option? How will the new screen run Blu-ray?
Will the battery life on this generation of the Macbook be better or worse?
Where do platypuses live?

Depends on:
  • The likelihood of a MWSF release of iLife '09
  • The importance of iLife '09 to you

Montevina Penryn CPUs will get a speed bump by 133 MHz in Q1 2009.

Apple says around June 2009.

What kinda of Nvidia graphics card will there be?
If there's an NVIDIA GPU, then it'll most likely be 9500M/9600M/9650M.

I love the hype on this rumor!!

Tuesday seems soon almost too soon. Especially when they just did an even for ipods. If Apple pulls the trigger tuesday for new macbooks, you best believe i will be first in line!! I want a new macbook so bad. Just give me 2.6 ghz dual core 2, 2 gb ram, 250 gb harddrive and a superdrive for 1300. I dont even care if its black aluminum or plain aluminum.

If there is something you really need to be doing right now on a more powerful computer, then buy sooner than later. Otherwise, it always pays to wait as long as you possibly can. The longer you wait, the greater the jump will be from your previous machine and the more you will appreciate it.

And what is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?

You are my hero!!! Thanks for all of the info!!!
But in your opinion, do you think Snow Leopard an a fifth of a GHz faster processor is worth it for a student not in college yet? I use my computer for web surfing, word processing, tons of wi-fi, photoshop and after I buy my Mac I would like to learn how to write code and begin developing and web page design on the side.

Thanks again!

the airspeed velocity of an unladen European Swallow is 10 meters per second
Oh how I love copy and past and the internet. :D:p;)

I dunno what that statement says (all techie), but it sounds fast!

What kind of price reductions would I see see in current gen hardware, if the new stuff does indeed come out. Say for a High res 17" macbook pro

I too would like to know that! The idea just hit me I could get a prev. Gen. MBP for the price of a macbook! I like how you think!:D

:apple: Power!

Edit: I got the 1000th post... cool!
