THey show up pretty regularly in the US refurb store. My supposition has always been that they wait until the refurb factory has a batch of X units before they add them to the store.

So none showing up for a while might just mean that people hadn't been returning many for a while.

But they don't show up as reguarly in the Aus, German, and other stores...

what about the whole screen being made of glass. There is no frames around the screen. Just a peace of glass. with a black bezel underneath the glass for the border

My First Post

Oh Jeez! I can't wait for these things! I've always wanted an :apple: and i have been waiting forever to buy one and now I have enough cash I'm gonna make this worth it. I start high school next year and I don't think my Acer lappy will last me long enough seeing as how I beat it like a red headed step-child taking it everywhere with me! The abomination finally came crawling back from Acer repair yesterday and I'm giving it a last meal by using it hard one last time before I sell it to my dad (I've sent it back to repair 3 times!)

I am already picturing October... the Saturday after the computer comes out driving to the nearest Apple store or buying my new sidekick over the phone! This will be my baby and she is gonna be the awesomest laptop between me and my friends that are always getting into nerd fights arguing over whose computer is better (We all have the same models and number of viruses on the systems for petes sake!).

Does anyone out there know what updates I should expect besides aluminum and LED screen (graphics, HDD options, blu-ray with withful thinking:rolleyes:, etc)? What options should I get or do you think the MBP will drop to 1200ish in January and I should wait? Will this computer likely suffer the same birth defects as the iPhone 3G (adapter?)? Some insight would be great as how in researching like crazy!

I'm a long time reader (Sarcasm... really only a month or so), first time poster so I'm gonna try to hit the ground running here on MacRumors!

-Thanks Y'all! :apple::apple::apple:

P.S. I'm gonna have a lot of fun with the apple smily!

Hey there, welcome! We can all wish for a cheaper MBP some will argue "its a pro machine! It needs to cost 2,000!" When you can easy get the same specs on a PC for $500 less. "beacuase its an apple" some will say. I say thats BS due to the fact that not everyone can afford it. Apple neds to market to those just like they did with the iphone and ipod touch. CHEEPER!

The question is what to sacrifice. I agree it can be done. But you'll sacrifice resale value of existing equipment (not good for a business) and you'll most certainly sacrifice the "integration" factor that's put in every apple product. They take the time to write and work on every specific driver for every specific new piece of hardware to insure 100% perfection. That's why you buy apple products. Yea, Ok you get some bugs here and there but not like the Acer Laptop video issue where it booted up 3-4x's before it failed due to BIOS issues (you couldn't fix because you couldn't see anything either) or the Dell issue where the failure rate of Sub $800 machines (laptops included) is over 30%.

So yea, they can grab any Asustek laptop, slap an apple logo on it and toss in OS X. But without refinement it's junk like every PC on the market. There's a lot of thought and design that's put into these machines that make them very sought after. There's a reason they cost more, it's because there worth it. Even if you never run the Mac OS there still worth it. The materials fell good, there's a sense of intelligence in the design and the feel of build. If you don't want to spend that much there's a 100 other companies willing to take your money. But you'll never get the same experience.

I never put much thought into it until recently. Never really cared myself. I've used PC's and Mac's for going on 20+ years now. It's not until you move away from one side completely then meet them again that you realize that there truly is a difference. The OS is just the icing that makes it all even better.

For me I'll never buy another PC based machine, the Mac is a perfect PC in itself. And has the best reputation in the industry.

Hey to you too and thanks for the invite! I know the MBP has advantages over the Macbook, but I think that it just comes down to quality. I keep hearing about the MB with problems and the only thing I heard about the MBP are the defective graphics cards. And Apple can't even be directly blamed for that because it was a 3rd party card. A MBP is defiantly out of the picture for me, I got to save for my first car and I'm gonna be set back a little from this:p You got any idea on what the Macbooks will have standard in this revision?

Edit: I found a thread saying that someone at computerworld.com believes that the Macbook will have a Nvidia chipset! He doubts aluminum, but they also said in this thread that aluminum MacBooks were shipping. Are these the new Macbook Pros, to be released at the same time (Article says 10/14 or earlier)?

Like I said in another thread, it sound to me, from his description, that the MacBook is going to resemble the iMac and the new silver nanos.

The MBP would look great with machined aluminum keys.

Steve jobs promised that all plastic computers would be replaced with Aluminium by the end of the year so I think it's a safe bet to think that the upcoming Macbooks will be aluminium

You're a mean man :)

The abomination finally came crawling back from Acer repair yesterday and I'm giving it a last meal by using it hard one last time before I sell it to my dad (I've sent it back to repair 3 times!)

All I gotta ask is, "What have you got against your dad?" :D

Welcome - I'm sure you'll enjoy the new Mac. I, too, am looking at getting an MBP and passing this 1-year old MB to my daughter at uni.

You could say that the Macbook Air, also could have acted as a test for Apple, so that they could see how that type of notebook enclosure used in the Air would hold up, therefore indicating whether that type of enclosure and its materials are suitable to use throughout the new macbook range. Its been rumoured that the new macbooks are to have the same type of aluminium casing as the Air. I’m pretty certain the new macbook range will be a fatter version of the Air with a few cosmetics difference to distinguish itself from the Air, but maintaining the black keyboard and the LED display.

Totally agreed.

So then I guess the question is whether or not the MacBooks will be anodized to make them different colors and therefore distinguish them from the Pro and Air lines.

The 1280x800 screen certainly distinguishes the current one from the Pro. The screen is a nice size, but that 800 pixel height is quite limiting.

As for the Air... I can't see what the appeal is if the MB goes aluminum and sheds some ounces. In fact, I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out why the Air costs so incredibly much. I'd love to not have an optical drive, but it seems a bit odd to pay more just for the privilege of not having it.

Here are the links to the predictions made at computerworld.com (the same person that predicted the new iPods at 9 to 5 Mac:

Macbook Pro:

And for those intrested, the MB Air:

The one interesting thing is Apple moving to 16:9 ratio displays. Sooner or later they will have to.

Is everyone still sticking to the Oct 14th for the launch date?
I am. I also see an event on that date (especially if there's a new product), but I'm not putting all my eggs in that basket. I'm also sticking to the redesign and aluminum MacBook rumors, and I also think the MacBook will have large swaths of black like the iMac.

I also think there's a small possibility of a September 23 MacBook Pro release (per Engadget). If so, then the October event (if there's an event) could be consumer-focused, maybe with this?

macbook event

I think the mbp will be released with out and event. Since the case is already aluminum. I think the event will be held for macbooks and possibly a mini and maybe something new
