I said I'd not be that interested if it was just a big iPhone / iPod Touch.

But gah, I want one. Brushes is one of my favourite apps, and it looks great on the iPad (love that it was called that too, not the 'Slate').

I might wait for a second rev or 128GB version though.

I'm kind of wondering how will a projector attach for running Keynote presentations though? (edit: Phil just said there'd be a cable, ok)

When the Mac mini came out, I immediately turned to my wife and said "I have to have one."

When the MacBooks came out, I immediately turned to my wife and said "I have to have one."

When the iPhone came out, I immediately turned to my wife and said "I have to have one."

When the iPad came out, I immediately turned to my wife and said, "Um... wanna get a Kindle?"

I love you. :)

Seriously? What makes this any better than carrying round a MacBook or Air? You'll still need to put it in a bag...with a damn good case to stop that screen getting killed...and you won't have access to ALL of your files.

Tablet was never a win IMO

couldn't agree more. plus a laptop has a camera for video conferencing.

I agree. People are complaining, and yet this is what a table computer does. I think people are more disappointed that Apple's not reinventing something so much as simply taking an existing idea and making it really, really nice. Shut up and stop whining.

I'm not saying I'm going to buy it; I have no use for it, and it does look like an oversize Touch - but what did you expect? Tablet computer w/ a touchscreen = an oversized Touch. You can't separate them. And yeah, the name is dumb, but so is iPhone.. How many complained about that when it was released that have one now and love it? It's what Apple does.

I think it is more because it is a failure. It is nothing more than a large iPod touch.... It is not going to touch the existing tablet market. The iPhone OS is just way to weak to do that. No multi tasking is sad.
Sorry but this is another Apple TV all over again. Apple TV was a piece of crap and so is the tablet.

Netbooks are a dead end. That's why I'm sitting here in a parking lot following the announcement on my netbook, suddenly very happy I didn't wait for Apple's attempt to fill the niche.

Yep - got mine docked to a monitor and wireless keyboard, streaming, watching the blogs, comment boards and Twitter, after taking it into work with me and being productive. £220 from our friends at Dell. Netbooks are SO over.

LMAO @ the Apple cult members who are declaring This will be HUGE! and It will SELL LIKE HOTCAKES! Lol

Did I miss them announcing the price points???

Because knowing Apple, this thing will cost EASILY $500 neighborhood... In which case it WILL NOT sell like hotcakes.

The Kindle sells like hotcakes because it's affordable and does only one task, and does it well.

This is not a Kindle. It's a giant iPod Touch and it WILL not cost the same as a Kindle.

There's nothing at all wrong with a gigantic iPod touch. For whatever reason though, most people were expecting it to be more than a gigantic iPod touch. I blame the blogs for creating unnecessary hype.

Blame apple. When you shroud something in secrecy like they did it besssst be goood. The hype machine wont just die.

Same old ipod interface and design. No updated look or anything. Not looking good for the iPhone.

Niche device

As a general consumer electronics device - I am not sure how succesful this is going to be. However, I could see this being useful in doctor's offices, hospitals, certain sales situations, art applications, and maybe college text books. I can not imagine anyone actually carrying this beast around in public. Either something is really mobile or it is not. Apple tried to squeeze into the middle of truly mobile devices and laptops. I am so shocked at Apple for not considering the ergonomic angle. They are all about that these days. I, for one, am hugely disappointed in this device.

I haven't posted in an age as I have grown tired of the apple hype machine and am more often disappointed than not. I love OSX and my macbook pro. I love the imac and think the iphone is great.

So today there was so much coverage that I have succumbed and am following this event. I have a modern life and am joe average and yet I can think of no reason I would want this device: it is too large to be portable and too low powered to replace or supliement my home use of a macbook pro.

Maybe if I work as a salesman then this would be good. Many apps could be developed to compliment my job, but that is very niche. Perhaps as a train commuter's mobile entertainment, but almost certainly too expensive for that.

Yawn: Apple need to stop doing this as they will eventually become the boy who cried wolf amongst the media.

What kind of Application are them doctors going to use? Something they find on the App-store?

This is not a business-device!

Not a business device? You have little faith. Doctors can remote monitor critical patients from this device, as they could from the iPhone, but this does it allot better. We can start brewing beer right from this device (we could do it from the iPhone, but it had a too small screen to be practical), so monitoring production processes is a given with this device. Stock taking and order processes etc etc.

Oh and reviewing daily cash sheets from sales will be great. Can do it on the iPhone as well but painful to be scrolling so much. This will be great for that.

Having said all the above, I am also disappointed that it did not blow my mind!
