Normal people: "I bigger iPod touch? Cool!"

Online message-board people: "A bigger iPod touch! Steve sucks!"

Good thing there are more normal people walking into Apple stores these days than message-board people.

Keynote would be much more useful if there was some way of getting video out...

Most posters here don't like the iPad?

HOW SHOCKING! I can't believe it!

Seriously, what's wrong with a big iPod Touch? The future for this (if there is one) is eBooks/magazines/news papers. It remains to be seen if there is a market for this, but what I can tell you is that right now it is too soon to tell.

It's the same "experts" who predicted the failure of the iPhone and Touch. Never did Apple claim they were producing a netbook or mini-laptop. This is all about content delivery, and now with a little creation thrown in with iWork.

This will be extremely popular once people see it live. 90% of consumers use their computers to surf/play music/movies/game. This does it well, cheap and with long battery life.

Whipping up a Keynote preso on a feather-light, 10-hour-battery-life finger-driven tablet? Hells yeah!

So far it's an epic fail for me, it looks like they've thought about it from the perspective of making money from the user. Not even considered what the user might want, is apple becoming Microsoft? Honestly this is by far one of the worst products I've ever seen Apple release. It's a non multi tasking giant iPod Touch

Utter junk
Exactly my thoughts as well.

The power to control what you're allowed to run on your iPhone has gone to their heads. Soon they'll release a Macbook that can only run things from the Apple store where they only get 30%.

Hopefully they'll adjust and recover. The success of the iPhone and app store has gone to their heads. Maybe the iPhone was the one hit.

This thing is on the road to iAwesome.

Now if this meeting goes on another hour about lots more stuff, it will be the promised Pad.

Netbooks are a dead end. That's why I'm sitting here in a parking lot following the announcement on my netbook, suddenly very happy I didn't wait for Apple's attempt to fill the niche.

Why is this such a huge disappointment for everyone? Everything from an iPhone, PLUS iWork, PLUS ebooks, all in a beautiful package with a huge screen...I don't understand you people.

Did I miss the part where you can make calls, send and receive txt messages and take pictures and movies?

armh is going up i'm happy :)

And AAPL down. Surprised they didn't halt AAPL for this.

If you really think this will bomb, arbitrage it. Apple is already committed to build a bunch. ARMH will get the royalty income from the initial bunch whether it's a long-term success or not. ARMH excitement might be over-done, as they will just get royalties on it, since it's AAPL's chip which presumably they have contracted with somebody other than ARMH to produce. So, I'd get out of the arb before too long.

Yeah it's cool! But it will live or die by the price! At a grand I think it'll kinda be a niche device! So hopefully they price this thing right! $599-$799!!

Reading any serious book on this device should be as uncomfortable as on any e-book reader available today, or possibly worse.

Actual book vs. e-book is totally different from MP3 vs. CD or those other arguments. Unlike when you listen to MP3 files, you can't fool yourself into thinking that you are doing fine since it's actual physical discomfort instead of some subtle quality drop.

iWork was all I needed to hear to get this!!
Being able to make and edit keynote presentations and edit docs on the go is all I wanted out of this device and they are giving it to me. As long as it's 799 or under, I'll be first in line :)

Seriously? What makes this any better than carrying round a MacBook or Air? You'll still need to put it in a bag...with a damn good case to stop that screen getting killed...and you won't have access to ALL of your files.

Tablet was never a win IMO

This thing is awesome, and the keynote isn't even over yet! Why is this such a huge disappointment for everyone? Everything from an iPhone, PLUS iWork, PLUS ebooks, all in a beautiful package with a huge screen...I don't understand you people.

This is MacRumors.

If you take away the spoiled moaning, whining, bitching, the forums would be empty.

Is this the same iWork as on Macs? The box looks like iWork 09. I guess they are not releasing iWork 10 (X) yet.

EDIT: To clarify, I did not mean to say it is exactly like the current iWork.
