PAYG iPhone3G for you fella. Unless you're 18 before 11 July! Alternatively, you could get a parent to get the contract in their name. They could hand it over to you when you reach legal age. I'm fairly certain this is OK to do.

Yeah i imagine this is what will happen, one of my rents will go in buy the phone and have the contract in their name, except i'll have the phone:D
I'm definitely not doing PAYG.

I found some interesting price info while looking at 3g iphone o2 business contract rates. The business plans seem to be broken down into voice and the data bit and there is something called an "iphone bolt on" which gives you data, wifi and visual voice mail ontop of the normal voice plan, it is priced at £8.51 which plus vat comes to a nice round £10 per month, my guess is that this is what o2 would offer PAYG users coming out of their credit in the way that normal o2 web bolt on of £7.50 is applied to PAYG .

The business tarrifs pdf is here:

http://www.o2.co.uk/assets/O2HybridNav/Static-files/images/iphone2/O2BbusinessTariffs.pdf

Anyway I don't expect we have much longer to wait till we find out from o2.

Regards
Richard

Not sure about that to be honest. The PAYG and business tariffs are aimed at two very different markets.

Incidentally I had a look at the business plans myself, wondering whether it might be an economical way of running two or more iPhones within a family, a U.S. style 'family plan' if you like. The results were surprisingly expensive, far less value for money than having several normal contracts.

Like you I am looking at all the options re a 'Family' plan. I am currently with vodafone which has a 'Family' option. I am on a Blackberry contract the rest of my family are on PAYG and for a small add on fee we all get free mobile to mobile calls to each other. The net result is minimal charges on the PAYG as most phone calls are to each other.

O2 do not seem to have an equivalent so I am left feeling that any switch over to an iPhone whatever the tariff is going to be in the long run an expensive option ! Do not get me wrong I was with O2 for many years before switching over to Vodafone (who's customer service is a lot worse) and now I face switching back if I want to try the iPhone which I do !!!!

Yes they do. O2 to O2 calls are free on some of their PAYG, Simplicity and contract tariffs.

Of course PAYG and Business contract tarriffs are completely different animals, but if you look at the regular non iphone business tarrif the web bolt on is £7.50 which is the same as the non iphone PAYG web bolt on, so I think the iphone bolt on in the business plan of £10 is a good clue as to where the PAYG iphone bolt on will be set.

You could well be right about that. I just wish O2 would get a move on and announce the PAYG handset price and the tariifs too.

that would be very reasonable if the £10 includes wifi and cell data as the £7.50 pay and go data bolt on doesn't include email or wifi (which is £3.99 a month for ipod touches on cloud).

Yep, in fact I can get unlimited calls and texts to anyone on O2 on my Pay & Go thingy if I change tariff and top-up £15 a month, not bad me thinks!

I bet that O2 were waiting to find out how many people would sign up for more information about Pay & Go before setting the actual price. Well now they know roughly how many people are interested there's no longer any excuse for O2 not to tell us ;)

Someone elsewhere claims that O2 have decided on £259 (which happens to be the same as the old £269 contract phone price if there's a mandatory £10 topup when a phone is purchased), but I'll believe that figure when I see it since so many other people claim that the Pay & Go price will be somewhere between £300 and £400.

Let's hope that O2 will pleasantly surprise us :)

I hope it is £269, I hope everyone else is wrong, I am not paying any stupid price for the phone!

Full of 'maybe', 'guess' and 'assume' but here goes...

Simplicity tariff : Unlimited Data + 600 mins + 1000 texts = £25/month
iPhone 3G : Unlimited Data + 600 mins + 500 texts = £35/month

Ok, so ignoring the fact that both tariffs have a different idea of 'Unlimited data' and the iPhone has a few extras like visual voicemail and the wi-fi hotspots. For the sake of this comparison lets say assume thats why the iPhone has 500 less inclusive texts.

So lets guess that's £10 a month going towards the cost of the phone. Over 18 months that's obviously £180 bringing the full cost of the phone to £279/£339 for the two models. That's exactly £10 more than the current price of the first generation iPhone. So I doubt they could justify up to £400 for a pay and go iPhone.

£15 top-up for 200 texts and £20 top-up for 400 texts both with unlimited data would fit in with the contract tariffs maybe?

i dont see why they are waiting so long to announce the PAYG iPhone tariff... its not fair they keep us in suspense..

soon o2 PAYG iPhones will be flooding the world including eBay... wait and see... they will be jailbreaking and unlocking going on like nobodys business and sooner or later believe me apple will get sick and tired and fed up of people unlocking it (the majority of market) and will realize it WILL BENEFIT THEM AND MAKE STEVE RICHER if they release it unlocked. I just dont see why they dont understand why Apple dont get it: if they release the phone as a proper sim free handset it everybody would buy it...

i swear o2 are so annoying why cant they just anounce the prices already atleast then people know how much its gunna cost

It is extremely irritating for those who are waiting.

They must know the pricing structure by now, so what is going on?

Perhaps they want to spring it on us at the last minute for some reason....

Or perhaps they really are dithering and just don't know where to pitch it so as to achieve a good take-up without impacting too much on contract sales.

I've just thought of another possible reason why O2 may be delaying the announcement of the iPhone 3G's Pay & Go price and it may not be good news for people expecting something that's affordable. If the iPhone 3G is going to cost more than £300 then it may put a fair number of people off buying one, but if O2 delay the announcement of the price for as long as possible then some of the disappointed people might inevitably end up thinking: "It may be on the expensive side but I've waited a long time for this phone so I'll just buy one anyway".

Unfortunately that could just be the case :(

hey guys, theres a website selling preorders for the 3g iphone for £159 unlocked, i gave them a call and its is all true and official, the warrnty is intact as well and you pay via paypal, i have already preordered myself a nice white 16gb. have a look:):):) the special offer ends in 2 days.

Just read an interesting article that speculates that the Iphone pay you go option will be somewhere btw the £350 price range.
http://www.phonesreview.co.uk/2008/...taff-unfamiliar-plus-payg-iphones-around-350/

The article also states that the Apple retail shops in the UK will most likely sell the iphones in their shops.

I traced the origins of this £350 price which seems to be taken as read by MacRumors and in the article it says:

Operator changes system of buying device to stop box breakers...

O2 is taking precautions against box breaking on the 3G iPhone after the original version was exploited by box breakers.

The operator has changed the system of buying the device; customers now leave stores connected to O2, whereas before they could connect at home.

It is also understood that O2 will set a high prepay price of around £350 to help guard against the problem.

Jonathan Earle, head of acquisitions for consumer postpay at O2, said: ‘We will price it as competitively as we can without it becoming an opportunity for box breakers.’

Here's the article:
http://www.mobiletoday.co.uk/O2_takes_box_breaking_precautions_on_3G_iPhone.html?terms=%c2%a3350+iphone&fragment=&SearchType=&terms=%C2%A3350%20iphone

I don't understand, however, what the price has to do with box breakers, by which I assume they mean people who 'jailbreak' their phone. Now I understand that they need to insure themselves against losing money, but that doesn't seem to be what they are saying.

As far as 'box breakers' go, I would have thought the lower the price the more goodwill people would show to O2 and hence be willing to sign up with them. Also, the majority of people will assume that going with another service provider will mean they don't get all the functions of the iPhone - this is something that I haven't got a grip on yet myself (i.e. why people give themselves a headache by choosing a sometimes not cheaper alternative to O2).

Because they are already in a contract with another phone company?

Why on earth and how on earth could or are they doing this? I always subscribe to the golden rule that if something looks too good to be true then it usually is.

You are a braver man/woman than me mmoosa, and although the website looks too well polished to be a scam, I can't see how this would work. Are you forever beholden to Ohmac for jailbreaking fees such as the £39- they charge for unlocking iPhones. And if the iPhone can only be sold by the Carphone Warhouse, O2 and Apple have these phones fallen off the back of a lorry?

i dont know where they getting them from but they have offices etc, they have got to be quite good scam artists then, but its via paypal and my credit insurance will pay if they dont send me my fone, i spoke to them so only time will tell.
