Anyway he said if i take a new number i get 6months free data as long as i topup by 10pound a month. This will of course take over from the 300free texts offer some people avail of. Looking forward to making my new baby payg on friday without having to unlock her :D xxx:apple:;)

So they said that its an iPhone PAYG SIM and you will lose your 300 free txt if you want the £10pm data?

According to the o2 website:

We want to make sure you find a good home for your old iPhone once you upgrade. If you've a friend, colleague or family member they can use it as a phone by choosing any of the three options below.

  1. If they're on an existing O2 18-month minimum term contract, they can just transfer onto a Pay Monthly tariff for iPhone*. The end date of their contract will stay the same. Once their tariff has been transferred, they just need to connect to iTunes to activate the iPhone.

  • If they're an O2 business customers, they'll need to move onto a current business tariff with an iPhone Bolt On and will be able to keep their existing contract term*. Once their tariff has been transferred, they just need to connect to iTunes to activate the iPhone. To arrange this they'll need to contact Business Customer Services.

  • Existing O2 Pay & Go customers can use their current O2 Pay & Go SIM card or new customers can join O2 by getting a free Pay & Go iPhone SIM card from an O2 store. Then add the unlimited Web and Wi-Fi iPhone Bolt On (£10 a month). The only thing that does not work with this option is the Visual Voicemail.
im loving the sound of this!!:D

well..APPARENTLY...once u put the £10 into the phone u automatically get the free data and ur stil left with £10 to spend as u want (however that could be wrong) The o2 manager told me that this would more than likely take over from the 300 free texts thing in a iphone paygsim! however it wud stil be possible to use that 10er for a 7.50bolt on to get 300msgs? i think it shud? xx

have to agree and I am trying to find some more info out such as

can you use EDGE and what about your 300 txt will you lose them or will it be like the £7.50 PAYG so called Web Bolt on. You pay your £10 or what ever top up, they take £7.50 from you leaving you with £2.50 but you will have your 300 txt...

Also do you get proper web access and not the current £7.50 web access thats being offered to for PAYG costumers which is some web sites and o2 active and i-mode.

also, when can we start to use this new service

Can live with that..

So I wonder if on Friday there will be a new section for people to subscribe to this new iPhone service.. Makes you wonder why they could not do this for the iphone 3G

I went into my local O2 store today and they didn't know anything about this. They didn't have any sim cards, even the regular non-iPhone ones, and made out as if I had made a mistake and directed me back to the website.

Brilliant! My first ever dealings with O2 have been terrible! It's such a shame the only way to get an iPhone is to sign-up to these incompetent good-for-nothings!

and so it starts again..

EDIT:

I emailed O2 customer care about what was on the website about using an old iphone with a PAYG. Such as will you have access to EDGE in an EDGE enabled area, will the web access be better than the current web bolt on (o2 active & i-mode) and what will I need to do to subscribe to this service.. This is what I got back

"Many thanks for your email about using an O2 Pay & Go SIM Card in an original iPhone.

While you will probably be able to connect to the main services of calling, receiving calls and send text messages etc, we couldn't guarantee you'll be able to use the full internet services it has.

To able to use all the the fantastic features on the iPhone you need to use Mobile Web. Unfortunately, Mobile Web is only available to o2 customers with a Pay Monthly tariffs"

----------------------

What the point on someone posting info on the o2 web site and the not telling customer care teams about this bloody info. So when people like me email them all they do is feed back *****...

I went into my local O2 store on Briggate Street in Leeds today and wa speaking to a rather friendly member of staff, I asked about whether it will be available on Friday, and he said no, I'd have to look into it around November/Christmas time.... :/

is this post still running?

Later in the Year.....how long will this post run for until xmas when the PAYG is released?

if you bother to read some of the last post then you will see that we are on about O2 PAYG sims being used in the original iPhone and not a 3G iPhone

My friend is giving me his iphone and i want it payg...so iv been in my local 02 shop every week pestering them for answers as how and when i'll get a iphone sim!... today they finally had an answer for me. when i get my iphone on friday i am to bring in the phone and i will get the iphone sim (which is in their shop at the minute) It will be different from other sims as it wil have the iphone features on it [whatever that means] Anyway he said if i take a new number i get 6months free data as long as i topup by 10pound a month. It's so easy to unlock it and get yourself some value for money.

my problem is not the unlocking side of things, it would be nice to have a decent data plan which is what O2 seem to be offering current PAYG users if they get an original iPhone

As an experiment I just tried this. iPhone upgraded to 2.0b8 with itunes 7.7pre (current as of a couple of weeks ago IIRC) and an O2 Pay & Go SIM.

What you end up with is "The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be a supported O2 SIM card" and it won't activate.

It's possible this is added later of course. The wording above though suggests a standard Pay and Go SIM should work...

im surprised visual voicemail wont work. why cant they just give us visual voicemail on PAYG? how much harm would it do?

PayG on an iphone 2G works now.. that's what I've done with my old one.

The web+wifi bolt-on is also now avaiable.

Me too - activated and all.

Do you think the free data use for six months just happens, or will the bolt on be neccesary? My old iphone has got a hugely smashed screen, but it would be nice to think I could give it to someone who can live with that...

edit... you are not subscribed to a cellular data service...

OK, my iPhone O2 UK PAYG Web and Wi-Fi bolt-on has just been activated. Got sent a text confirming it.

The default iPhone "mobile" APN doesn't work.

I've changed it to the "payandgo" APN, as per O2's help site and now have cellular data working.

However I'm not getting EDGE, even though I have reception where I'm currently located.

According to O2's terms and conditions I should be getting EDGE:
"The O2 Web and Wi-Fi Bolt On allows you unlimited use of O2 UK's Edge, GPRS, 3G and HSDPA networks, The Cloud's UK Wireless LAN network and the BT Openzone UK Wireless LAN network".

However, I think I'm still waiting for my PAYG SIM to be updated with "iPhone services", so hopefully that's the problem. It better be  ;)

Edit: sending email doesn't work, bollocks.
Edit2: web browsing away from o2.co.uk isn't working properly either. Probably the proxy setting issue cropping up.
I really hope this gets sorted when O2 update my SIM. Or I'm cancelling this. I suppose that's the beauty of PAYG, no contract so you can leave if you don't like it
Edit3 (sorry): I'm now getting EDGE reception, but web browsing is still locked-down. Some apps work though, like NetNewsWire.

Have you filled in the "Add iphone services form" on the o2 help site?
https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=29&q1=25, I think this has just appeared today as I can't remember seeing it there yesterday.

It works but NOT with the version of 2.0 from Thursday - only the one you get through iTunes.

I got EDGE!! Fill in the "Add iPhone services" form on 02, wait 24 hours and change your APN to payandgo.02.co.uk - u don't even need the bolt-on!

Great stuff! And you can ponder the meaning of life while you wait for pages to load ;)
