'06 - '07 NHL Season

Looks like my teams are doing all right for themselves so far. Detroit's still up there (like always) and the Devils have clinched themselves a spot as well. But what really surprises me is that for the first time ever, my home team (though I'm not a fan) Atlanta is going to the playoffs.
 
As we head into the playoffs, I just want to thank the one who had the biggest effect on the Canucks this year ... Mike Keenan.
 
Well, Don, the Isles aren't dead yet. All they need is a Toronto victory over Montreal tonight and then to knock off the Devils tomorrow. No small task, but everything else they've needed to have happen over the last couple of days has fallen into place.

I must say that I'd really like to see the Isles make the playoffs...an opening round between the Sabres and Ted Nolan's Islanders would be fitting. That, and we're sick of playing the Canadiens and Leafs. ;)

And the Sabres clinched the Presidents' Trophy with their victory today. At worst they'll tie the Red Wings in points, but hold the tiebreaker with more wins.

I'm still shocked that the Islanders have done this. If tt all works out tonight with the Leafs beating the Habs, I'm going to Jersey tomorrow!!!

We match up well with your Sabres, WC. (With the exception of that 3/30 game) If we do make it, I don't expect to get past you guys but it will make for a hopefully entertaining series.

Congrats on winning the President's Trophy. Some people think there's a curse with that. We'll see what happens.

One series I'm really looking forward to is the Pens/Senators series. It's going to be crazy.

Calgary blew their chance to get to 100 points, thus having everybody in the Western Conference playoffs have a min of a 100 to qualify.

I'll be off to my friend's house a little later to watch the Habs v Leafs game (NHL Center Ice is goooooooood)
 
I'm also rooting for the Leafs, but they're trailing now...why'd you have to speak up?! :p Looks like that shot differential is swinging back in the other direction this period.
 
I have a feeling the flames are gonna choke tonight.

2004 playoffs were great, but since then they've done an excellent job of choking when it counts :(

It's a beautiful day right now in Australia, and here I am, the only Leafs fan for probably quite some distance, sitting in his room and waiting for my Yahoo Sports game summary to update every 2 minutes. GET A WIN, LEAFS!
 
So it's up to the Islanders...if they beat the Devils tomorrow, they're in. If they lose (in regulation or OT), the Leafs are in.

That was one of the best games I've ever seen (regardless of outcome). The bar went absolutely crazy everytime the Leafs scored.

May the Hockey Gods continue to shine upon the Islanders!
 
Ahh, gotta love perspective.

Local radio points out "this is the 2nd time in 3 seasons the Canucks has captured the division title"

The All Leafs All The Time network (aka CBC) says "This is the first time since 2004 the Canucks have made it to the playoffs"
 
Duff-Man says...The Vancouver Canucks are in, and whether the Leafs make it in or not is not so important - they knocks the arrogant Habs out and that is what counts...oh yeah!
 
well the flames are in the playoffs, but not by their own accords. I turned the game on and their leading 2-0 against the oilers, and yet they still manage to drop the ball.

Lousy flames, I predict another 1st round elimination.

I felt the same thing in the final month last year -- it was a race for who could back out of the playoffs faster, Edmonton or Vancouver. Apparently Vancouver won that race. Vancouver deserved that <ahem> "win".

So don't write the Flames off yet! They'll make it to the conference finals, and lose a great series to the Canucks ;)

Its only fair -- the finals move farther west each year. 2 seasons ago, Calgary gets to the finals, last year, Edmonton makes it, this year its Vancouver's turn and they'll get it right :D

We were in the process of moving to a new place that night, had moved the TV, and lawn chairs in, figured we would watch the game until 9:30 then head back to the old place to sleep.

I remember making an emergency run to the safeway on the 2nd overtime to get my family something to eat before we starved to death :)

That was a great series! Minny 2nd round and Flames for the conference final would be a perfect run of payback :p

Yeah I remember me and my buddy watched the first period of the game, then we went out for like an hour 1/2 to a beer bash at school, we were just gonna stop at my place and have 1 more beer before heading out to the bar, we ended up missing the bar completely the night because of the game
 
Wow...Islanders had a 2-0 lead with five minutes to go, but the Devils came back, with the tying goal coming with one second left on the clock.

Headed to OT...
 
Get ready for a Giddy Don Ditty in a little bit...Islanders win in a shootout. Teddy Nolan and Miro Satan are headed back to Buffalo.

We'll hope to give them a rude homecoming...sorry, Don. ;)

We mobbed each other in the stands it was absolutely crazy!!! I had heart failure after that 2nd Devils goal.

I'm still in shock, I can't believe it that they did it.

As for facing your Sabres WC, I don't care. I know we're not going anywhere.

The Isles made their point. They defied the odds. This team was picked to finish dead last in the NHL and now they are going to the playoffs.

LET'S GO ISLANDERS!!!!!!!!!!!
