That Devil and Islander game was definitely entertaining to watch. I am not a fan of either team (Ranger fan here, go ahead and kill me), but I really enjoyed watching that game considering how important it was. In games like that, where I do not like either team, I just hope for a good, close, intense game and thats what eventually happened. Too bad it had to end with a shoot out. As entertaining as those are to watch, and I love the no tie rule, it is definitely not the best way to finish a game in my opinion. They spend 65 minutes playing hard hockey, and then it comes down to three shots. Entertaining, but I think it would be more fair to have sudden death, and not just five minutes...That's just another thing that makes the playoffs more intense.

well the capitals sucked again this season, even with semin coming in... not sure what the key is. need some good veterans surrounding the young guns

but hey, at least i dominated the fantasy league. ;)

Well, the playoffs are underway. Ottawa cruised to victory over the Pens today, while the Sharks look to have Nashville under control.

I predict that the Sharks will cruise in that series, and that the Penguins will win a close one over the Senators.

Late games just about to get underway...

Here are my predictions:

Eastern:
BUF/NYI = BUF in 5 (Gotta be a realist here)
NJD/TB = NJD in 7
ATL/NYR = ATL in 7
PIT/OTT = PIT in 7 (That's if they don't get beat like the did tonight)

Western:
DET/CGY = DET in 7 (Should be an interesting series)
ANA/MIN = ANA in 6
VAN/DAL = VAN in 6
NSH/SJ = SJ in 7

I may have spoken too soon. Radulov just had a beautiful goal to bring Nashville within a goal with six minutes to go.

Edit: Tie game with 50 seconds to go. The Sharks just couldn't clear the zone...looked a couple of times like they were trying to make a pass or line up a shot to go for the empty net rather than just banking it down the ice. They paid dearly.

Looks like I'm the only one watching tonight's games...

Sharks and Predators headed to a second overtime period. Some great saves at both ends of the ice keeping things going.

I'm flipping back and forth between that and the Canucks-Stars game. Tough to turn away from an OT game though.

Damn, I'm really hoping for a Vancouver/Calgary match up later in the play offs now. These OT games are GREAT.

Luongo didn't just get his first overtime game tonight, he's got his first two!

So far he's faced 65 shots. Hopefully we can put to rest the "question" if he can handle the pressure of the playoffs?

Right now Kessler is just amazing me. The guy hasn't played since January, here we are 120 minutes in and he's still going!

Yes!

Henrik scores 148 minutes into the game!

I lost count, but I think Luongo faced nearly 80 shots, whereas Turco had a paltry 60 sent towards him.

I went to bed last night expecting that game would finally put to rest two things:

1. The "question" if Luongo could handle the pressure of the playoffs.

2. The impression that the Sedins weren't strong enough to keep up when it came to playoff time.

But I should have known better -- I wake up this morning and the CBC and TSN headlines are all about the Ottawa vs. Sidney, obviously the most exciting game that was played last night

I'll bet they went to bed before the 3rd period was even over

That's our great country -- from the Rocky Mountains to the rocky shores of Newfoundland

Damn your right, I just checked CBC.ca and the quadruple overtime game seems to be missing. That's uber lame

Oh my god...

I was going to make a joke earlier about the fact that the Globe (Canada's "National" newspaper) had missed its daily article about why the Leafs missed the playoffs, but decided it was a cheap shot, that now that the playoffs were on they would get talking about real sports news again.

Well guess what ... today's installment is "What if the Leafs had got Luongo"

So this is something like 5 articles analyzing what went wrong with the Leafs, and they have yet to publish a single analysis of what went right for the Canucks.

[Edit]

I was mad just at the concept of article, reading it, well that's just over the top:

Alain Vigneault is considered a strong candidate for the Jack Adams Trophy as the league's top coach. He got lucky. He got Luongo

Words fail me.

The Sedins having career seasons and emerging as dominant players? Tyler Pyatt almost doubling his career best goals? Kevin Bieksa emerging as a top 4 defenceman out of nowhere? An ability to juggle lines to turn a team's fortunes that almost borders on psychic?

No, doesn't matter he got lucky. And if the Leafs hadn't been so unlucky, it would be them not the Canucks.

Absolutely amazing games last night, with the exception of the Pens/Sens game which was over early.

Isles v Sabres should be interesting as long as the Isles that put together an amazing week show up, otherwise this game could be done in the 1st period.

Dubie! Dubie! Dubie!

Let's Go Islanders!

2-0 for Detroit after 9 minutes of play.

Yeah, I'm gonna throw my support behind Vancouver for round two, since the Flames don't look like their gonna be there.

*EDIT*

Screw the flames, go Canucks!

Is Yahoo Sports correct...the Islanders managed one shot on goal in the entire first period?!

Don, it's time for you to lace up your skates and get out on the ice.

I was doing an essay last night so I couldn't watch the Vancouver game (my girlfriend said it wasn't on tv? ) but I kept looking at the scores online and went to bed after the first OT.

I woke up this morning and DAMN it went till near 1am.... And to top it off I missed the highlights since I was out all day....seriously...weakness.

I was stoked to see the Wild lose (screw their ugly jerseys) and cowtown is losing tonight so huzzah!

The Isles made history.... lowest shot total in a period in playoff history.

Anyways yea, we've been having difficultly getting set up or getting some odd man rushes, otherwise I'm pretty happy in the fact we've been keeping you guys in check.

I was expecting to be down at least 3-0 at the end of 1.

EDIT: You were saying? 1-1 Asham, from Blake and Robitaille
EDITx2: 2-1 Buffalo. Drury from Campbell and Zubris on the PP. Thanks to Witt taking a Delay of Game penalty.

EDITx3: 4-1 Buffalo, Final. I thought the Islanders played pretty well (though the score doesn't indicate that), they kept it close for 2 periods. Buffalo's got a good (understatement) team, I hope the Isles can rebound and take something away from this game.

NJD beat TB 5-3, NYR beat ATL 4-3, DET beat CGY 4-1

2-0 for Detroit after 9 minutes of play.

What happened? I didn't see the game, tuned in to see Detroit with a 3 -0 lead too early, then saw the 4th goal which (from my albeit distracted) point of view didn't look very good on the Flames.

Kipper can still catch fire -- I'll hold out hope for a Canucks / Flames conference final.

Pitt with a 3 goal outburst in the 3rd to win the game 4-3 over the Sens.

Rangers over Thrashers 2-1.

NJD and TB tied 1-1, mid 2nd

NYI is leading BUF 2-1, end of 1st :D

With no Avs to root for, I'm still trying to figure out who to follow this postseason. Given that Forsberg is still going, I guess I'm a Predators 'fan' for a while. Feels strange not having a team to pull for.

TB leading NJD 3-2 half way thru the 3rd

Isles leading BUF 2-1, end of 2nd :D

EDIT:

TB over NJD 3-2

ISLES OVER BUF 3-2!!!! DP is back! The Isles played great tonight, now to take it back home. I'll be at Game 3!
