Downloaded and updated, don't see anything different but the camera does seem a little better as reported. This update is surprising in that Apple doesn't clearly state what changes come with it, so it must be just simple bug fixes like most users here are reporting.

Maybe it is support for the SDK but if that were the case I would imagine Apple being more vocal about it and letting us know that it's there.

That Starbucks closing today thing is interesting and might have to do something with the update but I'm not counting on it.

3G now supported

Oh my God, I just updated my iPhone and I now have support for AT&T's 3G network.

And it now supports Flash.....oh wait, that's not my iPhone I'm using. Sorry about that.

VPN support hasn't been enhanced though has it? Cisco VPN is my no.1 desire for the iPhone, if that's been added I'm heading home right away!

Well, I don't know, since my iPod Touch had NO VPN support at all before, and now it does. I"m happy :)

This will be a big deal for many iPod Touch owners, and should be included in the list of changes on the front page.

Glad that Apple released this update, there might not be many flashy features (pun intended) but it shows they're hard at work on the OS and it's stability. Which is something that form using my 1.1.2 phone I feel is needed.

Don't get the fuss over MMS, it's never been implemented properly with carriers handling however they please. Also be a little forward thinking, in two years tops internet pocket devices will be all over the place. Most people will be checking their e-mail on the go.

I Noticed Certain Small New Features But I Am Not Sure If These Are New In Safari When U Click On On The Little Book On The Bottom U Can Now Edit And Move Around Your History And Bookmarks In The Settings Of The Phone In The Mail Setting In The Advanced Of A Specific Mailbox You Can Choose Where Your Drafts/sent Mail/ Deleted Mail Etc Go Either On The Server Or On The Iphone In Youtube There Is Now A Feautre That Shows "more" Again I Am Not Sure If These Were On The Iphone Before Todays Update

still buggy...

French and UK Yahoo! news web pages still don't display properly.
I am now able to change the time zone again (broken under 1.1.3 for me) but it does not change the time accordingly.

Google: indexing Flash since 2004

http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/2004/09/07/google-can-now-index-flash-an-interview-with-michael-marshall

I'd rather not have the ability to slow down a mobile device with 15 flash adverts thank you.

Never mind the proprietary piece of crap that is WMV.

You've got it totally wrong.

The web is about information dissemination. Plain text search. Flash sites aren't even searchable with Google, because they're so messed up with their own eliteness. Flash is a good tool for certain uses, but as a technology to do entire websites, oh dear lord, NO.

HTML, CSS, etc, are simple. If you can't do it, go and train in another industry. You'll never understand back-end systems, databases, security, etc. Most websites don't even need to worry about HTML, they're template based at some level, your article is stored in the database, possibly not even as HTML but as Wiki, or another style of markup. And that's what the web is about, it isn't about flashiness, it's about content.

However you might get part of your wish if SVG gets popular as a standards-based medium, and it is integrated well with websites.

You can't change around the history items. But everything else you said was their already on 1.1.3.

i dont see why so many people like to bash Flash. the coolest and most inspiring websites i have seen are almost always flash. have you ever seen www.thefwa.com? building a whole site in flash is so terrible huh? and you're wrong when you say flash isn't searchable in google. anyone who knows anything about actionscript knows that that gripe is an obsolete one. if someone knows their actionscript there is no limit as to what they can do. flash has so many uses aside from online and is by far more conducive to creativity and thinking outside the proverbial box than designing an concepting soley for html.

I read 10 pages of this discussion board before my update was ready and I read people saying that the camera was better.

I took my phone out and snapped a couple of pictures and then updated my phone. After the update, I took the exact same photos and I can say that there is a noticeable difference!:)

Awesome, I will definitely start using the camera feature more often now. Hopefully a video function is right around the corner as well, that is what I am really looking forward to.

if you don't mind, could you please post these pics of the before and after shots.. i can;t notice any difference on mine. Just wondering if its my untrained eye or if there actually is a noticeable difference..

It's not that they bash Flash. They're just countering the arguments that people are making which is basically bashing Apple for not including Flash which they conclude as "the standard."

Why bash flash?

Because the Iphone does not support flash in the browser. Mac users always say something is bad until they have it, then it is the best thing, like Intel processors, terrible when PowerPC, then amazing, everything is so much better with Intel...................

I am a Mac user and it sucks that Iphone does not support flash and have GPS and 3G!

I have the ATT Tilt until they do!

Yes it is thanks for asking - that website, although good by all-flash website standards, could still be done better without flash imho. Front page is quite nice - but I don't see how flash makes it better - just makes it slower, with a less readable text and things that zoom around to annoy you.

There's this one group I love in the portfolio let me give a link.. oh! wait a minute! I can't link to specific parts of a flash site because flash is unintuitive like that. Never mind. I won't link to their site, and their site won't earn money from ads.

Well I didn't know that.

Still doesn't change the fact that people use Flash and glitz to cover over a lack of decent interesting content.

I just don't see the point in bypassing HTML, etc, which all web browsers support, and implementing something in Flash that many people block, and whole sections on the internet can't view. I can understand using it for certain things where it is very smart, interactive graphs, games, product stuff. Imagine the BBC News website written in flash though.

Designers think Flash is the be all and end all though, and they will never get why some people hate it.

Well obviously it sucks until good ole' Steve says it doesn't. The current item is flash. The last one was real apps on the iPhone. Remember when SJ said everything will done through web widgets? That same defenders said that was fine too and now we (supposedly) have an SDK on the way. But the Apple brand is like a religion and just like religion people tend to defend it even when it doesn't make any logical sense.

If someone cant set-up an email account then they shouldn't have an iPhone, serious.

No if someone can't set-up an email account then the phone companies should do it for you - give you a free email account (like apple) but set it up 'preinstalled' onto the phone. The answer to 'complicated' computer things isn't to shut most people out of them - its to make them easier to use.

What's the point of the website? I can't see. It looks like a links page that looks vaguely "cool". The text at the top is too small and pale against the background, and a lot of the text is too small. I'd rate it "average" in terms of web design. That's when I'm not getting the "loading" animation because each page takes so long to load, and then it slows down the rest of the computer once its loaded. Actually flicking through it, I'd put it down to "poor".

Isn't Actionscript just extended ECMAScript, i.e., extended Javascript? I don't do Flash, if you hadn't guessed. I've seen so many abuses of Flash, and so many glitzy, but rubbish websites done in it, that I think that people lose their focus when they're using it for purposes for which it isn't best suited for. Including the website you link to as an example of good Flash use! Thinking outside the proverbial box is great if you end up with something good. Sadly, it looks like arty toss to me.

And since when is Actionscript the reason that Google can search things? I'm sure that Google had to write custom code to tear apart the flash files to analyse the text portions. Can Google link directly to a page hidden deep within a Flash website?
