I had a bit of trouble with the update. after the updated completed, itunes said no iphone was recognized and that I needed to restore the iphone.

I unplugged and replugged the iphone and a screen popped up saying that my iphone needed to be activated(no service from att). about 5 seconds later, it told me it was activated and att service resumed.

iphone was recognized and I didn't need to restore. everything is workign fine now. Just wondering if anyone else experience anything like that?

by the way, I haven't noticed anything different.

wrong!

I used the web extensively on the iphone today and it crashed twice.

I had this same experience. After updating, my phone restarted and didn't get any service. I then proceeded to perform a hard reset on my phone. When it came back, it gave me the Plug Into iTunes screen. I did so, and then I got the iPhone is Not Activated screen. After a few seconds it said iPhone is Activated and everything is fine.

The same thing happened to me. I got a bit scared.
same here. What made matters worse is I updated the phone before heading to class. when the no service text came up, I said to myself, "great, I'll be without phone service for the rest of the day"

I guess it's part of the update process.

They like to brag they are providing the 'real' internet on the iphone, but they are not.

You are confusing 'real' with 'entire'.

'Real' means you are not limited to mobile web sites.

'Entire' would mean it supports all technologies.

Nowhere does Apple say they support all web technologies/formats.

This was expected. It was a little ridiculous to think that over one night, every Starbucks in the entire country was suddenly going to adopt an iPhone ordering program with no notice and only 3 hours of training. I can definitely see the iPhone ordering system coming to Starbucks, I just think it will be announced and slowly integrated in the way that iTunes WiFi and Starbucks was. Hopefully we do eventually see it because it would be a nice feature.

For the love of God, that iPhone ordering picture was a mockup done by some guy not affiliated with Apple or Starbucks.

It's like those mockups of the "iPhone nano". It means nothing. it is not a leaked screenshot or concept art by Apple's design team. It's a nice idea, but that's all it is. Sheesh.

Oh, and don't get your hopes up about a Flash plugin being written with the SDK. Not only is it very hard to do (flash is massive, and has no public API*), but there's a snowball's chance in hell that Apple would include MobileSafari plugins in the SDK. They don't want to break the "device" idea by allowing potentially poorly-written plugins messing up such a core feature of the phone. Native apps is going to be as good as it gets.

Luckily, we already know about the MobileSafari plugin API, because we have a download file plugin written for jailbroken phones. If anyone was planning to write a flash plugin, they would have started by now. They wouldn't be waiting for the SDK.

*for those of you who don't know what an API is, you can think of it as a language to talk to a piece of software. An interface with known commands. Not having a public API means we don't know the commands. It's like trying to speak a foreign language with no training or phrase book or anything. You have to try and decipher what people mean and build up an idea of what you think the language means. The best analogy is deciphering heiroglyphics using the Rosetta Stone.

For the first update ever, I also got the "plug into iTunes" warning -- and to cure it I had to unplug and re-connect the cable to my iPhone.

Once I did that the activation continued.

Weird - because that hasn't happened in any of the other updates.

Seems there are more reports of minor problems with the update completing (error messages) than I've read in the past.

I am also sick and tired of reading rants about Flash. Isn't there a nice thread all those posters could be pointed to where they could entertain each other for the rest of the year?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419.3)

Safari runs ALOT better!

Safari doesn't crash now.
I've updated my iPod touch to 1.1.4 and Safari still crashes. When I open some tabs (three or more) all of them but the tab where I am switch blank, and they have to be reloaded.

Whyyyyyyyy??? :(

good1

The Safari Bug - Where when you have multiple pages open, the others you're not looking at go to a white screen, seems to have been fixed.... I'm testing it a little more now, but so far so good.

now thats what iv been waiting for... Loading the pages again felt frustrati g and just plain stupid!!
so 1 good thing comes out
m gona hold out untill u can unlock this thing!!
;)

Mine updated ok but I can't really see anything new, but mail crashed twice on sending which I don't think has happened to me before.

Coincidence?

hmm iphone software update and all starbuck's closing today at 530pm local time...coincidence?

Right after I completed the installation, it stopped raining! I love you, Steve Jobs!!!

Hey but safari seems snappier! But seriously the camera is definitely smoother which is a big thing in my eyes but I want a sdk :D

Well if SDK does go live today it would be around 5-9pm launch time (GMT). :)
Cheers to hoping! It's either today, tommorow, or Friday.... unless it's delayed but I would say not.

The 2nd new feature I found is that now if in the preffs you have double tap the iphone button to go to ipod controlls on, when the phone screen goes to sleep and then wakes to have the slide to unlock screen, you can now double tap the button to display ipod controls while the phone is locked. Very cool when i have the phone in my pocket on teh way to work and i just want to skip a song, i dont need to unlock now.

This was available in 1.1.3. Not new.

I would of said its been delayed but then 1.1.4 was released so I think it will be released, heres hoping today :D

I just installed 1.1.4 and can't say that I notice any difference. This seems like the usual perceived improvement after a restart.

As for reception, it read 4 bars before, and 3 bars after.
Im not looking for a "perceived" improvement im asking for some one to install sysinfo and see if the cpu clock was speed up like the 1.1.2 updated did (from 400 to 412)

Power???

My phone died overnight, which has never happened before. Anyone noticed any less battery life?

Sysinfo reports that CPU Frequency is still 412 MHz.

The iphone-dev team's toolchain is NOT the baseline they'll be writing to either. It's basic gnu vs bsd all over again :)

I don't think any of the big vendors (Apple, Adobe) would write *any* plugin on anything *but* the iPhone SDK.

No doubt they have it, NDAs and all, and no doubt they couldn't release anything until the SDK is released even if they wanted to.

Just my .0002 space credits. :)

After reading through this thread, I have to wonder how many people didn't realize all the features of 1.1.3 and even before that. Everyone that keeps mentioning "new" things just to be reminded that feature has been there. If anything, sounds like the update only made people realize what they have had all along. haha
